Strikes me that he can't be that much in cahoots with TB to send that letter, no way would they have backed that IMO

To me he sounded supportive of the Mcversion of events of 3rd May.

Who ever has said he's in cahoots with TB?
It's clear that he believes the whole bundle of less than fragrant stuff in its entirety.

The Edmonds Family...
Hmmm... Philip looks no stranger to the ol' hair dye.
I believe his brother Richard is a VP at the New York branch of Stemcor...
...and that this David Edmonds is his brother :
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Philip's ex-wife I think is from Amsterdam - though I could well be wrong.
His Aunty Margaret shares the same middle name with Amelie - 'Eve'.
I'm curious as to which method Philip Edmonds replied to Tony - by post or by email?

I have found nothing to confirm that Philip Edmonds is related to either David or Richard.
Will the answer to your e-mail or letter question, MissBeetle, provide the key that leads to solving of this whole mystery?

Hmmm... I shouldn't think so, but I ponder, nonetheless...
I'm surprised Philip Edmonds replied to Tony at length, rather than by a courteous dismissal via his secretary.
His reply seems more elaborate than would be necessary -
- I wonder if it had been 'pre-approved' by Clarence?

"Mike and Liz Atwood from Birmingham and their three children – Toby, 12, Lucy, nine, and four-year-old Tom – were among the few who braved the pool during the brief spells when the monsoon-like rains ceased. The family has holidayed in Praia da Luz many times and though Madeleine’s disappearance disturbed them, they have opted to return each year. "
The article is here, but the photo of the Atwood family has been removed:

Re: Philip Edmonds, Deputy Chairman of Stemcor, and nephew of Lady Margaret Hodge - Pictures of Madeleine, and the letters between Tony Bennett & Philip Edmonds in 2011
I have been asked by email today, once again, about my brief exchange of letters with Philip Edmonds, a Mark Warner guest who was present in Praia da Luz the same week as the McCanns and the Tapas 7.missbeetle wrote:Philip Edmonds' ex-wife I think is from Amsterdam - though I could well be wrong.
His Auntie Margaret [now Lady Margaret Hodge] shares the same middle name with Amelie - 'Eve'.
I'm curious as to which method Philip Edmonds used to reply to Tony - by post or by email?
To settle some outstanding queries about my correspondence and the background to it, I will reproduce my letter to him dated 22 July 2011, which was sent by post to the offices of STEMCOR in London and Switzerland, and his email back to me dated 16 August 2011.
Here are the salient facts:
1 Philip Edmonds took his three sons, aged 6, 7 and 8 on holiday with him to Praia da Luz for the week 28 April to 5 May 207. I believe it was also booked via Mark Warner. It is thought he may have been separated or divorced from his wife at this time.
2 He is a member of the extremely wealthy Oppenheimer family, as is his aunt, the controversial Labour Party grandee Lady Margaret Hodge, who was the Chairman of the Islington Council Social Services Committee at the height of the Islington Children's Homes child abuse scandal.
3 Philip Edmonds is a member of the Oppenheimer family because his father married Hannah, the elders of five children of the Hans Oppeneimer.
4 At the time of his Praia da Luz holiday, Edmonds was (and I believe still is) a Director of one of the world's biggest steel companies, STEMCOR, and its Deputy Chairman.
5 He became of interest to Madeleine McCann forums because a newspaper report that said that Madeleine had been photographed with his three children in the play area of the Ocean Club on Thursday 3 May 2007, the day Madeleine was reported missing. It was one of the many alleged 'proofs' that Madeleine was alive that day.
6 We discussed it on the forum in early 2011. Nobody on the forum could explain why this alleged photograph of Madeleine had ever been produced, especially as we don't have any other photo of her definitely taken after Sunday 29 April. So I wrote to Philip Edmonds: here is my letter and his reply:

