Parents withdraw from Lorraine interview Empty Parents withdraw from Lorraine interview

McCanns pull out of Lorraine TV show appearance after devastating libel defeat.
Kate and Gerry were expected to talk to ITV’s Lorraine Kelly on Tuesday, the ninth anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
But they have pulled out after suffering a £390,000 setback in their libel battle with ex-Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral.
They fear the court fight will deflect attention from the search for Maddie, who was three when she disappeared from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

The country’s appeal court has ruled in favour of the former cop and overturned the libel payout that he was ordered to make to the McCanns.
He wrote a book in which he accused the couple of covering up Maddie’s accidental death.
Kate, 48, and Gerry, 47, of Rothley, Leics, were said to be seething over the decision and are now lining up an appeal in Portugal’s Supreme Court.
They are also said to have turned down huge television and magazine interview offers from around the world.
Meanwhile, Mr Amaral, 57, has now been allowed to re-publish his book.
It is back on sale and is set to appear in English for the first time.
A family friend said: “They would love to make a new appeal, but are aware that any journalist would want to inquire about Mr Amaral’s victory.
“They’re seething over the ruling. That’s the last thing they want to discuss. ’

Of course they want to avoid answering anything connected to Amarals  win or book... It would open a great big can of squirmy worms!!!

And their facial expressions would be pretty hard to mask!!!

Absolutely nothing to do with the 'search' for Madeleine!
They would have been jumping for joy, straight in the hot seat with Lorraine had it gone their way! drama

Exactly, but which is it? First it's Amarals truth book now the 'court fight'...easily remedied if they just accept the  courts recent decision. Anyhow haven't OG just implied that Madeleine is dead due to a bungled burglary? So really no need for a 'search' just get the 'correct authority' to ask those petty "burglars" where they 'placed' her!!?(Rest her Soul)

Lorraine Kelly has always been sympathetic to the McCanns. You might suppose that now, more than ever, they might wish to declare that Amaral has got it wrong, and that people should not stop looking for their daughter ........

Setback? More like a devastating and comprehensive defeat. 3 judges unanimous, book to be sold, English version to be published, 100% of costs to be paid by McCanns, copy of Amaral / PJ theory included in the written judgement. Some "setback".

I suppose it's not a surprise that they pulled out. It looks terrible that they have - implies guilt / implies that they are afraid to answer questions about Amaral / implies that they know they have lost public support and belief. But to have appeared was worse - shifty looks / bad answers / unconvincing bravado and a public airing of Amaral's theory again. Heads they lose, tails they lose even bigger. They picked heads.

The past 9 years have been a house of cards constructed by the McCanns. The cards have suddenly been blown down, exposing them to public scrutiny. And also exposing how flimsy their house really was.

Seems strange, though that they would withdraw from an interview with Lorraine. She has never asked them any challenging questions, just fawned over them and helped them justify themselves. I would have thought in their present position this would be just what they needed. Maybe they are finding it harder to put up a united front anymore. I thought for a long time that it is amazing the marriage has survived, and when it all crumbles, Kate will do a Lance Armstrong style confessional along the lines of 'he made me do it !'. Anyway, it is all extremely worrying for those twins.

Do I detect just a slight indication of a change in the tide. The last person to ignore the tide did not come out so well. Mind you I expect the McCann lifeboat team headed by Prince of PR crap CM will be coming to the rescue.

Sorry Madeleine darling, mummy and daddy are seething we didn't win the money.
We lost heart to appeal for your return.
We also rejected the around the world opportunity to appeal for your safe return because they all are going to ask mummy and daddy inconvenient questions and we can't be arsed to answer those.

Sorry darling you will have to wait until mummy and daddy win the appeal and win some money then we may (again) keep you high profile (and us in the limelight).
At the moment we must keep low profile.
Sorry honey, mummy and daddy good name is more important.

One day....one day when our image is sorted out and we have tons of money in our pockets we will mention your name again on TV around the world.
P.S. Oh BTW we appear on TV not to appeal directly to your captor to return you to us (you're just an excuse) for mummy and daddy to stay in the limelight.
We enjoy the attention. The more attention on us the more sympathy for us and more money.

Don't understand what the defeat or anything else for that matter got to do with their appeal for her return? Surely the APPEAL is paramount and no obstacle is insurmountable to desperate parents.

Oh dear, they allow one obstacle to put paid to Gerry's long term dream of annual celebrity (they are the celebrities) events to commemorate her disappearance.

I would like to think this is more to do with Operation Grange than G. Amaral.  They haven't done any interviews recently. They can't discuss anything to do with OG or any recent events because OG are not on their side even if Clarence' statements suggest they are  All questions would have and did go through Clarence first before they went on air. What can they say about Madeleine's disappearance? First question asked "why do you think Madeleine never left PdL/Portugal?  Now that would give them a lot of difficulty.  They will have been advised that it would  too risky to go on TV.  It would be as bad as going to a Court of Law.

Oh give it a rest please.   Can't go on because of the recent Court judgement?

Surely their first thoughts should be for an appeal to the "abductor/s" and a message to Maddie that they have not given up hope and they love her with all their hearts?

That would be my priority.

If the story is true, then I believe it's related to Amaral.  This is a huge setback for the parents but, more importantly, a victory for Amaral, which they can't stomach.  They're seething, apparently.

Maybe they know more than we do and can see the usual unwavering support is disappearing now Amaral has won and the threat of legal action doesn't seem enforceable?  MSM surely can't wait to report the truth, they will sell so many newspapers.  They never usually pass up the opportunity for a plea do they? Too optimistic?

Any journalist might want to ask questions but Lorraine has always shown herself, on TV and in print, to be an unswerving supporter of the McCanns. They would be assured no such difficult questions and would be almost guaranteed to be able to put any spin on their defeat. It seems a peculiar notion that they bring Amaral to court claiming he hampered the search for their daughter but here they have an opportunity to spin things their way again and publicise the search...but they're missing out?

I suspect I know the truth. It's not the Amaral victory, it's the 3 burglars story. Perhaps they know this will be brought up and neither have successfully managed to keep a straight face discussing it?  tongue

If they believe what's written in GA's book to be a pack of lies, then why have they turned down the chance to appear on Lorraine. It would have been a good chance for them to rubbish the book but no, they know that everything written is true.

They've lost their fight!

ETA I wonder how much those magazine interviews and tv offers would have been worth?

We still don't know if they get a fee every time they warm LK's sofa with their butts.

Do not underestimate the damage done to the couple's party line by the fact Brits set up a fund to pay for Amaral's appeal. They can criticize Amaral and the Portuguese legal system but what can they say about his British supporters? Calling us trolls doesn't cut it anymore.

The Crimewatch appeal mugshot. They were terrified.  I don't think they are party to any information that comes from the investigation no matter what 'a source says' . They will have been legally advised not to do any interviews because of the book too of course but I am sure OG plays a big part too. The 3 burglar story has already been debunked within hours of yesterday's story.  SY have never admitted to leaking that story as far as I am aware.
