If a high speed railway is considered to be a BJ jolly folly, howz about his hair-brain scheme for a must have bridge connecting Scotland to Northern Ireland - or the other way round, depending on the starting point.

Is Scotland/Ireland Ireland/Scotland a popular commute I ask myself i don\'t know ?  Enough to warrant petty cash stolen from the public coffers?

Johnson's 'bonkers' plan for £15bn bridge derided by engineers

Experts says PM’s proposal for bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland fraught with problems

Engineering experts have poured cold water over Boris Johnson’s “bonkers” plan to build a bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland for £15bn.

The prime minister – who first touted the idea of the 20-mile-plus bridge last year – put a price on his proposal for the first time last week, saying it would “only” cost the multibillion pound sum.

But experts have said that, while it might technically be possible to construct the bridge connecting Scotland’s mainland with the outskirts of Belfast, it is potentially fraught with problems and the costs could spiral.

One eminent engineer, who was behind London’s Millennium bridge, told the Guardian it was “bonkers” to put a price on the plan before a proper design was in place. Another engineering academic labelled the proposal “dubious economics”.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/sep/15/boris-johnson-bonkers-plan-for-15bn-pound-bridge-derided-by-engineers

....................

It's no use to me - I didn't ask for it!  Let's have another referendum, by the time anything happens the idea will be abolished.

I'm in agreement with David Dimbleby's view - Boris Johnson is power crazy since his victorious win at the last election.  Even if Dimbleby has got a bee in his bowler about the threatened demise of the BBC, his opinion about Johnson is spot on.

How long will he last?

PRESS RELEASE

16 January 2020

All Labour leadership candidates sign up to MCB’s ten key pledges

The Muslim Council of Britain welcomes firm commitments from all five Labour leadership hopefuls to support the MCB’s ten key pledges to build a better Britain.

These pledges, released during the General Election for all political parties and prospective parliamentary candidates to sign up to, include tackling Islamophobia and all forms of racism, defending religious liberty, proactively engaging with British Muslim communities and providing funding and support to places of worship to safeguard visitors, among others. The commitments were developed following surveying its affiliates and amongst Muslim communities.

Rebecca Long-Bailey, Jess Phillips, Keir Starmer, Lisa Nandy and Emily Thornberry are all standing to become the next leader of the Labour Party.

All five leadership contenders signed up to the series of pledges following the promotion of the pledges on Tuesday 15th January by Labour Muslim Network, an organisation which supports British Muslims’ engagement with the Labour Party.

Commenting, MCB’s Secretary General Harun Khan, said:
“We welcome the commitment by all Labour leadership contenders to support Muslim communities in Britain by signing up to the MCB’s pledges.

“These are, of course, not exhaustive to the Muslim community, and combatting all forms of racism, encouraging the full economic, social and public participation of minorities and ensuring a fair approach to educational provision for all children will benefit Britons from all walks of life.

“We hope the next Labour leader engages with a cross section of British Muslim communities to understand their concerns, and seeks to ensure policymaking truly works in the interest of all those across the UK.”

A spokesperson from Labour Muslim Network said:
“The Labour Muslim Network, on behalf of Muslim members of the Labour Party, is happy to join the Muslim Council of Britain in calling on our leadership contenders to back this 10 point pledge.
“The Islamophobia within sections of our media, government and society is a crisis. Any leadership candidate for HM’s Official Opposition must have it as a principle priority.”

Tory donors gave £37 million in run-up to the general election

Steven Swinford, Deputy Political Editor
Thursday February 27 2020,

A record £37 million was given to the Conservative Party in the run-up to the general election, including 18 donations of £500,000 from some of the wealthiest people in Britain.

Political parties received £70 million between them in the final quarter of last year, eclipsing the previous record by £28 million.

The Tories received three times more than Labour, which was given £10.7 million, while the Liberal Democrats received £13.6 million despite their dismal showing in the polls. The Brexit Party received £7.15 million and failed to win a single seat.

The JCB group of companies, owned by the Bamford family, donated £3.2 million between them, while Peter Hargreaves, the co-founder of the financial services company Hargreaves Lansdown, gave £1 million. A string of property companies also gave large sums: Bridgemere UK and Countrywide both gave £1 million.

John Gore, a theatre producer, and Peter Wood, the founder of Direct Line and Esure, gave £1 million each.

The scale of the influence of Tory donors was shown earlier this week at the Black and White Ball in Battersea, south London.

