Apologies in advance for the awful translation but you can get the gist of this rather INTERESTING (if true) article.

"
He was seen in the early morning hours by a resident, after the child had disappeared, "stuck in drink", the search for the daughter in the streets of Praia da Luz.

By Rui Pando Gomes - Morning Post

Gerry McCann, father of Maddie, was seen by an inhabitant of Praia da Luz, Lagos, on the night that the girl disappeared, drunk and with a bottle of wine, the search for the child through the streets." The father went to the one in the morning with a bottle of wine in hand and stuck in drink", recalls the CM Cândido Furtado. It was precisely the noise that came from the street that the agreed. "He walked the shouting by girl at the foot of my door and I asked-

-Him 'what noise is this?' He said 'girl, girl, although, although' ," says Candido Furtado, farmer and former fisherman, who recommended then to the British who had called the police. Then, was fishing with a friend, but it does not have any doubts that Gerry McCann was drunk. "everyone sees just by cycling", he explains. AND also are you sure that it was the father of Maddie: "I am sure. He said that the girl had disappeared. I didn't know him, but then I saw it on television," adds the homem.Recorde -if that on the night of May 3, 2007 parents were having dinner with friends at the restaurant Tapas of Ocean Club when the English girl disappeared from the apartment 5A, of the tourist development. It was his mother, Kate, who gave the disappearance, when he left the table where all ate dinner by and was to see if everything was well in the house, around the 21h00.No apartment, in addition to the girl, were still asleep the two twin brothers, who, on this night, not agreed - even with the great noise that is generated, with the people entering and leaving the apartment, after the girl have desaparecido.Por coincidence, Candido Furtado is homemade to a land that has been the target of searches on the part of Scotland Yard, over the past two weeks, in Praia da Luz. Your guess or mine UltimaThule ... ? They might have some NZ left from "aperitif" time or it might have been one grabbed from the Tapas table, which could have been Portuguese.

Snipped from a post on another thread.....The officers (GNR) claimed that the McCann's and their seven British friends had been difficult to deal with because they had been drinking." They were upset, panicking, wide-eyed, the usual, but there was something else. The were scared- not the usual scared, they were jumpy, nervous. It wasn't normal. None of it was normal", said an officer.

"They'd all been drinking, they weren't falling over but it was hard dealing with them".

Seems like they were all totally p****d. to me.

Probably a case of mistaken identity. I doubt he was going around with a bottle in his hand. That was probably just a Brit tourist who got involved in the searching.

I have to agree , its was unlikely to be gerry assisting in the search for his daughter , though it may have been him searching frantically for someone with a corkscrew .
