Letter from Ed Milliband to his local party members regarding Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the Labour Party

I have written to my local party members regarding Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the Labour Party:

Dear Labour member,

I am writing to explain to you why I have today called on Jeremy Corbyn to stand down as Leader of the Labour Party.

I have been loyal to Jeremy throughout his tenure as Leader. I resisted calls to speak out against him when he was running for the job and since he was elected. I have backed him 100%.

But my constituents and the country urgently need an effective, united Labour party to try and chart a progressive way forward for Britain after our exit from the European Union. We face grave economic risks and huge uncertainty. The situation has become untenable because the overwhelming majority of members of the Parliamentary party have lost confidence in him.

This is not ideological----the opposition to him is from all wings of the PLP. It is certainly not about a ‘Blairite’ wing of the party. I believe Jeremy’s views on austerity and inequality are important for the future of the party.

Nor is it unconstitutional---our constitution specifically provides for a Leader needing the support of the parliamentary party and the party in the country. The constitution says that if a Leader loses the support of 20% of the Parliamentary party and they nominate another candidate, there should be a fresh ballot. Jeremy has lost the support of more than 75% of the PLP.

I understand my position will upset some party members. Some who support Jeremy and some who fear this is a distraction from the crisis the country faces. To supporters of Jeremy, my candid view is that a progressive, Left agenda is more likely to be taken forward in a united Labour Party, not a wrecked, divided party. And to those who worry about distraction, we cannot function as an effective Opposition in the current circumstances.

Jeremy has had a profound and lasting influence on the debate about who we are as a party and the causes we need to fight for. I know he is someone who cares deeply about those causes, our party and our country. I hope he will reflect on how he can best serve this agenda at this critical moment for Britain and the Labour Party.

With best wishes

Ed Miliband

Sorry but that is just crap.

The opposition is from the Tory-wannabees.

What an absolute load of tosh,"when a Leader loses 20% of the PLP?"
What about a Coup De Tate,Ed, led by the Rich donations given to PLP/MP's funding a campaign,it's called being a "Traitor"Ed if you and your gang of cohorts care to look it up, Jeremy Corbyn the new Ramsey McDonald in 2016,ask Herbert Morrison's Grandson,Peter Mandelson about it Ed, if you are not aware of how the Labour Party Functions. The New nasty Labour Party will be deselecting your Legally Elected Labour Leader whether he likes it or not,"oh I had wished not to have changed the Labour Leadership rules" when I was the Leader x 100 for naughty Ed,is your David back from his jaunts in America, to rescue the Labour Party as the New candidate to lead the Party?

Yesterday they were all out Commemorating the "Battle of the Somme" and the slaying of thousands of young men from both sides of the War in that famous Battle and today Ed Miliband is openly stating his reasons for his beliefs in a formatted letter to his PLP members, talking about "Leadership" of the Labour Party, are you prepared to resign your seat Ed,thought not, milking the holy grail of West Minister bubble with the Elite, nice to see you have put the House in your wife's name Ed,purely to tidy up legal matters and not for any Tax gains on expenses per say?

Another one who has put the house in the wife's name?   eek   Champagne socialist is a very good description for so may of them.

They wonder why the electorate want change, yet wont open the eyes that are bigger than their bellies and realise that the electorate are right.

Just how much money do these people want?

Some just never seem satisfied which tells me a lot about them.
