I don't think its hyperbole to say that that was one of the most momentous games in the history of the modern game. I'm so glad I watched it

And while the emphasis is quite rightly on the total collapse of Brazil, I think a quick word for Germany is also in order. They play what is, essentially, an "English" game but the difference between them and us is that they are a totally united team of utterly selfless hard working players that are a joy to watch whereas we're a disunited group of selfish individuals with more attitude than skill.

Germany's win

Post by Pyewacket on 09.07.14 0:14

Went to bookies this morning and put a bet on it being a Germany v Netherlands final.....so far so good !! C'mon Holland, hope you make me some money, to make up for the money I lost on Cavendish crashing out of the TdF in Harrogate.

Brazil got this far on a tide of emotion a fair bit of luck and some cheating refs with a dodgy penalty or two.

Pleased to see the well organised and hard working Germans win. They have the best manager, pity his table manners aren 't so good but i suppose you can't have everything.

Am having sleepless night about it!  Last time that happened NL  lost on a dodgy decision by the ref as I recall.

Still, as long as we get into the final!  Then we'll see - glad you explained  Brazil's wins so far, Lionel.

Is it possible that the Germans have played a long  game?  Cruising through the early matches only to step up  the pace in the semi and the final?

Hoping to see a similar result for the Netherlands tonight - I have my shirt on already yes

I think Argentina will win the Cup.   Messi will perform on the night as he hasn't been much cop thus far.

Best player of the tournament goes to Robben in my book.   Great work ethic and always wants the ball.

Agree about the England players and there was criticism in some of the papers because some of the players were posting selfies sunning themselves with their WAG/family enjoying the sun on their holidays.   Says it all really.

Sorry about that RB! Must saythe Germans were lucky to get Brazil, if we'd been able to change keepers again and if Persie had been fit it would have gone our way.

i'm not keen on the direct elimination system in any sport as the luck of the draw decides a lot imo.

There must be a way to have a final pool of four. In this case, I think NL would have beaten Argentina and Brasil and so would Germany.
In any case it should have been Germany - NL in the final both excellent teams and we would have had a treat imo.

Now I want Argentina to win, to justify our defeat... winkwink

I don't think my heart would survive another NL Germany. I remember the one way back when I was in Holland for a bit, in a big city the world was absolutely silent.
