Affairs happen and are usually of no importance to other people but if this one really is so "big" that it threatens to derail Cameron's political agenda then surely it passes the "public interest test" (remember Boris Johnson's recent court case). Conflicts of interest and inappropriate cosying-up (no pun intended) are at the heart of much corruption in this country.

Good point and I think that is the case Tasprin.

I'm reminded of the games of Consequences which I loved as a child - the most unlikely names would end up being paired together.

John Major and Edwina Currie would have seemed like a very bizarre idea at one time!

Edwina Curry with any consenting adult does not strike me as bizarre.

Huhne and Tringinham or whatever her name is. She must have something going for her, but imo it certainly aint her looks.

From what I gather on twitter, there isn`t a superinjunction but its sub-judice which means there is a case presently going on which can`t be influenced.

Which Tory politicians have been the most vocal regarding press regulation?

Today's Telegraph- "No current cabinet member is believed to be involved, but it is said that the
affair could be as publicly shocking as that between John Major and Edwina
Currie which was kept secret for almost two decades"

I really am finding it hard to believe that anything involving consenting adults could be classed as publicly shocking.

We are in the 21st century, not back in the 1960s when such things were indeed scandalous.

Could be a warning from Max Clifford... 'Get me off the hook, or there's plenty more where that came from!'

I don't believe it's the affair per se that is worrying Cameron. It's more likely to be related to a conflict of interest concerning the two parties involved in the affair.

I agree.
And interesting upthread re Max Clifford. After all, he knows where all the bodies are buried, so that fact that he was even arrested, whatever the outcome of the case, suggests that the Berlin wall of 'The Untouchables' is crumbling down...

David Cameron is not really a past or present Cabinet Member, is he?

It's his cabinet, but is he a member of it?

nah, they haven't had time to meet. He's been too busy pretending to be working in the middle east and she's been too busy pretending to be working really hard, really.

According to Kate’s notes, the days started or ended with meetings, phone calls and emails. Cherie Blair, the wife of Tony Blair, Gordon Brown’s predecessor, was one of Kate’s contacts, as demonstrated by the reports of the 17th of July. Before Kate gives Sky News an interview, she speaks with Cherie, who agrees to make a 20 second videoclip about Maddie for the English channel. On that same day, Blair himself pledges assistance and makes himself available for whatever is needed.

Former Cabinet members:

David Laws

Liam Fox

Andrew Mitchell

Lord Strathclyde

Chris Huhne

May be there's more but can't think of any.

"It is understood that the Prime Minister was told of the relationship - which does not involve anyone serving in the Cabinet - within the past few weeks."

Within the 'past few weeks' could be anytime...Its all a play on words
