The euro 'helps tackle unemployment, leads to better-performing economies, and sounder public finances'

Post by Tony Bennett on 12.01.13 5:18

BRUSSELS has been accused of “brainwashing” kids by sending glossy brochures to schools claiming the euro has been a TRIUMPH.

Despite three years of constant crisis, the pamphlet declares the single currency has led to a “better-performing economy” and “sounder public finances”.

The 28 pages — printed to mark the euro’s tenth anniversary — say the currency has helped tackle unemployment.

That’s despite nearly one in eight people in the eurozone being out of work.

Get Britain Out campaign manager Tim Aker said: “This is nothing more than brainwashing young schoolchildren with half-truths and wishful thinking.”

A Commission spokesman said the brochure “rightly highlighted the benefits the currency has brought to Europe”.

Above are the unemployment rates for individual countries, it's easy to see where the trouble lies.
From the Guardian, 9/1/13 - figures for 2012.

Only Italy and France (of comparable economies) are worse off than the UK. Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium, NL etc. are all doing better.
The east bloc countries are almost all much worse, except Romania and I think that's because they're all here and in the UK, pushing up the numbers! sad

AND this is a bloke who has expressed an interest in becoming President of the EU. He'll fit in nicely.

Daily Mail

He's taken millions from dictators and cosied up to warlords. As its reported 'Teflon Tony' is plotting an alliance with a super-rich financier, a devastating critique of the... Man who turned amorality into an art form

Let's be like Norway, Mr Cameron

Just days ago, David Cameron said, of our relationship with the European Union, and warning against any vote to leave the E.U.:

'We don't want to end up like Norway'

Link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2257047/We-dont-want-end-like-Norway-Cameron-warns-refuses-Britains-seat-EUs-table.html

tigger quotes (above) the unemployment rates from all major European countries: Norway's unemployment rate of 3.3% is well below that of any other European country.

In addition, they have no deficit but a surplus of around £100 billion - that's because, instead of sharing their North Sea oil and fish stocks with other countries, including basket-case economies like Greece, they have kept them to themselves.

Plus, being a neutral nation, they are respected internationally for that neutrality, and are as a consequence much used for international conferences. The past understandings between the bitter enemies, Israel and the surrounding Arab countries, were called 'The Oslo Accords', because Norway hosted the peace talks.

Norway is not in the euro.

Norway is not even in the European Union...
