I wonder how this would apply to this case. Max Clifford's wife filed for divorce iirc and secured assets.

I am surprised he got off so lightly, compared to Max Clifford on same number of charges.

There is already a complaint submitted to the Attorney General (which has to be looked at - it only needs one complaint) about the light sentence.

Interesting.

I think Rolf's boomerang is coming back.

GOOD !

Likely to end up in a repeat of Stuart Hall then ie having his sentence doubled ?

Still not enough IMO as even then he will out in not more than a handful of years later.

Don't understand why some sentences are to be concurrent, I think they all should be consecutive.
And I think it is in the public interest to prosecute him for being in posession of child porn. How can it not be? To not do so, is like giving abusers a discount, the more crimes they commit.

Answer to the second point.
Because the sentence for possession of the indecent images is likely to be very much less than the 5 years and 9 months he already has
The stuff is there on the internet, (and downloading itself into cache and cookies every time anyone looks for apparently innocent things)
And since it is all part of the same pattern of behaviour it could only concurrent.
So - a waste of time and public money to do so
So - not in the public interest.

Edited to add

He is 84. He may well have received a FULL LIFE Sentence. You will remain in prison until you DIE.
We no longer do that for most murderers and only for a very few terrorists . . .

Just a thought !

PeterMac - yes, I accept your points.
I just think that if it can be proven that someone has downloaded those images wilfully, then they should be prosecuted. It seems to ignore the fact the there are children suffering for someone's sick interests. However, okay, if the sentence would only be concurrent, then it may not make much sense.

I remember watching a documentary about Pedro Lopez; regardless of the number of really evil murders he'd committed, the maximum sentence he could receive was something like 16 or 20 years. He himself said he'd killed around 300, but I think he was tried on 50 odd - the number of bodies found. So - do one, get 49 free. The law most certainly can be an ass.

Who would've arranged Rolf's heavies?

Whose bright idea was it to hire Mr Pink Shirt, right hand side?

I don't know if even I could be seen in public with him and his deconstructed tweeds.

Lots of shiny heads and dodgy facial hair arrangements...

I can't believe anyone would seriously pay good money for the rental of these geezers.

Despite the appalling consequences of his crimes, the judge said the 84-year-old TV entertainer had shown no remorse.
Even as the impact statements were read out he leant back in his chair and nonchalantly stretched out his arms.

He had travelled part of the way to court on a boat from his home where he was seen kissing and joking with friends.

He appeared quite relaxed about the sentencing. Is it possible that he knows he won't spend long inside because of his connections?

It's more likely he's an arrogant bastard to the end imo.

The boat (across the river styx) the kisses to a friend, the daughter in tow, the multi-coloured small suitcase, the multi-coloured tie, the blobby bouncers/bodyguards. All his swan song.

I hope no-one gives him a pen and paper in prison. He'll write a book.

That sort of character would fit with the assaults IMO. He never saw anything wrong in what he did. The letter he wrote to the victims father seemed to show that too, no inkling of the victim feeling pressured or harmed in anyway. Weird.

Re: Rolf Harris Trial starts Today

Post by Research_Reader on 05.07.14 20:41

I got more of the impression that Rolf was a man who in private was deeply depressed and racked with guilt. Probably managed to lie to himself that his behaviour wasn't that bad, but over time the contradiction in his character became clear to him.

He really doesn't seem in the same league of evil as Savile - despite the desperation of the tabloids in trying to portray him that way. I also think the tabloids have been a bit sneaky in the way they are reporting his web activity. I wouldn't be surprised if many casual readers were left with the impression that he was someone who deliberately searched for child abuse images, and stored a 'stash' of them on his computer. When in fact, if you read more carefully, you see that he had performed searches for 'Babes' and 'Kind girls' and then clicked around through a range of images, the trace of which was automatically saved on his computer. Some of these images were of things like topless young women. The defence lawyers said they got proof from the website owners that these women were above legal age. The prosecuting side didn't have time to double-check this proof before the main trial, so consideration of it was put on hold.

This is perhaps dodgy and does build a picture of him, but its not as bad as those who deliberately search out and hoard actual child abuse images.

None of this is to defend him, but just to try to get the facts straight.

I am as disturbed as anyone by the growing allegations of widespread paedophilia in the upper echelons of the establishment. I pray that the people involved in politics etc get exposed and brought to justice.
