I notice that Enid O'Dowd is online today and I'm very pleased to see her presence as Enid could shed some light on this.

Kids Company helped scores of immigrants stay in UK on benefits and arranged private sex-change against NHS doctors advice

  • Kids Company spent public money helping immigrants and on surgery
  • A 207-page report from 2013 states that between March 2011 - March 2013 charity helped 123 people with 'immigration issues' by paying legal bills
  • Sources also say gender reassignment surgery, funded by one of the charity’s private donors, was organised after NHS refused to carry it out
  • It also doled out £60,000 to Oxford University graduate over past 2 years
  • Follows revelations founder Camila Batmanghelidjh had a 'personal private swimming pool' in a £5,000-a-month mansion paid for from charity's funds

EXCLUSIVE: Islamic refugee charities in 'significant cash irregularities' probes

TWO ISLAMIC charities that raised at least £1m between them for "refugees in war torn Syria and Palestine" and "victims of natural disasters in Pakistan" are facing probes into "significant financial irregularities"

By JON AUSTIN
PUBLISHED: 09:27, Thu, Aug 27, 2015 | UPDATED: 12:38, Thu, Aug 27, 2015

The Light Charity UK (TLC) received more than £400,000 in one year, but after paying staff was left with just £8,000 for charitable causes, while the connected Fatimiyya Trust pulled in over £162,000 but had ZERO left after making a loss by spending close to £170,000 on staff and support costs.
The Charity Commission is to carry out separate inquiries into the two west London-based organisations which raised more than £1m between them from 2010 to 2012 and have failed to file subsequent accounts, so the total sum is unknown and could be significantly higher.
TLC, based in Wembley, west London, according to its accounts for the year up to January 31 2013, raised £408,611 in that year.
But it reported fundraising activities cost it over £399,000 - the bulk of which (nearly £344,000 went on staff wages) - leaving under £8,000 in the charity pot.

Bit like some others we could mention !

In effect they are now in debt to the tune of 8000 pounds, Zero will be heaven!  How does that work in practice?  I very much doubt that anyone will have to pay some of their earnings back.

Spending watchdog launches Kids Company inquiry

National Audit Office will look into government’s grounds for providing funding to charity and how it monitored grants

The government’s spending watchdog, the National Audit Office, has announced an investigation into the awarding of public money to the children’s charity Kids Company.
The charity, run by its high-profile founder Camila Batmanghelidjh, shut its doors in August amid concerns about its financial management. It received £3m in a government rescue package a week earlier, part of which was used to pay overdue staff wages.
The money was awarded against the advice of civil servants, who did not think it would represent value for money.
The NAO said its investigation would cover the government’s grounds for providing funding to Kids Company and how it monitored the grants.
More details soon …

Kids Company investigated by NAO

Sallypelt,
Dodgy Dave had nothing to do with any misappropriation of funds cleared by his learned colleagues in Parliament to Kids Company, his eyes were dazzled by Camillas gowns?
Nothing to see here now move along people?

Riddle of Kids Company's tax-free payments to staff who were registered as vulnerable 'clients'
Charity gave hundreds of thousands of pounds tax-free to employees
Document shows 25 clients were given £769,150 between them over 2014
One person is a 26-year-old woman who attended Oxford University
The revelation comes as chief executive faces grilling by MPs
By MILES GOSLETT FOR THE MAIL ON SUNDAY

Scandal-hit charity Kids Company is facing new questions after giving hundreds of thousands of pounds tax-free to employees.
The revelation comes as controversial Kids Company chief executive Camila Batmanghelidjh and BBC executive Alan Yentob, the chairman of trustees, face a grilling by MPs on Thursday about the charity’s collapse in August.
The Mail on Sunday has been passed a Kids Company document listing 25 ‘clients’ – vulnerable young people registered with the charity – who between them were handed £769,150 tax-free during 2014.
But this newspaper has established that some of those on the list have previously said publicly that they were employed by Kids Company, triggering claims that they were registered as clients to avoid paying income tax and National Insurance.
One person on the list of clients is a 26-year-old woman who attended Oxford University. She was registered as a Kids Company client throughout 2013 and 2014 and in this capacity the charity gave her £19,111 in 2013 and £41,556 last year, making a total of £60,667.
But according to networking website LinkedIn, the woman was employed as a Kids Company ‘research and training manager’ between 2012 and 2015, triggering questions about why she was also accepting financial assistance as a client.

