Praia da Luz, near Lagos, is again being searched by the Judicial Police. This time the [suspect] is the former driver of the resort where the McCanns were staying with their children in May 2007.

According to the Daily News , the former driver of the minibus at The Ocean Club , who was about 40 years of age. After the incident, the man, single, left the project, worked in a bar and is unemployed at this time.

" They've been here a few days ago , three individuals who identified themselves as being of the Judicial Police and wanted to know where a man who worked in the company The Ocean Club when Maddie disappeared resides . At the time used to transport tourists from Faro airport to the apartments of the Club in Praia da Luz Then at the end of the holidays, took customers to the airport to return to their respective countries . He was accustomed to always use the phone , " an inhabitant of Praia da Luz told Daily News

Described as " quiet and polite," the man gave a new presence of PJ in Praia da Luz , a few days after four British investigators from Scotland Yard were in a meeting in Faro .

On the table of the meeting , which are present Cramo Mota , responsible for the Board of Southern PJ , and Ana Paula Rito , the coordinator of the Criminal Investigation Department in Portimão , was the request of the Portuguese police cooperation for the realization of several attempts .

Gee, remarkable: a driver charged with picking up passengers from an airport USING A TELEPHONE!!

Who ever would have thought of that?!

Why would a supposedly 'ordinary' inhabitant of Luz mention the phone at all; it isn't the sort of detail people usually think of when describing another person, because it's such a normal thing to do.

Perhaps police are not so much interested in phonecalls he might have made. Perhaps they're more interested in the suggestion that he may have driven the McCanns and other Tapas members from Faro Airport to PDL when they arrived. He may be a witness to certain conversations, behaviours, etc., and may be able to establish how Madeleine was treated during the trip, whether there were tensions with the parents, issues with the child, etc. Leaving no stone unturned, as it were.

Even more specifically perhaps he might be able to remember their luggage. Did they, for instance, have a certain blue bag with them when they arrived....? And what clothes were each of the party wearing? And how long was Madeleine's hair, for instance?

And these are Portuguese travellers / gypsies.
The sort who remain in the same place for at least 7 years.
And the sort who keep abducted children with distinctive eye defects in the same place, within 15 minutes / miles/ kilometres ( depending on which paper you read)
on the encampment, and keep her there through the largest and most well publicised search the world has ever experienced.
And never need to take her to a doctor, dentist, school, creche . .

Perhaps, after a lot of MW staff were 'dismissed' (through absolutely no fault of their own, even after they gave up their time to 'actually' search for a 'missing' child, which the 'missing' childs own parents, remarkedly, didn't do ) due to the McCann 'mystery' in 2007, the 'dismissed' staff took up residency in the near by gypsy encampment.

Have MW issued the libel writ yet against the UK Media, and possibly the Met, for possible 'reputational damage' to their brand?

‘The man was assigned as a driver, in order to assure the transport of tourists between Faro airport and the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz, in May of 2007. He drove a minibus and spoke often on his mobile phone. Under the scope of the English investigation he was considered as a “person of interest”. The English detectives requested for the Judiciary Police to locate him, the PJ inspectors went to Praia da Luz to search for him. They understood that he no longer worked for the Ocean Club, that he is unemployed and nothing relevant was found.

The PJ work on the field, in Praia da Luz, took place several months ago and was one of the investigative steps in the first letter rogatory that arrived in Portugal during the last summer, it is part of the English process and has nothing to do with the PJ investigation under the purview of the Public Ministry of Portimão. It also has nothing to do with the regular meeting that once again brought, last Tuesday to Faro, four Scotland Yard detectives. Meeting which was held in order to clarify doubts relative to the first letter rogatory and to make a rundown of the judicial cooperation between the police authorities of the two countries.

Can we place any more credence to these reports than those that we are fed over here?

The initial newspaper report under this thread said:

Wouldn’t it be nice to get something, somewhere in this case that wasn’t contradictory!