More than 650 people paid £1,000 a head to attend the Conservatives’ winter party, with auction items including a game of tennis with the prime minister. It was claimed last night that Lubov Chernukhin, who is married to a former ally of Vladimir Putin, paid £45,000 for that lot.

The single biggest donation in the run-up to the election was made by Lord Sainsbury, the former chairman of Sainsbury’s, who gave £8 million to the Liberal Democrats.

Labour’s biggest donors were the unions, with Unite giving £3.5 million, Unison £741,000 and Usdaw £500,000. The Brexit Party received more than £6 million from the businessman Christopher Harborne.

Louise Edwards, the director of regulation at the Electoral Commission, said: “In the final three months of 2019, political parties reported accepting the highest value of donations in one quarter since our records began. The value of the donations accepted by parties in the last quarter exceeded the previous high, from 2017, by almost £28 million.”

She added: “While there is no limit to the value of donations political parties can accept, spending rules are in place during elections to keep the campaign fair.

“Publishing this data allows voters to see clearly how parties in Great Britain are being funded, enhancing public confidence and trust in our democratic processes.”

Tennis game against Boris Johnson goes for a song at Tory auction ball

It was a gathering of the Conservative great and good — and those who pay for them.

Boris Johnson thanked the Tory donors who bankrolled the general election campaign with dinner and a rendition of Land of my Fathers yesterday, before asking them to delve into their pockets again.

More than 650 people paying £1,000 a head turned up for the Conservatives’ winter party and auction in Battersea, south London, on Tuesday night. For that they were treated to jokes at their expense by the Welsh “Go Compare” opera singer Wynne Evans and Mr Johnson himself, who tried his hand at singing and auctioneering.

Among the more surreal lots, which went for more than £60,000, was a game of tennis with the prime minister, with the chairman of the Conservative Party acting as ball boy.

Another was the chance to watch a premiere of the new Bond film in Monte Carlo, with a meeting with Prince Albert of Monaco thrown in.

There was also lunch in a prison with Robert Buckland, the justice secretary, and a week’s stay at a villa in northern Italy, the centre of a coronavirus outbreak. If that was not risky enough guests could also bid for a flight in a Lancaster bomber with the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, at the controls.

At one stage Mr Johnson was challenged by Evans to join him in a rendition of the Welsh national anthem Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, with the opera singer joking that he had a “touch of the John Redwoods” — a reference to the MP’s notorious attempt as Welsh secretary to remember the words at a party conference in Wales in 1993, which was captured on video.

The evening started with a behind-the-scenes film of Mr Johnson’s election campaign made by the Tories’ social media gurus Sean Topham and Ben Guerin. The video showed the prime minister shivering in the cold as he tried to film a parody of Love Actually, in which he appears on an apathetic voter’s doorstep armed with a stack of placards and a stereo playing Silent Night. “It’s bloody cold,” Mr Johnson is heard complaining as he is forced to take off his coat to film the sequence.

The prime minister then came on stage to the Rolling Stones’ “walk-on anthem” Start Me Up. There he thanked the donors who had helped to bankroll the campaign that gave the Conservatives their largest Commons majority since the 1980s. One source said it was a more serious speech than they had expected as he promised to use the Tories’ mandate to rebalance the economy. Others said it was lacklustre and less humorous than expected.

After an “indistinct” starter and a main course of fish it was time for the main event: the celebrity auction.

Mr Johnson tried to auction himself off for the tennis match before realising he had no idea how to conduct an auction. “He said, ‘I’m not doing this’ in his usual Boris way,” one source said. “I think he thought it looked a bit absurd. He asked Ben [Elliot, the Tory co-chairman] to do it, then Ben asked the Go Compare guy. It was a bit surreal.”

Another lot was donated by David Ross, one of the founders of Carphone Warehouse. Unlike the Caribbean holiday he gave the prime minister on Mustique, this was for a grouse shooting party on his North Yorkshire estate.

There were gold and silver versions of the Brexit Day 50p commemorative coin, along with a copy of the withdrawal agreement signed by Mr Johnson, in a package that fetched £60,000.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/donor-bids-60-000-to-play-tennis-with-boris-johnson-at-tory-fundraiser-7r0sw6z9q

Life appears to be just one jolly frolic for the Prime Minister incumbent. Meanwhile, the country goes to the dogs..

