I was very upset yesterday.

Been a big Bowie fan since 1973.

I bought his last album Blackstar on friday the day it came out, had one of the songs going through my head when I opened the BBC news page yesterday morning. Couldn't believe it.

Everyone now going "oh... that's what the album was about".

The Picasso of pop.

RIP.

Yes, me too, which is why I couldn't post anything yesterday.

The news of his death was the first thing I heard when I came downstairs and put the radio on.

I was just as upset about David's death as I was when John Lennon died particularly, I suppose, because no one knew he'd been so ill and it was a shock.

Now we know what he last video was about.

Another great, influencial musician gone way too soon.

I loved not only his music, but his movies too.
Very sad.

Hard to believe he looked like this just two days before he died.

David Bowie sings Jacques Brel - My Death

The versatility of pure genius.

PS:  Sorry can't post up the video.

I haven't listened to any of Bowie's newer stuff. His music for me is a nostalgic trip back to my teens. We had every vinyl album he did (chucked out when the garage was cleared) to be replaced by CD's.

A truly gifted actor, Alan Rickman has also died aged 69 of cancer.

Cancer is a bastard. It doesn't care who it takes. Today, many people will have died of cancer, taken earlier than their expected 70 years. Some of those people will be children who didn't even have a chance to do anything. Bowie and Rickman died doing what they loved. Although taken too early they were blessed - and bless them for their talent and their entertainment.

Not many have the temerity nor the raw talent to take on Jacques Brel - here is one and Scott Walker another.

I noticed David Bowie's finale includes a rendition of The Port of Amsterdam.  Can't get into that at present because frankly I find Mr. Bowie's ultimate video way beyond the pale, it gives me the creeps but that's just me being me.

Sorry he's gone but can't see what all the fuss is about.

I did not agree with the lifestyle choices he made but all that seems to have been forgotten.   Drugs, reports of him vomiting on his fans at concerts.

Not for me.

Thank you Bluebag.   Could be a myth, but I do remember reading a while back that it happened.   No matter.   This link for me is enough to have to wonder why all the fuss about him?

I prefer to ignore the chosen lifestyles of many performers, if I allowed that to influence my judgement I would never listen to any music at all - and that just won't do!  If these people are not a bit iffy to start, the fame and fortune soon turns them into maniacs of varying degrees.  Fans of both sexes and all persuasions follow them around making easy meat and of course they have the money to do exactly as they please.  David Bowie was no exception.

It's always the same when someone famous dies, the market is flooded with heartwarming tributes from family, friends and fans but just wait a few weeks - out will come all the dirt of past years.  Guaranteed!  Must say after having read about how Bowie's daughter changed his attitude towards his health, I was astonished by his legacy - OK to shock the world by going out with a big bang but family and friends?  IMO, if any proof is required as to the man's mental state (be it a result of past abuse or present) his final recordings with video are it, I shouldn't be surprised if his death was arranged to coincide with the release of the last album.  Sorry to say it's ruined any respect I ever had for the man's spasmodic talent as a musician.

This is only the beginning of a very rocky ride for his wife and family.  I wonder how many are going to emerge from the shadows as ex-lovers and estranged bastard children.  Whatever it will make sordid reading for many years to come.
