Your police service.....sponsored by

Post by aquila on 25.01.14 10:51

I came across this article in today's DM. Allegedly Nottinghamshire Constabulary are considering raising funding by allowing local businesses to advertise by placement of their logos on police vehicles and the possibility of advertising boards outside local police stations.

Quote

A cash-strapped police force has revealed plans to allow advertisements on the side of squad cars.
Nottinghamshire Police yesterday unveiled the radical move, which could also see huge advertising billboards erected outside police stations.

The force have proposed the drastic measures as they look to cut £73.8 million from their budget by 2020.

Since when did Her Majesty's Police Service become a commercial business?

Since they started paying Chief Constables a 15% bonus for "performance."

Performance related pay attached to a Chief Constable is plainly wrong - disgusting in fact.

As for the possible introduction of advertising sponsorship - that opens up an enormous can of ethical and logistical worms.

I despair.  sad

Imagine a company advertising their logo on the livery of a constabulary's vehicles. Now imagine that company is being investigated for something or other (hard to imagine it would come to that if a nice little earner for the police service/interested parties is in situ). Now imagine that the same company has on its board of directors Members of Parliament/members of the Police Federation/members of any authority attached to the running of the police service.

Imagine the amount of meetings/advertising agencies/corporate ID stuff it would take to enter into such a venture. Then imagine how it could possibly be explained as a positive financial undertaking which offers service delivery at the sharp end (forgive me straying into business-speke). Imagine how a police service could financially account for that activity.

Does any of this sound like a good idea?

The lunatics are running the asylum.

Just my opinion of course.

Editing to add:

The taxpayer has already funded these people to discuss such lucrative deals/solutions in a meeting.

I agree.
It's plainly wrong to turn services into a commercial business.
Imagine the NHS or Fire Ambulance Service following suit.
It could end up with ambulances plastered with  tacky models advertising all sort of tacky products/services - ambulance chasing law firms advertising their services  for example?
I cant see how this will take off.

Imagine the worst scenario - OFM advertising Professional Abductor 'Tannerman' on Police vehicles!

It is indeed disgusting.
My promotion sequence came to an sudden halt because I held and expressed that view.

Not surprising crime rate figures are ' massaged ' ...this can only lead to further corruption.

Performance related pay in any public sector department is disgusting imo.

They are paid an extremely good salary and should be expected to "give their all" for that salary, not do a bit better for the public if they get extra money.

Another "great idea" from Thatcher and her turncoats.  PAH.

I wish all these MPs would get lost and let business leaders (proven) get on with running the country with members of the public shown to have good nouse backing them up.    Dreaming of course.

I can just see ambulances carrying jolly ads for MacDonalds ...... Police can advertise burglar alarms?
If they need more money they could get rid of trauma counsellors for a start.
What if they advertised no win, no fee ambulance chasers?

Aren't the police paid at least partly by local councils? These could do with a lot of slimming down - I'll never forget a job ad for a 'street-naming executive' to join the street-naming team! Newport South Wales ...
O, and a friend got a free trauma counsellor because his lawnmower had been stolen.

And that is why one could, in those long distant times, support the honours system.
People gave their all for their salary.
Those who were judged to have done exceptionally well or who had worked extremely hard got a small enamel badge and three letters to add to their names.
And that was it.

Now they get money. And have no choice but to set in train a whole system to ensure they get it.

Now PM they get the money and the so-called honours.  Win win situation for them - lose, lose for the paying public.  My opinion of course.

Sorry, Mirage, I missed your post.

Trotters Independent Trading - T.I.T.

That's definitely not going to appear on a police vehicle.

The corporate ID department's raison d'être will no doubt produce a magnificent tome to send to the many meetings discussing the important issue of raising funds to police the country.

Blood and cadaver alerts
dismissed by UK Government

Retired DCI Gonçalo Amaral: "The English can always present the conclusions to which they themselves arrived in 2007. Because they know, they have the evidence of what happened - they don't need to investigate anything. All this is now a mere 'show off'."

Retired murder DCI Colin Sutton: "I would also like to make the point that Operation Grange was so restricted from the start as to be destined to fail."

Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley made public on national TV that Operation Grange is a complete fraud.

Ex-DCI Andy Redwood had a "revelation moment" on BBC's Crimewatch on 14th October 2013 when he announced that Operation Grange had eliminated the Tanner sighting - which opened up the 'window of opportunity', in accordance with their remit, to allow the fake abduction to happen.

Despite "irrelevant behaviour" from blood and cadaver dogs in the McCann's apartment, on Kate McCann's clothes, and in the car they hired three weeks after Maddie disappeared, Ex-Chief Inspector, Ian Horrocks, said: "The thought that Kate and Gerry McCann had anything to do with the death of their daughter is frankly preposterous."

Gerry McCann called for example to be made of 'trolls'. SKY News reporter Martin Brunt doorstepped Brenda Leyland on 2 October 2014. She was then found dead in a Leicester hotel room. Brenda paid the price. She paid with her life.

Ex-Deputy Chief Constable, Jim Gamble QPM, congratulated SKY reporter, Martin Brunt, on twitter for doorstepping Brenda Leyland on behalf of Gerry McCann.