In recent months she has given lectures at leading public schools about Kids Company’s work. It is not known whether she received a separate manager’s salary on top of the funds she accepted as a client. The woman was also a director of a company that she co-founded. Records show it was incorporated on July 23, 2013 and dissolved on June 24, 2014.
Last night a Kids Company source said: ‘The money clients were given was meant to cover food, utility bills, rent and mortgage repayments, but in reality it could have been spent on anything. Nobody paid tax or National Insurance on it. It is very strange that someone would say publicly they were a Kids Company employee when they were also registered as a client and being given thousands tax-free.
This money could have been given to them instead of a salary if they really were working for Kids Company. The Charity Commission knows about the list and should have informed the tax authorities by now.’
Another person on the leaked list is a painter and decorator in her late 20s. She received £50,103 in 2014 and £44,613 in 2013, making a tax-free total of £94,716.
But in 2013 she told BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live that she worked for Kids Company doing up houses belonging to the underprivileged. During the show she praised Ms Batmanghelidjh for helping her settle in London after arriving from Jamaica.
It is not clear whether she accepted the client funds of £94,716 on top of any Kids Company salary or instead of it.
It has not been possible to identify all 25 names on the client list, meaning there may be others at the centre of the latest tax riddle. But it is understood some may have used the charity to boost their income. One, an actor who has appeared in a major film with an A-list celebrity, last year accepted £24,177 from Kids Company.
The charity collapsed amid financial chaos and allegations that it helped only a fraction of the 36,000 vulnerable young people that it said it supported.
Kids Company had received £43 million of Government money over the past ten years but it is now being investigated by the Charity Commission and the National Audit Office.
A police inquiry has also been launched over allegations of sexual abuse.
This week, MPs on the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee will quiz Ms Batmanghelidjh and Mr Yentob on why Kids Company became bankrupt and was forced to close with the loss of 600 jobs.

Al Capone, anyone ?

A pile of Aladdin’s laundry - gives evidence . . .

Post by PeterMac on Fri Oct 16, 2015 8:31 am

Alan Yentob’s day of embarrassment over Kids Company... from £150 shoes to ‘abusive limericks’
POLITICAL SKETCH: In bizarre exchanges, MPs interrogate the BBC executive and Camila Batmanghelidjh over the collapse of the children’s charity

By Michael Deacon, Parliamentary Sketchwriter 5:13PM BST 15 Oct 2015

Camila Batmanghelidjh – the former CEO of Kids Company – stiffened. This time, Bernard Jenkin had gone too far.
“On what basis,” she inquired haughtily, “have you decided that this was a ‘failing’ charity?”
The Conservative MP for Harwich & N Essex met her glare equably.
“It’s gone bust,” he said.

Today’s meeting of the public administration select committee has a reasonable claim to being the single weirdest event in recent parliamentary history. This was three solid hours of bewildering excuses, recriminations and non sequiturs.
At one point, Alan Yentob – chairman of Kids Company’s trustees, as well as a senior BBC executive – accused a 75-year-old widow of plaguing him with “abusive limericks”. Sadly he didn’t recite them. Perhaps he’s saving that for an episode of Imagine.
In August, the children’s charity Kids Company was dissolved following a loss of funding, claims of financial mismanagement, and allegations of sexual abuse. This morning, MPs interrogated Ms Batmanghelidjh and Mr Yentob.

It was chaos from the start. The kaleidoscopically flamboyant Ms Batmanghelidjh – looking more than ever like a pile of Aladdin’s laundry – seemed incapable of giving a straight answer. Paul Flynn (Lab, Newport West) snapped that her replies were “verbal ectoplasm”. Mr Jenkin asked whether it was true that Kids Company routinely handed teenagers cash in brown envelopes. In the space of six seconds, Ms Batmanghelidjh said this was “a myth” and “not a myth”.
She claimed Kids Company had been “intensely inspected”, but proved unable to recall when its last inspection took place. Kate Hoey (Lab, Vauxhall) asked about a £580,000 tax bill. Ms Batmanghelidjh replied that the money had been “conceptualised”.
Mr Flynn asked how spending £150 of the charity’s funds on a pair of shoes was supposed to help ease a client’s mental health problems. Ms Batmanghelidjh said the “structure of that question” was “immensely disrespectful”, and anyway, the mentally ill needed shoes too. Yes, said Mr Flynn, but why did they need to cost £150? Ms Batmanghelidjh said she didn’t know where he was “getting that from” because “I don’t have any records”.

