A former adviser to David Cameron has been charged with making and possessing indecent images of children.
Patrick Rock, 63, was arrested at his home in London in February after Downing Street contacted police.
Today the National Crime Agency charged the ex-Whitehall adviser with three offences of making indecent images of children and one offence of possession of 59 indecent images of children.
The four charges cover offences said to have been committed between 31 July and 31 August 2013.
Mr Rock was deputy head of David Cameron's policy unit at the time of his arrest.
The prime minister has known Mr Rock since the late 1990s.
They worked together as special advisers.

Cameron went to the Algarve, Portugal for his holidays last year

Post by Tony Bennett on 27.06.14 20:00

Hmmm:

Cameron's Director of Communications, Andy Coulson: A CRIMINAL

Cameron's Deputy Head of Policy, Patrick Rock: Charged with possessing images of the sexual abuse of children

Cameron's horse-riding companion: Rebekah Brooks

Cameron's Deputy Director of Communications: CLARENCE MITCHELL

And he runs the country!

Where did Cameron go for his holidays last year? The Algarve, Portugal. Maybe he was not only looking for Madeleine there, but also for her abductor.

There is a simply lovely photo gallery here of Cameron's holiday snaps:

...it makes you positively proud to be British.

But look on the second photo, is that not the man with sunglasses sought by DCI Redwood, who might or might not be Madeleine's abductor, sitting at a dinner table near SamCam and Dave?

Where's Operation Grange's phone number when you need it...

Full statement from the National Crime Agency about David Cameron's former adviser Patrick Rock is here: http://bit.ly/1m4RrRD

Patrick Rock charged

On the authority of the CPS, the National Crime Agency has today charged Patrick Rock, 63, a former Whitehall adviser, with making indecent images of children and possession of 59 indecent images of children. He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 3 July.

The charges are:

- Three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child contrary to section 1(a) of the Protection of Children Act 1978, between 31 July 2013 and 31 August 2013

- One count of possession of indecent photographs of children contrary to Section 160 Criminal Justice Act 1988, between 31 July 2013 and 31 August 2013

The images have been assessed by NCA CEOP officers and CPS lawyers as meeting the definition of Level C.

Judith Reed, a senior lawyer with the CPS Organised Crime Division, said:

"The decision to prosecute has been taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors. We have determined that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest.

"May I remind all concerned that Mr Rock has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
