Powerpoint presentation by TM

The McCann case just never fails to throw up new questions, even after six years. I came across this one: A powerpoint presentation to inform the PJ of sightings of suspicious individuals, complete with illustrations.
My imagination simply can't cope with this. Interestingly this is October 2007, when all hands are on deck to save the sinking ship. But a Powerpoint Presentation? Save my soul!
Whose bright idea was that? It's not a business trying to sell a product. Or is it?
Of course I knew about the Cooper sighting but not about the Powerpoint. When exactly did Clarrie do his very amateurish Powerpoint presentation about the Perfect Publicity Campaign?

The sketch of creepy man striding along is a straight copy from an old photograph of Hewlett, in fact creepy man was made to look like Hewlett. In the frame that early? iirc he'd already been checked out by the PJ.
So September back from Portugal, October the creepy man is launched and played for all he's worth (those police artists don't come cheap!) turned into a dramatic powerpoint ending with a pious wish and an 'action plan'. An action plan? I can't copy each sheet as they work like photographs and I'm very bad at doing it, but the whole thing has the feel of an A-level project or a small business selling their product.

One amusing point for me is that Gail Cooper who noticed and described this creepy stranger is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Imo the creepy stranger might have thought much the same thing about the observant Ms. Cooper.

Gerry really wanted control of the police investigation - did he really think the PJ would drop everything and concentrate on his powerpoint presentation? How bizarre. Interesting too, that he didn't bother with the Smith family sighting.

Bizarre! the very word that describes it. Thanks Christobel and Cherry Blossom. I'm not clear on the exact dates all these things took place, The Creepy man made his appearance in the press rather earlier than January 08. October 07 I think. It's also not clear when the powerpoint was made.
When the sketches were made is not clearly states either, except that they were done on 'different occasions'. It can be seen that a photograph must have been the inspiration, next question is - where did that photograph come from?

GM is a control freak, I'm sure he thought if the PJ concentrated on the Powerpoint Presentaion eveything eles would be blown out of the window. The Smiths sighting must realy be a thorn in his side, but that's something he can't control, it's out there along with all his mendacious statements.

I'm just going through it - all part of getting the good ship TM back under control imo. Very helpful lady Mrs. C..... another one whose memory improves dramatically with time thinking

But where did they get that photograph of Hewlett and when exactly were those 'different occasions' (in October 07) when Jane Tanner sat with the Police artist and where exactly did these meetings take place?
In short, who in the first place thought it was a good idea to do a sketch of creepy man based on a photograph of Hewlett? Who exactly produced that particular photograph? The only thing missing is Mrs. C. pointing at the photograph: 'It's him! It's him! I did not see him once, nay! I did not see him twice, but thrice!' Falls on floor in dead faint... all assembled stare at each other with a wild surmise....'We must tell the PJ without delay! Well, it's running up to Christmas - within a couple of months anyway. Tell you what, we'll do a Powerpoint Presentation!'

I was having a re-read of Gerry's blogs, days 1-50, and he refers to a police press conference where a photofit of Jane Tanner's eggman was released. Does anyone remember the PJ holding such a press conference?

McCannfiles: Artist's impression released on the 25th October.
(doesn't mention press conference - I don't think there was one, do the PJ do press conferences?)
What I do remember is that the release of this image was forced on the PJ and by Gordon Brown iirc.

'They have also released a sketch of an eyewitness who saw a man carrying a small child away from near the apartment on the night Madeleine disappeared. We believe this child was Madeleine. The Portuguese police have released the description of the man previously: he is 35-40 years old, approximately 5ft 8in - 5ft 10in (1.72-1.78m), Caucasian with southern European/Mediterranean appearance, slim build with dark hair.'

At some point, probably in September or October, Brian Kennedy, the McCanns’ financial backer and double glazing magnate, and the person who was in effective overall control of the McCanns’ private intelligence operations (see separate article on our website), arranged for a Gail Cooper, who had stayed at the Ocean Club in April 2007, to meet Melissa Little, BSc. (Hons), PS, FBI Diploma.

Melissa Little was said to be a top ex-FBI ‘forensic artist’. Gail Cooper claimed to have seen a suspicious-looking man in Praia da Luz, apparently collecting for a local children’s homes charity, whilst on holiday. Melissa Little helped Gail Cooper to come up with an artists’ sketch of the man she had seen. This resulted in the well-known sketch of ‘Monster Man’, or ‘George Harrison man’, because he was said to look like George Harrison, one of the Beatles. He had a long pointy face, moustache, and long hair at the back of his head, but no glasses. Because the alleged sighting was by Gail Cooper, he was also known by some as ‘Cooperman’. The McCann team greeted this news by suggesting that ‘Monster Man’ was ‘a person of interest’ rather than necessarily being the abductor they were looking for.

On 22 October 2007 (folio 3905),DrGerald McCann e-mailed Bob Small of Leicestershire Police with two additional sketches [middle and right below], both prepared by Melissa Little, one of which (‘the second sketch’)became known as ‘bundleman’. The first sketch is similar to ‘bundleman’, but it is in black and white and has a nose (‘noseman’).