A reminder of what Socialism and Communism actually looks like

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/26/nexhmije-hoxha-widow-of-albanias-dictator-dies-aged-99

Enver Hoxha, who died in 1985, banned private property and religion, ran a centralised economy, sealed off the country’s borders and dotted it with thousands of pillbox bunkers and millions of concrete posts topped with sharp spikes to deter the aerial troops he feared would invade.
He allied with the Soviet Union and China only to disagree with them later while remaining an enemy of the west.
His wife died in her house surrounded by books and photos of her husband, children and grandchildren she had taken with her when she was evicted from their sprawling communist-era villa.
She led his propaganda machine, a Marxism and Leninism institute and the Democratic Front – an umbrella organisation that served as a tool of Communist Party control.
More than 6,000 people were executed as opponents of the regime under Enver Hoxha’s rule while over 34,000 were jailed, about 1,000 of whom died, while 59,009 were sent into internal exile, the group estimates.
***
I have Albanian friends, who got out and now live in Northern Italy, and in fact took Italian citizenship only last week.
They are theoretically Muslims, because that part of the world was under Ottoman rule for centuries, but then all religion was banned, so they are free to choose their own set of moral rules.   Strangely those seem to coincide with what most of the rest of us work out for ourselves from first principles.

Let us not forget that McDonnell, very recently, promised to lock up Tories when Labour got into power
""I want to be in a situation where no Tory MP can show their face in public without being challenged by Direct action (Insurrection) - They are social criminals & eventually, i warn you, WE WILL TRY THEM!""

https://twitter.com/i/status/1157326624746102784

and went onto explain that Labour would have to invent a new law to do so.

Corbyn’s notoriously aggressive deputy was challenged about past footage of him calling Tories “social criminals” who should be tried in court, initially shrugging it off and saying “I was angry. It was after the first round of benefit cuts”. When Dale pressed him and asked what law Tories would be tried under, McDonnell replied “I might want to invent it”.
Fascism is National Socialism.
Communism is International Socialism

CORONAVIRUS

Dominic Raab urged to extend Brexit transition period because of coronavirus

Dominic Raab was accused of “reckless insanity” after suggesting that the coronavirus pandemic bolsters the case for Britain not to delay the completion of the Brexit process.

Mr Raab was asked to “urgently” extend the transition period of negotiations over a final deal “to focus 100 percent on the emergency in front of us.”

“The last thing economy needs, on top of coronavirus, is the further shock of a hard or no-deal Brexit at end of this year,” the Labour MP Ben Bradshaw said.

Brilliant, thank you for posting this Blue Bag.  Very interesting indeed. David makes a lot of sense.

One thing that stood out in particular is the 'permanent government' (the 'Elite'?) and that people like Boris and Trump are just 'front men' controlled by those above them, and it doesn't matter which Party is in government because the 'permanent government' doesn't change with a change of government.

The 'permanent government' (I assume this means the Civil Service? Or maybe, even, the military? Or both?) would explain why the McCanns are getting away with it despite the case being handed over to the Tories by the Labour Party, and why the MET Police are also puppets of someone even higher up than Boris Johnson.

Maybe the McCanns have got 'something' on someone in the 'permanent government', rather than the government, and why the Maddie case was once described as 'national security'.

I always want to shy away from conspiracy - perhaps it's because I'd like to have some faith in our police and security services.

I've watched a few of David Icke's videos across the years and I have always had a gut feeling all is not good in his realm of authority.

Icke recruited Sonia Poulton and it ended acrimoniously. Neither of them came out of the relationship well.

Icke also makes a very lucrative living of offering his own opinion.

I apologize to the forum for not liking Icke. I'm not going to watch another Icke on the mic production.

I never said I liked him (and I know you haven't said I do) because I've never followed him, I've always known of his reputation as a conspiracy theorist (much like Richard Hall's) and I know about him and Poulton - but what he says in this interview is very believable (much like most of Richard Hall's documentaries). There comes a point when you think hmmmmm, maybe he's right because he's been predicting these things for thirty years and now it's happening.

I could have a conversation with anyone today and convince them of something because I have an opinion about it.

Some of it, all of it, or a percentage of it might be true or a load of old codswallop.

I could also open up a blog or some other fandangled way of earning a lot of money for saying the bloody same thing with nothing other to offer than a God model and a truly scarey, cultist model/education  that can be bought on the internet to mind boggle people.

That's how I feel about Icke.