Dear Mr Edmonds,
re: Madeleine McCann
I have been researching the Madeleine McCann case in depth since September 2007, from the point of view of someone who is sceptical about the parents’ account of events.
I have obtained your name and details simply by examining many of the thousands of documents about the case released by the Portuguese Police and made public during 2008, which include lists of guests staying at the Ocean Club and/or with Mark Warners during the week the McCanns were there, 28 April to 5 May 2007. There is also amongst the documents released by the police a statement by a Stephen Carpenter, who now lives in Stevenage, who says that he spoke to a man who had taken three young boys with him on the evening Madeleine disappeared, and by a process of elimination we believe that must be you, as you are the only guest with three boys recorded as being present that week.
One matter I have looked at especially, and have written about, is the controversial nature of many of the reported ‘sightings’ of Madeleine McCann on Thursday 3 May, the day she was reported missing. One of many curious features about the case is that only two photographs of Madeleine at Praia da Luz that week have ever surfaced. One was a photo of her playing tennis sometime earlier in the week, apparently taken by another parent. The other is the famous ‘last photo’ taken by Dr Kate McCann, one that was not produced for the public to see until after Dr Gerald McCann returned to England for a short visit in late May.
I have posted analyses on publicly-viewable forums querying the eight claimed 'sightings' of Madeleine on 3 May 2007. Clearly any photos of Madeleine alive on that day (or indeed on any other days of the week) would serve to dispel the doubts myself and others have entertained about the events of 3 May.
I am wondering therefore if you would kindly be able to tell me whether you or any member of your family had any contact with the McCanns and their children on Thursday 3 May, and also whether you have any photographs of Madeleine taken on that specific day.
I understand from the released files that you were living in Switzerland at the time Madeleine was reported missing but you may now be living in the U.K., hence I have sent this letter to Stemcor/Uldy Street SA both in Switzerland and in London.
I hope you may be able to help and look forward to hearing from you.
My contact details are above.
Yours sincerely,
Anthony Bennett

Dear Mr Bennett,
I am in receipt of your letter of 22 July regarding Madeleine McCann. I am sure you would appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to comment too much, as we do not know each other, and I have no idea what your connection to the case is. However, I would also not want further conspiracy theories to fester by simply ignoring your letter.
Therefore, I can confirm that whatever information I had (including some photos of my sons taken on the day Madeleine disappeared, which showed her in the background) was passed both to the police and to the McCanns at the time. Having been in Portugal at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance and seen all of the events first hand, there is not one shred of doubt in my mind that the events as reported were correct. In fact one of the most terrible parts of this tragedy is that there are people out there who are questioning this, just adding further to the nightmare that the McCann family have suffered. I cannot imagine anything crueller.
I’m afraid I won’t enter into further correspondence on this matter with you.
Yours sincerely,
Philip Edmonds

Who was in the photo?
KimHager - that could be areally important point. Philip Edmonds took a picture of who he believed to be Madeleine. A police officer compares it with a genuine picture of Madeleine and thinks PE has made a mistake...and dismisses it...kimHager wrote:Perhaps it wasn't Maddy so the police dismissed it as false?

I'm afraid that that explanation simply doesn't fit the facts.worriedmum wrote:KimHager - that could be areally important point. Philip Edmonds took a picture of who he believed to be Madeleine. Let's recall that this claim about Madeleine being seen on a photograph taken by Edmonds was placed in the media by a well-placed source - and we all know by now who that is likely to be. Whoever the source was must have checked with Edmonds that such a photograph existed...
...or did he? Could the entire story about the photograph just be yet one more fabrication to help move the aductioon narrative along still furher - and entrench it in the minds of the majority of the British public?
Then again, what evidence do we have that Edmonds did actually pass any photo to the police? Go back to Blue Bag's OP and he questions this - for the very good reason that there's no reference to it in the files.
And then consider this claim of Edmonds (from his letter):
"Having been in Portugal at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance and seen all of the events first hand, there is not one shred of doubt in my mind that the events as reported were correct."
What? Seen 'all' the events?
'First-hand'?
'Not one shred of doubt'?
'All the reports are correct'??!!
Has he read, just to give one example, the accounts of Kate McCann and David Payne of an alleged meeting between them at around 6.30pm on 3 May, and considered the 20 contradictions between them?

Don't forget, it was a good bit of sleuthing (not by me) on CMOMM, six years back, that deduced that Philip Edmonds was the bloke being talked about in the newspaper article, which only referred to 'a man on holiday with his three boys'.
Someone (might have been 'Stella'/'StellabyStarlight', she was very good at this sort of thing) then went to work to deduce who that could be...and only one person matched that description - Philip Edmonds.
Then others (again not me) went to work and established...his exalted position in international steel company Stemcor...and his being the nephew of Lady Margaret Hodge and a member of the great Oppenheimer dynasty.
Then I dug out the Stemcor addresses and wrote the letter.
You are dead right, he could have thrown my letter in the waste paper basket and that would have been that.
I think it's clear from his letter that Edmonds was saying (though he didn't mean to)...

"I would also not want further conspiracy theories to fester by simply ignoring your letter."
That indicates to me that he'd been following the case, how else would he know about conspiracy theories? What would it matter to him anyway - a well connected man of business surely has more pressing issues to occupy his mind than the story of a couple of non-entities who were careless enough to lose one of their children.
Plus: "I can confirm that whatever information I had (including some photos of my sons taken on the day Madeleine disappeared, which showed her in the background) was passed both to the police and to the McCanns at the time".
Was passed both to the police and to the McCanns at the time? What time - before or after he left Praia da Luz on Friday 4th May? Why would it occur to him, merely holidaying with his children, that he might/would/did have photographs of his children with Madeleine in the background taken on the day she disappeared? Why would it occur to him to pass photographs to the police and the McCanns at the time? Ostensibly, if their story is to believed, the McCanns knew that Madeleine was around so why would they need photographic evidence of that?
Where are the photographs? Why is this potentially vital information not featured anywhere in the PJ files - not even his name? Why wasn't he interviewed as a witness having taken a pivotal role upon himself? The Foster family information is in the files, they volunteered photographic footage - why not this bloke?

