Re: Daily Mirror front page 13/01/2014
Trying to remain hopeful.
Three suspected burglars who had a lot of phone activity around The time of "abduction".
Now we know the mccanns and paynes received two payg phones on The 4th.
David Paynes rog in 2008 had him nervous it seems when questioned about these phones.
Can't remember who, but a few days ago someone on here suggested that maybe he made a point of receiving these phones at the police station to prove he only got them that day.
Well what if these phones were used during the week by some of Tapas group. And they were registered to known criminals who sold them on/done a favour for a friend who had a lot of connections in the area...
Maybe by following this lead interest will be turned on the main players after all.
Like I said,I am trying to be hopeful

I believe - and hope - the 'burglars' are merely a means to an end.

Good question. Probably because they were paid to do so, following that well known maxim - look over there not over here.

if I had been one of the three burglars (assuming they exist) I would already have my excuse ready for using my mobile phone so much after Maddie disappeared - I was ringing the other two to see if they had spotted the girl who had been reported missing. And they were ringing me. We even joined in the search party, officer. Just because we are burglars doesnt mean we dont care about missing kids, does it?

I'm hoping this could be the situation too, Bellisa. The news has gone viral and the eyes of the world are on SY. They would have to be mad not to follow the evidence. I hope and pray they restore my trust in the MET.

I would simply say to them "So what if I was using my mobile phone in Portugal? Now you can speak to my solicitor or run back to Blighty".

Yes Mirage given the extensive coverage especially since October I would like to think that SY are genuinely pursuing the perpetrators.

Re: Daily Mirror front page 13/01/2014
Officially, the Yard didn't talk at all about 3 burglars. It talked about a rogatory letter and nothing more.
Where those burglars emerged from is a mystery.
My theory is that the McCanns want to innocent themselves before Redwood shows up in front of a camera, telling us more about the case.
By the way, I wonder why the Met police told about the new letter. I don't think that it was necessary because it is only a request letter and they still don't know if it will work out.

I'm not sure where to put this, but is anyone aware of a £20,000 reward offered by the MET?

Put it on the living room table in apartment 5A, OC, PDL.
It will still be there AFTER the burglars have left!

Must say I was pretty disgusted with the Brunt report on Sky re the 3 burglars. He's sunk pretty low hasn't he?
Why on earth wouldn't a team of regular burglars be in contact with each other AFTER the disappearance of MMcC, given the place would be alive with police cars, sniffer dogs, people out with searchlights, people shouting out names etc.
Wouldn't you phone your burglar mate to find out what's going on?

Which the McCanns could of and should of said 'no' to!
But KM tells us 'i was glad the case was closed'!
And KM also tells us 'whether the case is re-opened, OR NOT, it dosen't matter"
Gonçalo Amaral: "I remind you that they “demanded” the archiving of the process, in 2008, when they were arguidos, merely to defend their image. They are not interested in the reopening of the process or of the investigation"
Kate and Gerry McCann
"Have never requested the re-opening of the investigation into her disappearance. Which is their absolute right"
For Kate and Gerry McCann "To ask for the process to be reopened, all it would take is a letter to the Prosecutor, as it has already happened in so many other cases. It costs them nothing, just the stamp on the letter."
THE MCCANNS DID NONE OF THE ABOVE!

not in such as an awkward position as the Met will be when the PJ ask to re-interview the T9 if the Met say 'no'
I agree that any refusal in either case would be awkward for the refuser.
Of course, if the interviews are seen as accusatory, the T9 or the 3 stooges could just refuse to answer any question, or just talk around the point.
As Gerry McCann would say 'I can't comment on that'

I am sure there is somewhere a secret co-ordinating committee of civil servants - probably made up of Home Office, Foreign Office and Ministry of Justice, with ACPO representative on board as well. That committee will be taking most of the key decisions in relation to the McCann case, whatever Andy Redwood might claim on Crimewatch. He can only move if they agree.

