Re: Honeymoon Murder: Husband Shrien Dewani Is Arrested
Honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani has been extradited from the UK to South Africa, Scotland Yard has said.
Mr Dewani, 34, is accused of ordering the murder of his new wife, 28-year-old Anni, who was shot in Cape Town in November 2010. He denies murder.
The Bristol businessman has been fighting against extradition for three years but lost his latest appeal.
Mr Dewani is expected to appear at Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.

As far as I'm aware, there are no direct flights from Bristol to Cape Town and I'm wondering if SA sent a plane for him?

There are direct flights.
P.S. Apparently he went on a private jet though.

I wonder whether he was cuffed or chained up when escorted on the flight ?
It's common to see prisoners chained or cuffed for treatment in hospital or attending family funeral.
In some US states criminals in custody appear for their trials in Courts are chained or cuffed.
There is no uniformity of law from state to state, rather bizarre system in the Land of Free.

Good Grief, potential criminal given A-star treatment!
This is to avoid him embarrassment or safety for other passengers ?
Can't see how he can be considered at flight risk so closely guarded (escorted in fact) or how he can endanger anyone.

I think you'll find there are no direct flights from Bristol to Cape Town, NFWTD, as that airport's SA bound carriers are KLM whose flights first stop in Amsterdam and Lufthansa which has stops in Frankfurt and Jo'Burg. No Fate Worse Than De'Ath wrote:http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/South-Africa/Bristol

As far as I'm aware, South African Airways no longer flies into/out of Heathrow and only British Airways offers direct flights from Heathrow to Cape Town - although possibly Virgin covers the route too.
In any event, it sounds as Dewani has either arrived or will be arriving in Cape Town as expected, which fact alone will no doubt be a relief to Anni's family.

If he's not fit within 18 months, he'll be returned to Britain?
I wonder if that means he'll never face a trial.

I have a feeling the plane journey will have done Dewani the world of good and, after a few months in a S,A psychiatric facility, he'll be certified fit to stand trial, NFWTD.

I would anticipate a trial date being set in the next 6 months or so - he owes it to himself and to his own and Anni's family to give his account in a court of law.

Sounds like a deal has been struck for his extradition, with conditions attached to it, and should SA breaches any of them, he will be flown home.

aiyoyo. I don't understand why our government would strike a deal with SA,surly Shrien Dewani is of no importance to the uk government. The case made the headlines because a beautiful couple went on honeymoon and the new bride was killed due to a car jacking"apparently"i would much rather go with UT, and hope in 6 months time he will be fit and well to stand trial? if it turns out you are correct then i shall be selling up and leaving what will have become of a cesspit, corrupt once great country.

Not a deal to get him off . But a deal to protect his citizen right to ensure his basic human rights is respected within UK acceptable standards. Something that every UK citizen is within his right to expect of its government; to protect them within limits of UK law.
If a person is arrested and charged while in a foreign country then it is straight forward.
Where extradition is involved it is no longer as straight forward, that's just the way of the law.
Before releasing its citizens it is incumbent upon the government to ensure its citizens are protected against sub-standards system or kangaroo courts. Not saying any of those applies to SA, just that every country judiciary system varies one from another, and the variance can be hugh. If SA system has capital punishment or flogging for example the UK government can refuse to release its citizen to face punishments outside of UK standards, so a release would be conditional upon terms of exclusion of those type of punishments. Just an example of why when it comes to extradition there will be terms involved.
His lawyer would have negotiated terms on his behalf taking also into account his psychiatrist reports and other medial reports, subject to evaluation and approval by the government for incorporation when setting extradition terms.

The witnesses are performing very badly.

He wont be able to say if he was paid to do the shooting, but no idea where this leaves things.

Re: Honeymoon Murder: Husband Shrien Dewani Is Arrested
In pretty much every case, the defence will file a motion to have all the charges dismissed, regardless of how well or badly the prosecution presented its case.
this is just a routine motion and will likely be denied.

Where Dewani case is concerned, from what I read, the prosecution case is near collapse so maybe under this circumstance there's a fair chance the case will be dismissed.
We'll wait and see what pans out.
