Gerry and a crèche worker?
I'm puzzled why a crèche worker would lie for the McCanns...
Just throwing this out there...but what if she was involved?
What if they had booked a sitter to go a bit further afield one night - as they apparently did, and what if Gerry had gone back earlier than Kate that night? Maybe he had been caught in the act in the apartment...argument starts, child gets injured...
The crèche worker would have been comprised then. Maybe she helped falsify the records, lied about Maddie being around for a few more days...
Just thinking...as always

Universe/december recently posted a similar question about the nannies, along with interesting theories, IMO.
Where is universe/december?

plebgate to lady in red - I was going to ask the same question, except to say why do we need another thread along the same lines?

Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
I have seen that thread - but I'm not suggesting Mark Warner per se was involved - more an individual crèche worker...

Wasn't your suggestion made in a post on that thread (or very similar)?VeraWannabe wrote:I have seen that thread - but I'm not suggesting Mark Warner per se was involved - more an individual crèche worker...

Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
I didn't comment on that thread...it went off track to current affairs last time I looked.
I'm just puzzled why a young girl would stick her neck out for the McCanns.... And why would they invite her to their house in the UK...?
All very personal... Very weird...

The invitation sounds like something which should have been in Kate`s book.

True...I haven't read the book though so not sure if it is mentioned.
It's Cat Baker by the way...

Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
Here's a DM article about her too... The McCanns suggest she's quite a crucial piece to their defence... So it's important to scrutinise this woman I think as I think there's more going on than appears...

Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
Lots of great info on CB - thanks for that :)
And...quite a few people who have questioned WHY she is so loyal to the McCann's - and WHY the McCann's feel so precious about her...
Is there anyway to find out if she babysat for the McCanns any night?
I've also read CB's statement and on the 3rd May she says she was in her room at the time of the abduction alert.

Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
Isn't it all so odd?
I suppose that if Cat Baker had daily contact with the McCanns and their children at the creche it is fairly reasonable to think she might have developed a rapport with the family and came to comfort them in their "time of need". Perhaps a bond was formed during the days after Madeleine's disappearance and she remained in contact with them, hence the visit.
But like everything else with this case, it all somehow seems so suspicious. And somehow unlikely.
So many things that simply rankle.

'Ms Baker was not with the McCanns when the alarm was sounded over Madeleine's disappearance just before 10pm. However, she joined the search shortly after 11pm after completing her duties as a night babysitter'.

I will need to check this but didn't Cat Bakers' statement say that she, and one other nanny, were asleep in their own apartment because they were too tired to go clubbing with the other nannies?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]On the 3rd of May, 2007, Kate and Gerry did not demonstrate any unusual comportment - they seemed friendly and happy. When I finished work that day, I headed for home. Some of my colleagues were going out but I was very tired and did not accompany them. I stayed in the apartment with my friend Rhiannon Fretter and we went to sleep. Two colleagues later returned to the apartment. I was confused and did not understand was happening. They eventually explained to me what had occurred around 22h30-22h35. Emma Wilding told me that Madeleine has disappeared. Leanne Wagstaff also was present.

Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
Yes her statement says she was asleep in her room on the 3rd. But there is mention of her doing babysitting on other nights.
I think the night the McCann's purportedly went to Chaplin's that they probably would have got a babysitter. CB perhaps? And did something happen in the apartment that night which CB was witness/party to?
Why else would she cover for them?

There is NO Mention of Cat Baker in the book, so far as the search engine can find.
Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
Thanks Peter...
So now the McCann's don't want to draw attention to this vital "defence" witness...

Yes, I haven`t read KM`s book but I would have expected some acknowledgement of Cat amongst all the people who supported the McCann. If she hasn`t, I wonder if she is offended.

Re: Gerry and a crèche worker?
I agree mysterion.
Especially as she was :
M's main carer at the OC.
And she also needed counselling too(!).
AND she was shipped off to Greece a week later by MWs.
AND she visited the Mc's in Rothely & even had a photo call for her visit...
Can't believe Kate didn't give her a mention at all in her book...

I'm not keen on the title of this thread and some of the input but I'll add something if I may.
If CB needed counselling and was so upset why on earth would MW deem it correct to send her off to another resort in Greece within the week (presumably to continue with her job of taking care of other people's children)? Is it known what she was doing in Greece?
I'd have thought if someone were so upset they'd be sent home and provided with the appropriate counselling as they were unfit to continue with their duties in any capacity.

I believe that a few of the nannies were transferred to another Mark Warner resort in Greece to do the same job, but they were not entirely happy with this arrangement.
if Cat Baker did meet Madeleine, she could only have known for 1-5 days. I find her reaction to Madeleine's disappearance was way over the top for a child that she had just met. She appeared far more distraught than any of the family members.
Kate did refer to Cat in her book, at least once, when she said that met Cat who was to be Madeleine's nanny for the week and she warmed to her immediately.
Cat says that they first met at creche on the first morning but I am sure that I read somewhere ( shall have to find a link) that Kate says that they first met at the welcome meeting on Sat 28 April.

It's amazing that any nannies were shipped off anywhere given they could possibly provide vital evidence. Trying to get a second interview with a nanny shipped to Greece would have been very difficult for the PJ. In addition, even given the early start of the season there would have been a full complement of staff in place for other resorts.

The crèche workers provided in-apartment babysitting in the evenings.
Which night did the group go to Chaplin's?