So it looks as if the top ex-FBI forensic artist was hired by TM or BK in some way or other. Otherwise her sketches would not need to sent to the Leicester police. That's a fair amount of trouble to go to if you think he's only a person 'of interest'.
At this time it would seem that the McCanns had access to some of the PJ files, at least the first statement of Mrs. Cooper from May. I would expect them to have accessed this via the Leicester Police in some way.
The point here is however, that the Melissa Little illustrations do not seem to have an official status.

Many thanks Tigger. It is certainly disingenuous, as it gives the impression that the artist's impression comes from the PJ and not Team McCann.

Thank you CB. I just looked at both the links. Considering that such apartments are prime targets for burglars, also that several burglaries had taken place just before the arrival of the McCann group, I'd think that was an opportunist burglar. Mrs Fenn surprised a burglar just a few weeks earlier.
I did read once that the newly arrived guess had been warned about these burglaries - making it even more unbelievable that children were left alone in the dark with unlocked doors.
Imo that bit of information has been whooshed - possibly by the extremely helpful MW/OC. Nannies shipped off, etc.

The information from the helpful Mrs. Cooper should not have come from the official files. They only went to court in June/July of 08 to demand access to the Leicester Police files.
They were granted 81 files by the judge - imo that officially that should be the first time they'd have access to the statement made by Mrs. C.
I don't know if there is a list of the 81 files released to the McCanns.

tigger, I've not found a list of files, this artical states they were given access to 20,000 pages. What amazes me is Leicestershire Police had given them names of 81 witnesses which they had on file!

The McCanns had made clear that they wanted access to the police files to follow up any new leads. Last week they increased their team of investigators and also the names of 81 witnesses that Leicestershire police had on file.
A year and two months after Madeleine disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, detectives failed to establish a credible theory about what happened and have dropped the case.
The McCanns can still appeal the police's decision to drop the case, although this is unlikely to happen

Hello CB. It's to do with the timing. I'm talking about the Powerpoint being in the PJ's possession by January 08. They didn't go to court until June/July of that year to demand files from the Leicester Police. I don't know which files they are or whether they only contained information on witnesses.

But the 20.000 pages or so are an early release of the PJ files to the McCanns- they knew as early as April/May that these would be released and clearly action had to be taken - they may still have thought they'd not be read by the general public.

So it's clear that they had access to witness statements in October 07, which they used to produce a Powerpoint Presentation and sent it on to the PJ in January, it having passed through the Leicester Police first.
May/June 08 they know the PJ is going to publish their files.
June/July they take the Leicester Police to court to obtain their files, this is unsuccessful - only 81 files are released by order of Justice Hodge.

As Tasprin said in another topic, they may never have dreamt that the PJ files would be released. I'm sure that must have been a shock.

Thanks tigger, I take your point now, sometimes I find it so confusing, but then that's what they set out to do causing a tangled web.

I'm sure when they got the files they thought they were for their eyes only + lawyers, shock and disbelief when they were put out into the public domain. No where to hide except behind their own lies

KM's book is mentioned this is the page refered to

p. 226

The McCanns ’phoned Bob Small of Leicestershire Police. Dr Kate: “…he was perplexed at the apparent fixation of the PJ on the idea that Madeleine had died in the apartment. He told Gerry he thought they’d get a shock when the forensic results came back”.

Dr Kate: “The next day, Gerry rang Ken Jones, Head of the Association of Chief Police Officers. He, too, was beginning to despair of the investigation and the way it was being handled…Carlos Pinto de Abreu advised us to sue Tal e Qual. We did begin proceedings, but shortly afterwards, the paper went bust…”

Paedophiles who were 'ordinary' people

Hundreds of suspected child sex offenders in the UK and as far afield as Venezuela have been identified in a police investigation sparked by the chance discovery of a sickening e-mail.

Already five paedophiles have admitted a total of 77 offences, including rape of a child, distributing indecent images of children and incitement to kidnap.

They include a man who arranged a rendezvous with two other people where a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were abused in a six-hour orgy.

Another masqueraded as a woman on the internet and had a "shopping list" of child abuse which he asked others to carry out.

Kent Police's Operation Starlight has now seen four of the five jailed for their crimes, with the final one due to be sentenced next month.

The detective who led the investigation said none of the offenders had any previous convictions, their family and friends had no idea what was going on, and they were all "people you wouldn't glance at twice in the street".

Following their convictions, details of the main offenders in the shocking paedophile network can be revealed.

Collusion may indeed be an apt word. In the case of Operation Starlight for example, 'collusion' amongst the 'group' of offenders certainly seemed to one of the main driving forces behind the network. They all shared the same common interests and naturally, to avoid detection and possible arrest, it was clearly in each of the offender's best interest to 'look out for one another' in the group.

Just to bump this up the sheer Chutzpah of TM cannot be underestimated.

The Powerpoint was apparently prepared in October, in November BK was in Portugal and mid November there was the Rothley Meeting, busy days and it would still take till August 08 before they were off the hook.

Smoke and Mirrors all the way, but I see no sign of the Smiths so far. Creepy men aplenty though.
