Wedding or engagement ring?

I'm most probably being rather picky and pedantic with the following observation but from Kates Diary when she writes about the evening of 3rd May (which she remembers so clearly) she wrote :- I have clear recollections of that night. You were so tired. After your baths, you sat on my knee and put my wedding ring on your finger.

She then says in her book :- 'Here is another of those vivid, now cherished memories: She asked if she could wear my engagement ring which she often liked to do. I took it off and she put it on her middle finger for a few minutes'.

If the memories were so vivid, I think you would remember what ring it was?

Maybe far fetched but I wonder if Madeleine had a habit of putting things in her mouth and managed to choke to death on a ring?
Does Kate still wear both rings?

It's just one of the many story lines the McCanns feed us. I'm sure we'll come across the original idea in Mills and Boone or TV soaps.

I don't believe the whole story about the rings. All children put things in their mouth and up their noses until they learn not to do so. Usually before the age of four.
So here we have more of these lovely parent/children interactions:
Gerry reading a story to the children
Kate reading stories to the children
Kate playing with Maddie and her jewellery (not unless it involves a photo shoot and make up as well)
Gerry and Kate taking the children to the beach and have an ice cream (another fairy tale - it's in the book to show how caring and careful they were and gives Gerry the opportunity to spot a suspicious hippy type paedo guitar player, Kate to describe her agony to have twenty paces between her and the children because she didn't want to leave them alone ).
Then the reported remarks from Maddie re the best day ever in her little life and an appointment with Mum to show her the new dance she'd learned.
Everything about parenting comes out of books, films and soaps. Kate's: she was my best friend, we'd go out for lunch together - she speaks about a four year old child as if it is her mate Fiona.
In none of the videos I've ever seen is there any real interaction, as far as Maddie is concerned, she doesn't look spontaneous in the videos as if she isn't sure what is expected of her. Same in many photographs. Maddie was never a secure, happy child imo.
All those stories are given to us with a purpose, to make the parents look better in our eyes. Too late.

Besides, that would be a real accident, with proof. There would have been no reason to hide the body. Even if they were not there when it happened, they could just say they were there, or just in the shower, or whatever.

When I see the McCanns in videos or stills with the twins, it doesn't look like a real family, the children might as well be dogs for all the notice their parents take of them. There's only communication if one of them strays or doesn't keep up.
I think there was very little 'play' with the children full stop.

Looking at all the photos in the PJ files...there are none marked mother with daughter ie kate and maddie... not even on the beach. Apart from the dodgy few of maddie on her own released, the rest of the photos from the holiday has MBM? (question mark). Even with the best possible picture clarity the PJ can't be sure if any were of maddie

Everything kate says here...especially the best pals bit which is utterly ridiculous is complete rubbish to be very polite!...a fantasy and big lies to fool the public and everyone else. They think in their little arrogant selfish world that we are stupid...well think again mccanns & cronies, we are so on to you all

Hi Stella yes that did cross my mind, I imagine it was highly unlikely she did choke on a ring but I remember when I was about five I choked on an orange, so badly I couldn't breath at all, couldn't speak to attract my mothers attention and went unconscious for a very short time and in the process collapsed and banged my head on the kitchen floor, not enough for blood but enough for a bruise, thankfully my mum saw me before it was too late.
I still cant each oranges!

I'm always dubious when a mother says of her teenage daughter 'we're like best mates' or we're more like sisters than mother and daughter' let alone a mother saying it about a three year old!

A mother is a mother, to guide you, to love you, to be there for you. Not to be a mate or sister, sounds all wrong to me.

She is trying to fool the public that she was a loving mother to Maddie and as there is no proof of this that they can release, its come down to words only, and think by saying they are best mates is proofing to us all how close she was to her and what a great mother she was

But surely even those who arent "like us" meaning those who pay no real attention to the case must pick up on these things? "my mate my best friend..." about a three year old... If Kate had said "she was my little sunshine in my life" though cliched as it is, that would resonate with a lot of parents. Why doesnt anyone think "hmm, odd"?

When describing Maddie, Kate frequently says: 'She's very loving, she was my sunshine, she would light up a room, etc. etc.
Loving, not loved. Not " I love/loved her to bits...
She would light up a room - made life nicer for others....

We know next to nothing about the real Maddie and what we are told is hard to believe.
She loved Harry Potter, no way could she understand it at that age. But good link for the business. I think JKR saw through them pretty quickly.
And so on, but what did she eat, what did she love to do and what were her favourite toys (no thanks, not your fake CC) who did she play with?
For it was sure a hell not the twins, as Kate herself said, they didn't have much to do with her.

Yet in the book she describes how Madeleine plays with the twins, and how their interaction fascinated Kate, because younger Sean and Maddie would "bond" but as they grew older Maddie and Amelie got closer and did girlie stuff... So that implies they interacted a lot, you cant "bond" with someone you dont have a lot to do with do you? Or am I misinterpreting English language (Im not a native speaker so its possible!)

I certainly think that Kate has got her ideas on what constitutes being a mother from books. Many years ago I thought that because I'd read a few books written by "experts" I knew all there was to know about caring for a baby. It took me about five minutes after having a baby to realise that I knew nothing!

Going by Kate's literary efforts (particularly the infamous page 129 and the lesser known quote on page 176 - "not being with her today, loving her, pleasing her, enjoying her delight, was unbearable") I dread to think what sort of books she has been reading to make her think that her behaviour is normal!

I do have the quote somewhere, it was quite early on. Soon after that, I expect they had their PR advice and were told what would pull at the public's heart strings.
That book really sets my teeth on edge. Several people have gone through it with a fine toothcomb, even so, many, like Russian Doll have managed to get a lot of information from the way some events are described or fomulated.

Not that it really matters which ring it was Madeleine loved to play with but likely to be Kate's engagement ring as that is in front of the wedding ring after marriage. Can be taken off when doing all the chores [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] , so that would be the one easily available imo.

Just all seems so contrived to me. Why not just a lovely cuddle up with her three children?

I quite agree.
I am sporadically going through the book (quite frankly it's dull unless you really want to know all about Mr & Mrs) but I am determined to read it.
Definitely very contrived, a lot of minutiae that is totally irrelevant but is somehow made to make us believe that everything was hunky dory which plainly it wasn't.

I agree the book is dull but Im always trying to decode it. Even if I JUST use the book, I can prove its a bunch of B...S... and she is not truthful. Without refering to any PJ files,other stuff or whatever! We had a book fare here now, I was hoping she would come so I could ask her so Kate, which was it.... ?
