My thoughts ? ...4 conspicuous blokes deliver 2 small suitcases and talk for 3 hours ...no wonder its taken so long and cost so much getting to the bottom of this ( if indeed they have ) .

Four UK cops is the right number. Andy to blow the whistle and the other three to chase the burglars down the street and fell them with a rugby tackle.

Or maybe they're there for a sardine munching competition - the blue ties (x2) against the red ties (x2).

The team, headed by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who is leading the Met's investigation, reportedly met members of Portugal's Policia Judiciaria and prosecutors to request help and discuss leads identified by teams in the UK.

Not one of those four officers looks like they are about to retire.  What happened to the cops who were nearing retirement?

It is Faro Portia. I don't know where the meeting was but it looks like they're walking near the fire station.

Edit: I was right the first time. They're near the Hotel Eva. Interestingly the court house is near there.

They are enttiled to retire on full pension after just 30 years' police service. Start at 18, retire at 48! Ask PeterMac.

And they can keep their full pensions (plus large lump-sum on retirement) whilst being re-employed in plush jobs as civilian police officers (or as consultants, private investigators etc. etc.)

No wonder corrupt senior officers can 'persuade' junior officers to co-operate with their corrupt scheming [see Tom Harper's recent exposures of 'endemic police corruption' in The Independent, which has a separate thread on this forum].

If after retiring they might feel inclined to expose criminality and serious corruption in their former police forces, their former Chief Constables will summon them to a private meeting, telling them: "You try and disclose that, you'll be breaking your lifetime pledge to be bound by the Official Secrets Act, you'll be prosecuted, and you'll lose all your pension".

Many such conversations have taken place.

It soon shuts up anyone even thinking of revealing the corruption amongst Britain's top police officers.

Redwood's men are laughing all their way to a £10 million pension pot.

They went for lunch, how very dare they ! It is ok though for SY to have lunch, they are not Portuguese cops who take 3 hours to eat sardines washed down with lashings of wine.

Unless they had so much to discuss that they needed to stay overnight and meet again with Portuguese detectives.

So all the usual suspect source's stuff about hope that the Portuguese police will co-operate was a lot of crap as usual.

No, really, this foursome reminds me of the gentlemen starring at High Noon: Showdown at the OK Corral

Looks promising!

@ Tony  - retiring at 48 - Cameron's work til you drop policy not going to affect the police then?

How can anyone retire at 48 and collect a huge pension when everyone else is expected to work until they are 66/70?

No wonder we all have to work til we drop - financing public sector pensions.  Cameron doesn't mention that does he.

Sorry for being so active just now: just had a lovely morning tea in the sun looking at those uplifting pictures.

IIRC, for criminal prosecution, only the Portuguese are the competent authorities.

Whatever documents these foursome are handing over a/o discussing with the Portuguese, therefore must be relevant for the ongoing Portuguese inquiry.

It doesn't need to be limited to Portuguese citizens; it could involve UK nationals. The latter could be indicted in Portugal, if the AR/SY gathered material sticks, according to the Portuguese prosecutors (who apparently have been given free reign by prosecutor Menenzes now) reviewing the 2 AR/SY suitcases plus assorted hand-carried binders shown on today's pictures.

If it sticks sufficiently, UK nationals could be named arguidos, from Portugal, by the Portuguese authorities, in the Portuguese investigation.

'Tenterhooks' mustn't even begin to describe the mental state of some, opening their copies of the rags this morning

Thanks Portia for that information  thumbsup

I was wondering what it all meant and figuring out what could happen between the two police forces and legalities of it all is confusing! (for me at least).
