Was Madeleine really loved and appreciated

Kate and Gerald Mccann couldn't conceive naturally so they had to resort to IVF for Madeleine and the twins. They (Kate particularly) constantly state how much they love their children but... when on holiday what do they do? They put the children into childrens clubs and creches morning and afternoon each day and worse in the evening they leave their defenceless children in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country (out of direct sight of their restaurant) for up to 3 hours at a time (every night!). For intelligent people this is incredibly crass and unthinking. In fact Kate said in an interview with the times:

“I can’t describe how much I love Madeleine. If I’d had to think for one second, ‘Should we have dinner and leave them?’ I wouldn’t have done it.”

Well you should have shouldn't you Kate? Why not use the evening creche system ("would disturb their sleep") or failing that pay one of the nannies to babysit in the appartment - I have read that that was acceptable but you do have to pay.

Why go through the indignities and stress of IVF just to dump your children when you go on holiday?

I don't have a problem with them using the day childcare facilities. That was a key reason why they group chose this holiday because childcare facilities were included in the price.

You can love your children dearly yet want a break from them on occasion.

But I cannot accept how parents who had to use IVF to have a family would be so casual in the evening and be too mean to hire a nanny from the day service. My sister in law had to use IVF and after 8 years of marriage has a health baby girl. She would never ever do what the McCann's did in the evening.

To be fair Rosa to other parents (not the McCanns) there are child murders which have happened simply because the victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time, like James Bulger and Sarah Payne (not sure if her case will be as familiar to you in New Zealand as it is in England) and the parents were in no way to blame.

Yes Marian i agree there are tragic cases it fair to those parents but not the mccanns who have a violent crime scene in 5a and no Madeleine

I've always got this feeling that neither parents loved Madeleine very much.
I suspect Madeleine became surplus to requirements when the twins came along. They suddenly had the perfect family: 1 girl and 1 boy, they didn't need a 'difficult' capricious child any more.
At least that the vibe I picked from both parents and one of the things that made me suspicious about them.

The reason I asked the question is although I understand that it is important for parents to have their quality time on holiday it is also just as important to share many experiences as a family and would have expected the parents to spend some days on the beach with their children and not just leave them in childcare at every available opportunity. This leaving them alone in a locked/unlocked (they can't make their minds up) apartment beggars belief.

Another concern is that when asked about what they actually do with Madeleine they couldnt seem to think of anything quickly - tennis and swimming came to their minds (but Madeleine had been doing this with the childminders not her parents.

Also when Madeleine was found missing they chose to rip the covers of her book to work out the timelines (I know it wasn't actually them but Gerry was apparently sitting at the table at the time).

It is only my opinion but I think sometimes the cover of her book being written on gets lambasted unfairly.

Put yourself in their shoes and allow for one moment that they didn't have anything to do with her disappearance. Wouldn't you grab the first thing you could lay your hand on to write down anything you needed to remember?

That is not to say that I condone all of their actions that night and nor do I think that they have been entirely honest but the book, for me, feels a little like beating up for beating ups sake. Sorry!

I agree kololi,never understood why it mattered.IF they had nothing to do with it then a flippin sticker book would not seem as important as finding Madeleine and hell they could buy her a 100 sticker books when she was found.
