WAR OF WORDS LOOMS OVER MADELEINE MCCANN BOOKS

War of Words in Express 235580_1

Kate McCann publishes her fundraising book called Madeleine later this year

Sunday March 20,2011

By James Murray

FORMER Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral is
set for a new legal battle with Kate and Gerry McCann after writing a
second book about their missing daughter Madeleine.

Mr Amaral’s book will be published in Portugal
next month shortly before Kate McCann publishes her fundraising book
called Madeleine.
It could
not come at a worse time for Kate, 42. She is hoping someone who reads
her book will come forward with information about the person who took
her daughter on May 3, 2007.
The
McCanns’ private investigator David Edgar is also preparing to beef up
his team in Portugal to react swiftly to any new leads produced by
Kate’s book. It goes on sale in Britain on May 12 and a week later in
Portugal.
The McCanns have
already fought a costly legal battle over Mr Amaral’s first book on the
case. Called Maddie: The Truth Of The Lie, it was taken off the shelves
for several months before being allowed back on sale.
On Friday the McCanns lost an appeal in Portugal’s Supreme Court to stop his first book from going back on the shelves there.

The timing of this new book is just coincidental, nothing was planned

Goncalo Amaral’s wife Sofia said

In
the book Mr Amaral put forward the theory that Madeleine had died in
apartment 5a of the Ocean Club complex in Praia da Luz on the Algarve.
His conclusion angered the McCanns, who insist there is no evidence to
suggest Madeleine died there and they still hope she is alive.
Now
the stage is set for a fresh legal battle. Mr Amaral’s wife Sofia said:
“Goncalo has been working on his book for about six months, spending
days and nights assessing all the evidence. He has put in an enormous
amount of work. The title has not been decided and a publication date
will be sorted out this week.
“At
this stage he doesn’t want to say too much, but he will say his
investigation was cut short and he will explain what he would have done
if he had been allowed to continue. The book is not just about
Madeleine. He gives the background to other big cases he was involved
with.

“The
timing of this new book is just coincidental, nothing was planned. We
are not trying to cash in on the fourth anniversary of Madeleine’s
disappearance and we do not want a fight over Kate’s book.”
Mr
Amaral was a senior investigation officer in the case but was taken off
it after criticising British police for an alleged lack of
co-operation.
After
resigning from the Policia Judiciaria, he has become a successful author
in Portugal and regularly appears on television news. He has tried to
publish The Truth Of The Lie in Britain but no publisher has accepted it
for fear of being sued for libel.
Kate
McCann is said to have been warned by her publisher to be careful of
what she says about Mr Amaral. However, she does chronicle her
frustration with him and her anger over the way he looked at the case.
The Sunday Express can also reveal that Mr Edgar has been making regular trips to Portugal to check out leads in recent months.
A
source said: “The investigation is very active. There is a hope that
Kate’s book will lead to someone coming forward with the key piece of
the jigsaw.”

Thanks littlepixie for that article.

Interesting!

So despite advice from her publisher KM decided to ignore it.
As usual she knows better - she went ahead to chronicle her frustration with Amaral's theory - is it any surprise? It could be a good thing - the more she focused on Amaral in the book the more attention it will bring to Amaral's way of looking at the case.
Well, people are going to think...well he was afterall the chief inspector in charge of the case, and he was the one with full access to investigation process and results on hand to look at the case whichever way the evidence points to. So who are the mccanns to insist on the abduction theory?
Something must be wrong with the mccanns if they didnt answer investigators questions nor volunteer to cooperate in any other way except by paying 'publicity lip service' pretending they would cooperate but never ever walked their talk neither did they rally police to reopen the case.
Just how did they expect the police to do their work by not providing info to police voluntarily whatsoever other than saying they knew for sure 'maddie was taken'. Well, the evidence showed to the contrary.

Her scathing comments on Amaral will make people realised she's far too critical of investigators without any valid reasons and without providing evidence to support their own abduction theory, although of late their mouthpiece, Mr Pinky, had tried to change their position by saying the 'abduction is just a hypothesis'. What hypocrites the mccanns lot!! Neither mccanns nor their drinking friends did anything to help the police...they fled home and simply refused reconstruction - end of.

What a load of bull excrements her book is going to be full of -- it's termed fundraising book - what a bloody JOKE! Gulliable public who hadnt seen through them before, the book is going to be eyeopener for them.
Now i must admit i cant wait for the book release - not that i'm rushing out to buy it ...NEVER...but cant wait to read comments from those willing to line the mccanns pocket.

HOORAY...I like it v much that the Press is finally mentioning their appeal failure; and boy oh boy and Amaral's second book appearing ahead of mccanns release....geez what a coup....Onwards and upwards......for Amaral.
The public is reminded again about the 'Truth of the lies'.......and may even rush out to get their hands on it, if nothing else just out of curiosity over why the mccanns filed the injuction but never got their way.

The mccanns' boat is not going down a silence and calm stream as they would like...well tough for them!

Yes, better late than never! Goncalo Amaral is not going away, Gerry. I hope GA will take them to the cleaners. If all their book money goes on paying out GA and empties the fund, then what next? Another book, a movie? I think Joe Public are fed up of hearing about them. They are pushing their luck with one book.

Rest assured we wont hear the last of the mccanns. What they certainly wont do this time is start another litigation against Dr Amaral's 2nd book. The court made it clear he's equal right as anyone to freedom of expression.

We shall see how long ID lasts...at least until the libel case is heard I suppose.
ID giving up the mccans or vice versa will throw a spanner into the work because I cant see any famed lawyer in PT wanting to take on mccanns as clients, not after ID miserable failure - what a fall for after her past exemplary records. Actually ID is her own enemy - arrogance did her in.

Of course the libel is not heard yet, but the verdict is almost foregone imo.

I think the Express have been hedging their bets and are now about to get their revenge. They have mentioned the Truth of the lie and how the book has been unbanned.

I hope this is just the start and that the tapas lot are bricking it.

Do not mess with the Press they are far more powerful than the McCanns can ever hope to be. party

Well this article in the Express is very good news for GA. I agree that it has come just at the right time, hopefully he will get more publicity with another Book due to be published. And now more people wising up to the "abduction hypothesis" - and the case seems to be spreading over the net as well so more and more people are becoming curious.

What will the Mccanns do if Kate's Book flops ? Well we know the McCanns are always one step ahead of the action, they have to be, so my guess is more "sightings" definitely a lot more press articles about them "whinging". It is possible they will go for Madeleine - The Film.

Poetic justice for the EXPRESS and the mccanns can do nothing about that factual reporting.

Wait till their libel trial comes up and EXPRESS will have field days. They are going to recoup their pay out whichever they can surely. In fact I bet they cant wait for the opportunity and occasion.

I dont think it matters to the mccanns whether the book flops. It could be a piece of junk full of lies they will still get to boost up their Fund from Press paying them for serialisation rights. Plus the publisher will have paid them an upfront fee for rights to publish their book. Why do people need to buy the book if they can read it from the papers serialisation.

If anything Transworld, the publisher/distributor stands to lose the most.
