Doctor was ‘painfully’ out of her depth after girl, four, with 95 per cent chance of survival died after being given wrong medication, coroner rules
Freya Wells had 95 per cent chance of survival when she entered hospital
Was admitted vomiting blood, with a history of vomiting and diarrhoea
Dr Ibrahim gave her oral antibiotics, even though she was vomiting
Laughed off junior staff's pleas to put her on IV antibiotics and medication
Doctor has been referred for suspension, pending a full investigation
Family is now considering legal action against Kingston NHS Trust
girl of 4
vomiting
laughed off other doctor's opinions

no similarity with any other case, of course.

Terribly tragic. What a dreadful experience for the poor little girl and the mother.
This happens all too often. The arrogance of one doctor causing a needless death.
But why didn't the junior doctor or the nurses contact the consultant themselves?

What is the other similar case you refer to PM?

Why do people persist in deifying medics when so many of them are incompetent?

The doctors who should be lauded are the researchers who develop the drugs that alleviate pain and cure conditions - provided they're administered properly by those who prescribe them.

I do know that people think Oh a Consultant they must be very clever and very brainy.   consultant surgeons/physicians are allowed to sit the necessary exams up to 5 times I believe (or they used to).

People are complaining about A level re-sits but what about the doctors who are able to take the exams time and again.

Patients should be made aware of how many times doctors have had to take the FRCS/FRCP exam IMO.   I know I would rather see a doctor who has only taken it once or possibly twice as opposed to 5 times.

This might also apply to doctors wishing to become GPs.    I have had some pretty awful GPs in my time so would not be surprised.

As UT says the researchers are the ones who should be lauded imo too.