For some reason Mr Yentob kept putting his head in his hands. Perhaps he was just thinking deeply. Several times Ms Batmanghelidjh tried to place a reassuring hand on his arm. He would either ignore it, or move. Repeatedly she attempted to answer questions on his behalf; he, as calmly as he could, declined her assistance. MPs told her to be quiet. “I could be helpful!” trilled Ms Batmanghelidjh.
Disbelievingly Mr Flynn read out a Kids Company document claiming that if it was shut down, swathes of South London would “descend into savagery”. Mr Yentob insisted that this was “not a wild exaggeration”, because there had since been stabbings and a murder.
Mr Jenkin said he’d heard this was because local youths could no longer use Kids Company’s money to “pay their drug pushers”.
In August, when Ms Batmanghelidjh was interviewed on the Today programme about Kids Company’s collapse, Mr Yentob was inside the studio, looming over the producer. Had he been trying to cow his BBC underlings into going easy on her? Not at all, protested Mr Yentob: “I was just there to listen to what Camila said.”
If that was all Mr Yentob wanted, perhaps he might have considered switching on a radio.
How on earth did he get into this mess? And how on earth will he get out of it?

  • Camila Batmanghelidjh and Alan Yentob questioned in Parliament yesterday
  • Chairman Bernard Jenkin wanted to know about Kids Company's demise
  • MPs questioned the pair over allegations kids were given money for drugs
  • Batmanghelidjh beamed while Yentob cut a mediocre and uninspiring figure

Spending watchdog Kids Company

Post by willowthewisp on Thu Oct 29, 2015 1:21 pm

How was it possible to dupe £46 Million from so many highly educated people who seem to have such disregard for the taxpayers money, as long as it doesn't affect their pockets?
Note how dodgy Dave is out of the UK on EU matters with Norway, when figures released of Prime Minister over-riding his own advisers on funding of this Kids Company Charity, when will someone be accountable for their inactions?

BBC 'INSIDE STORY' DOCUMENTARY

Post by skyrocket on Thu Jan 28, 2016 10:58 am

BBC documentary entitled 'Camila's Kids Company - The Inside Story', to be aired on Wed 3 Feb at 9pm on BBC1.

Radio Times Review by:Alison Graham

Just over ten years ago, documentary-maker Lynn Alleway filmed Camila Batmanghelidjh for Tough Kids – Tough Love, which looked at her charity for underprivileged youngsters, Kids Company.

In that film, Batmanghelidjh, a colourful figure hugged and surrounded by children, spoke of her fundraising difficulties and of how she’d had to go to Downing Street to lobby the then prime minister Tony Blair: “I’ve written to [him] to say these groups of children are being completely ignored.”

More than a decade on, Alleway returns to Kids Company, but finds a very different story unfolding right in front of her. The charity is at the eye of a storm as a huge scandal breaks amid allegations of mismanagement and misspent money.

Alleway accompanies Batmanghelidjh as the Government calls for her to step down as chief executive. Then the unthinkable happens, and Kids Company closes.

About this programme

Film-maker Lynn Alleway documents the story behind the dramatic demise of one of Britain's best-known charities and the ultimate fall from grace of its founder Camila Batmanghelidjh. As the film begins, the charity teeters on the edge of insolvency, leading to allegations of mismanagement before the charity is finally forced to close. But what really happened to Kids Company?

Yentob's presence at the helm of the BBC and the Kids' Company charity has compromised anything that may be worthy imo.

The same UK Police force currently undertaking "Operation Grange" being unable to produce criminal charges after a prolonged investigation into the untimely disappearance of Madeleine McCann between 28 April 2007-3 May 2007 in her reported as missing/abducted from her holiday apartment, with no evidence of an intruder?

I watched the Kids Company documentary last night. I found Camila's attitude and general ethos outrageous. No wonder Yentob didn't want it screened or have I missed some intrigue as to why it has been screened now?

The doco is available on BBC iplayer.

Goodness me, it's all quiet on the Batmangelidjh/Yentob/government storm.

How many months has it been now?

Is there actually an inquiry?

Was it a storm in a teacup?

Have the media just not bothered to follow up and report?

the article says the charity 'had not met earlier conditions on grants.'

But there was 'no criminality'.

Explain that one please....
