At one mile a 6 ft (1.82 m) human being appears to be around 1/8 inch ((0.3 cm) high
A mile out to sea is a VERY long way.

Who are the Gorrods..... Can't see them in the PJ files..
James and Charlotte Gorrod from Exeter. Friends of JT and RO who just happened to be on holiday in PDL also.
Cheers Hicks.

Not heard of them to be honest. Interesting.

With Mark Warner you can pick up a wetsuit / life vest / harnesses etc at the same time you borrow a boat or any equipment. There is no hiring as such - you just have to give your room number. As for experience  - MW do taster lessons in the morning - however you do not have to prove you can sail with a certificate or the like. The cordoned off bit is in relatively shallow water. If its obvious you cannot sail and are having difficulties staff will come out and rescue you - if need be they will sail the boat back. I've capsized many times - a speed boat will come across and check you are ok - if they can see you are able to right the boat they will leave you to it. Though you definitely would not be able to sail a mile out to sea.

Re the Exeter connection -  there was the man supposedly taking a video of his daughter playing tennis courts. ROB explains in his rog:

"And this chap who, who, erm, whose name is in my original statement, I’m afraid I’ve forgotten what it was, erm, but he, as I say, he lives in Southampton, he was there with his wife and a young kid and, erm, and had lived in Exeter about fifteen years before, which was one of the conversations we had, erm, at that point.”

Hypothetically to load a boat with rocks would be suspicious. But you might want to go on a scouting trip to look for rocks undersea which could be loaded on to a boat.

Seems all the Tapas 9 have trouble with distance measurements.

I gather this topic is or was meant to determine if a body could be disposed of this way. Seems totally impossible to me without being noticed  - as you say, can't go a mile out, it's shallow water.
Add to that that many will be gazing out over the ocean, after all they've booked  a beach resort. It has once again shown up the many inconsistencies in the statements and reports.
Imo the only conclusion  we can draw from all the above is that they were probably doing something else at the time.

PeterMac has pointed out that disposal at sea is very risky. It was around that area that the 'man who never was' was put in the sea, tides brought him to exactly the area they calculated.
Fishermen trawling in the vicinity would be another hazard.
Besides, Ms Healy was very keen on the boat theory, promoting it in the early days. Even giving us the name of the boat and getting a psychic to back her up. 8th May.
Looking West- if the McCanns tell me to look west, I'll make a 180 degree turn, plenty of old mineshafts, rough terrain, isolated barns/farms... And imo this theory doesn't take the finds at the barn and a call between ROB and GM into account on the 10th June which GM said was 2 km distance but the antenna put at 24 km from PdL.
Which might be the same area where he made a curious detour at the end of July - Villa de Bispo?

In this whole saga the only thing we have learned about which was can be sure is . . .
That whatever any of them say can be ignored.

Or the diametrically opposite considered. Or the microscopic grain of. truth contained therein sieved out in the manner of a gold panner.

To add to my previous post:

Joanna Morais - mccannfiles.com (snipped - comment on visit to Lisbon for libel trial in 2009).
[....]
It was very clear heard, at the Courthouse door, the failed act of Kate saying that Maddie was entitled to a decent funeral, «...Madeleine has the right to a proper...uhm... a... a proper ... a proper... search »

God be praised! Where (in this context) the adjective «proper» applies to the noun «search»?!? Are there, by chance, «fitting searches», «decent searches», «due searches »....??????????

If she had hesitated in the adjective «right», «accurate», etc…, before saying 'search', it would be different, especially since she was speaking fluently. She was not looking for an exact adjective to define an idea or concept.

Now, PROPER ??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, later in Aldeia da Luz, she had another slip, stating that it was THERE where she felt closer to Maddie.

[..]

Lisbon, December 12, 2009

Perhaps if the location of the barn, the location of that phonecall some 24 km from PdL , the route taken by Gerry on his detour and Aldeia da Luz are found to be in the same area one might find something?

It's OK, I just read on another thread that apparently James Gorrod is a sailing instructor....

Hmm I think I may have found the James Gorrod & Russell O Brian link.

When a young man Ralph Eveleight left the shores of the UK with his friend and his Mother, Ralph's intention was to set up a surfing club with his friend, I believe this surfing club may have its roots in Lagos, not far from where the Evelieghts live.

Apparently Jim Gorrod solicitor for Foot Ansteys, Exeter, says, he spent his whole life overlooking the sea and began sailing at 5 and most of his spare time from then in a boat, he is also a member of SAS (Surfers Against Sewage org) an environmental charity protecting UK's OCEAN WAVES.

One Guy in the same club Dr Tony Butt has a PHD in OCEANOGRAPHY and lives most of the time on North coast in Spain and makes one long haul journey to Capetown, South Africa each year to spend the Southern winter there, so they appear to be an International club.

Russell O Brian is a specialist in OCEANOGRAPHY and lives not far from Jim Gorrod.

There appears to be at least 4 links between these men,1. All had close links to McCanns, 2.Surfing which they share a link to Murat's family, 3. Short living distance of each other in UK, 4. All in close proximity to the McCann family when Maddie disappeared.

Forgot to add Jim Gorrod says he is a qualified sailing instructor.

Didn't Matt Oldfield and Russell O Brian go sailing together on last but one day of the Ocean Club Holiday, wonder who else went with them?

Gorrod Info can be found on Surfers Against Sewage web site.

Good to see you again, Clay. I think "our" Russell is O Brien, with an E, and he is a medical doctor, mainly performing research IIRC.
