MADELEINE McCann’s mum yesterday admitted the Portuguese police’s refusal to join forces with Brit detectives to find her daughter is “incredibly distressing”.

Kate, 46, appealed for police from both countries to speed up the search by forming a joint invest- igation team.

She said the current situation in which Met Police have to send formal letters to their Portuguese counterparts asking them to carry out inquiries on their behalf was causing “unnecessary delays and barriers”.

Kate McCann, mother of Madeleine wrote:“Working together is key to the progress of the investigation and a joint team could provide a more streamlined way of working”

Kate spoke before taking part in a vigil with friends and neighbours in Rothley, Leics, yesterday to pray for Madeleine’s safe return – seven years after she vanished from a holiday apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.

She said: “Working together is key to the progress of the investigation and a joint team could provide a more streamlined way of working with less bureaucracy.

“It may be seven years since we last saw Madeleine but the passing of further weeks and months as a result of unnecessary delays and barriers are not only frustrating, they are incredibly distressing.”

It is the first time the McCanns have criticised the Portuguese police since forces from both nations launched separate fresh inquiries last year.

'Furious'. Seems to be Kate's default state of mind - the book uses the words 'fury, furious' more often than one might expect.

Reminds me about a verse on ants which ends: 'Would you be calm and placid, if you were full of formic acid?'

The Portuguese police know exactly what happened, and have known from day 2.
They have committed it to paper on several occasions, and it has been accepted by their entire Chain of Command and by the Public Prosecutor
Why would they play SY's and McMitchell's silly games looking for pot-bellied-smellyman, Cape Verde-dead-man, and the rest.
They have better things to do.

When the original Portuguese investigation was open and they were in need of assistance from the UK there was little co-operation from the UK authorities or the McCanns themselves.

1. Kate refused to answer 48 questions
2. The tapas 9 refused to do a reconstruction
3. The McCanns ran a private investigation (using corrupt PI's) alongside the official one
4. Against the advice of the PJ, the McCanns contacted the media and publicised Madeleines' eye defect
5. The tapas 9 failed to clear up all the contradictions in their statements

6. The UK government interfered from the start
7. Gordon Brown, without a shred of evidence, insisted that the case be treated as abduction
8. Gordon Brown Met with Portuguese Prime Minister, Jose Socrates to discuss the case.
9. Gordon Brown later had Goncalo Amaral removed from the case
10. Gordon Brown put pressure on the Portuguese authorities to close the case
11. UK authorities failed to co-operate & withheld medical records, bank & credit card statements
12. Leicestershire police withheld vital documents such as the Gaspar statement for 6 months
13. Leicestershire police formed a very cosy relationship with the McCanns and their friends

14. Private investigators deliberately diverted the case into Morocco to cause confusion
15. PI, Antonio Giminez was accused of paying people to say that they saw Madeleine
16. The Portuguese police were sent on a number of wild goose chases by stories created by the McCanns PI's

I think that we can safely say that the McCanns, their dodgy PI's, the British police, and UK authorities have not co-operated with the Portuguese Police, in fact they all hindered the investigation.

Can someone now give me just one good reason why the Portuguese Police should co-operate or work alongside any UK investigation?

Gordon Brown was on the news last night - he's emerged from his hibernation and is apparently now really concerned about child abduction in Nigeria and the necessity for foreign aid to be pumped into the country.

As for giving one good reason why the Portuguese Police should co-operate with a UK investigation......I think it's all been said.

Yes, despite her book going through editors and a team of lawyers it clearly shows two of Kate's main personality traits - she is extremely self-centered and appears to care about no-one but herself, and she is filled with feelings of hate towards people who threaten her. After I finished that book, I was left wondering anew what exactly had happened to Madeleine.

Excellent post - team this with all the nasty quips she's made about everyone who questions their abduction theory and put it on the front pages of the MSM. Oh and don't forget to place alongside it the picture of her as the supposedly innocent victim.

Translated, Kate is saying the Portuguese police will not waste anymore time and resources on suspects that have long been ruled out of the case or go on any more wild goose chases suggested by the parents and their lawyers.
