How much I love some of the people, I do not hope so either.

I guess I would have said the same 3 years ago.

Happy Anniversary Miraflores.

I think the way the McCanns (ab)used religion is as relevant as the way they used the media or social networking.

Cheers for that, lj.

I am fascinated by the religious background to this case.

This is a modern-day Mystery Play.

The Papal Visit had overshadowed, in my mind,  the significance of the visit to the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima.

No coincidence that our Father Hubbard is a member of the Society of Mary.

...but just how far does ecumenicalism go these days?

Gerry McCann's mother, nee Eileen Ferry, is originally from Templecrone, in the diocese of Raphoe, Donegal.

I do not believe the McCann couple are religious at all, at least not for a church.

Here is their shrine, and their religion.

A picture of their daughter at the side.  A holder for money in the center.

So it is actually Madeleine's great-grandmother that is from the area. Another sign, IMO, that the Irish connection could be milked for all it's worth, knowing that the Irish would be generous and sympathetic.

May 12th, 2007...

Outside the church of Our Lady of Light in Praia da Luz.

Gerry giving Bono a run for his money in the Holy Roller FT stakes.

Kate has a yellow gerbera daisy...

Meanwhile, at the Kerrytown shrine to Our Lady near Dungloe, mystical Joe Coleman is experiencing an apparition :

Mother Mary looked very young and pretty, about 35 years. She had a crown of roses on her head. She wore a white gown-dress no sleeves. She was barefoot, flowers on her feet were golden daisies. She will come back again. She will tell me when. I had a beautiful day at the rock. I talk with Mary every day.

Missbeetle. I feel as though I've stepped into a surreal world here. I don't know what point you are making with the Irish/Brazilian/Catholic/Flowers and colours of flowers stuff across a couple of topics.

I'm in no way undermining what you post, I simply can't see what you're getting at.

St Kate, St Gerry and St Madeleine...

Post by missbeetle on 22.06.14 23:53

You are right, Aquila, about the Mystery of Madeleine being a surreal world.

Sometimes seemingly minor details cast a new light on the players involved.

I thank those who pointed out the improbability of taking a baby out in a pram on a cool night to settle it down.

The yellow gerbera our serene St Kate is pictured holding on her missing daughter's birthday, brought to mind an odd comment in Joe Coleman's testimony

of his Dungloe visions... "Mother Mary looked very young and pretty, about 35 years".

I hadn't envisaged Our Lady as a 35-year-old before.

Shrine to Madeleine at home...

Crikey, Shibboleth, you may well be right.

To the left, a sunflower - associated with adoration and longevity.

Negative connotations are false appearance, haughtiness and unhappy love.

In the middle, that awful money-pot which looks like an urn.

To the right, an unreal picture of the family's missing eldest child.

Madeleine spelled out above a train.

A money train...?

My interpretations, anyhow.

I believe there are ashes in that soccer ball, which to my mind is an urn. I took a look on google pics and saw something similar. One can have an urn made to order, so it could well be a one of a kind. Personally, I dislike shrines, so perhaps am biased, but this one is a really horrible tacky display imo. Are those red things below the words Madeleine, are they light bulbs that possibly light up and flash at night, reminiscent of a one armed bandit?

Hha Snifferdog, no, they are the wheels of the train.
The urn is a Terramundi money pot. http://www.terramundi.co.uk/

Thank you Nina, Ack! Well in retrospect,
the money pot is the more fitting item for the shrine, taking all into consideration Madeleine was truly the moneypot for the McCanns imo.

big grin ha ha Snifferdog - well at least they have spelt her name right on the MacCamoola gravy train!
That display is just so awful - it's the money pot that's gets to me, it is just so inappropriate it's surreal. What were they thinking?

Unless of course that money pot was a treasured item of MBM's but I doubt that very much - you wouldn't let a three year old have a china pot to play with surely, it would be smashed within minutes and you couldn't put in on a shelf out of reach as they would nag until it was given to them. In my experience all attractive china/breakable things are packed away up in the loft for the forseeable with small children. A bit bizarre to say the least.

Or as someone else just pointed out on another thread/subject -  a sick joke.

All in my own opinion, nothing stated as fact.