He didn't need to reply to you, he could have ignored your communication. Why did he reply if not to say those few incriminating words and then conclude with a toss of the head "I'm afraid I won't enter into further correspondence on this matter with you".

Re: Philip Edmonds, Deputy Chairman of Stemcor, and nephew of Lady Margaret Hodge - Pictures of Madeleine, and the letters between Tony Bennett & Philip Edmonds in 2011
Some research I did a few years ago on Philip Edmonds' family background:
---------------
One of the Ocean Club guests, one Philip Martin Edwards, has a fascinating family history. Born on 31 August 1962 according to his entry on Geni.Com, he married Reina Hazenberg and they have three boys, all of whom were out with Philip in Praia da Luz the week the McCanns were there. But not his wife Reina, so it seems.
Visit the website of Stemcor.com, the world's largest steel company, with a turnover measured in billions, and Philip's name again comes up as one of the Board of Directors.
How did Philip Edmonds get so far? A clue is apparent from the same Stemcor.com website: Philip’s Uncle Ralph - Ralph Oppenheimer - is also on the Stemcor Board.
Indeed, Stemcor, as a brief internet search reveals, is an Oppenheimer family business.
All this has come about because Philip's father, Herbert Edmonds, made a wise choice in marrying into the Oppenheimer family. Hannah was the eldest of five children of Hans Oppenheimer and his wife Lisbeth Hollitscher, an Austrian Jewess. Hans was born in Stuttgart, but fled to Alexandria in the mid-1930s, as Hitler's anti-Semitic Nazi regime was stepping up its persecution of Jews, in the lead-up to World War II.
His first four children, including Hannah, were all born in Alexandria, Egypt.
His third child is possibly of most interest to us here in Britain; she was born Margaret Eve Oppenheimer, on 8 September 1944.
In the 1980s, she did two things that made her famous (or infamous). She married Sir Henry Hodge, a left-wing lawyer, and became known as Margaret Hodge. And she became a prominent Labour Councillor in left-wing Islington, where she became notorious for covering up extensive child abuse in what became known as the 'Islington Children's Home Scandal', fully exposed in the 1990s (there's a lot about this on the internet).
In 2003, despite this appalling record, Prime Minister Tony Blair made her Britain's first-ever 'Minister for Children'!
Lady Hodge inherited a substantial slice of the Oppenheimer fortune, and is one of Britain's wealthiest women; despite that, she claimed excessive Parliamentary expenses from us, the British taxpayers.
Philip Edmonds’ father- and mother-in-law aged 81 and 74 respectively live in Bromley, Kent. Hannah's father Hans was the son of Salomon Oppenheimer, born 1871 in Ohringen, west Germany, and in turn Salomon is the son of Abraham Oppenheimer, who in turn was the son of another Abraham Oppenheimer, from one of the many branches of this powerful family.
Edmonds is not an English name, it's an anglicised version of the German Emsheimer. Philip Edmonds' father, Herbert Emsheimer, was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1930, and the family changed their name to Edmonds on arriving in England.
Why Philip Edmonds should choose Praia da Luz as his choice of holiday venue for the week 28 April to 5 May 2007 is not known.

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

If PÉ saw events first hand, when was this ?
And how?
Did he report what he " saw" to the PJ?
Did he search for Madeleine, when did he search for Madeleine? On the plane or off, as didn't he fly out of PDL pronto?

If PE gave a photograph of his sons to "Police" which showed Maddie in the background, then why does this photo not appear in the PJ files ??
Which police did he give it to ?
A A PJ Officer
B British Police Officer
C Mccann Pretendy Police

Perhaps the Met could spend some of the extra cash on investigating Phillip & Margaret.
Why was this very wealthy man on holiday at this low cost resort?
Why did he suddendly cut his holiday short?
What does Margaret Hodge know?
When will we see all the photos from the McCanns camera's?
How does the public put pressure on the Met to interview, Phillip, Margaret & the McCanns?

According to guest sheets that have been produced, the Edmund's were always going to leave early. if I remember correctly it was kind of an open ended arrangement outwith Mark Warner's flight bookings.idon'tbelieveit wrote:Perhaps the Met could spend some of the extra cash on investigating Phillip & Margaret.