Re: Daily Mirror front page 13/01/2014
The question is WHY all this now?
The 'lying' programme went belly up when their own lawyer asked for a postponement the day it was broadcast.
I think ID has told them, that in her opinion, they are in the doo doo with their libel case.
So lots of b**locks til judgement day.
All imo.

It is possible that both police will never find out what happened to Madeleine.
But at least we, the public, will stay behind sure of two things:
the population of the UK is made up of 50% paedophiles and 50% of sources.

UK media reports arrests imminent in Madeleine McCann case
by Brendan de Beer, in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] · 16-01-2014 14:27:00 · [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Following reports that the first arrests in the Madeleine McCann case were imminent the Portuguese Attorney General’s Office this week said it received a ‘note’ from UK officials, adding that it is now expecting a “request for judicial help” in the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Portuguese authorities explained that they were yet to receive a formal request, but “when that happens, it will be analysed and duly carried out.” Details of the request were not revealed.
British newspapers have been reporting that police were poised to make three arrests in the case, with at least one of these suspects being Portuguese.
A PJ official in Lisbon added this week that the execution of any rogatory letter or request to investigate by the Attorney-General’s Office on behalf of British police will have to comply with Portuguese criminal procedure, which will govern the detention of suspects for the purposes of subsequent interrogation.
Earlier Monday, the Daily Mirror reported that British police were on the verge of making the first arrests in the case.
According to the tabloid, Scotland Yard want to quiz three burglars who carried out raids in the Portuguese resort when the three-year-old vanished.
“They hope to speak to the thieves after mobile phone records showed the men made numerous calls to each other in the hours after she disappeared”, the daily said.
A spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry also told the Daily Mirror: “The letter is a significant development. It is necessary for British police to request the Portuguese authorities allow them to operate on their turf.
“It means they have the intention of arresting and interviewing X, Y or Z. We don’t know who they have their sights on but it’s likely it is the burglars.
“Whether the Portuguese will co-operate remains to be seen. It is a very sensitive issue with differences they have had.
“Police want to be given a chance to arrest key suspects. It doesn’t prove they have Madeleine but it will rule them in or out of the investigation and that is important.
“Kate and Gerry don’t want to build up their hopes too high but they realise it could be a significant new lead.”
An inquiry source also reportedly told the Daily Mirror: “Portuguese police attached no significance to the burglary at the time. British officers regard this as an oversight.”
Portuguese authorities ordered the re-opening of the case into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann last October and immediately excluded the possibility of Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, of having had any involvement in their daughter’s disappearance.
A statement sent to The Portugal News last autumn explained: “The Public Prosecutor’s Office has determined the re-opening of the inquiry relating to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann following a proposal by the Polícia Judiciária and due to the presentation of new elements which justify the continuation of the investigation.”
While a case review has been underway in Portugal since January 2012, led by leading missing persons detective Helena Monteiro and her team in Oporto, official lines of inquiry were closed in the summer of 2008 by the Attorney-General’s office. At the time, the office said that the case would only be re-opened “should new evidence emerge.”
Reports late last year indicated that the PJ Police, perhaps as a result of headway made following a Crimewatch programme on the BBC, felt they had enough new evidence to initiate an official line of enquiry that could include the questioning of persons of interest and possible suspects.
It is believed the PJ team in Oporto uncovered shortcomings in the initial investigation conducted by their counterparts in the Algarve and were now actively pursuing the theory that Madeleine McCann was abducted from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
Helena Monteiro and her four-man team of detectives, who were handed the case due to their expertise and neutrality, having never worked on it before, are also reported to be keen on speaking to a number of people who were never questioned during the first investigation led by inspectors in the Algarve.
At the time, sources close to the case in Portugal told The Portugal News that they support the Portuguese review in that they hope it will conclude “an investigation which was ended while still in its infancy.”
While Oporto detectives have been working on a review of existing evidence, six detectives from the PJ’s branch in Faro have been assisting their colleagues from Scotland Yard in the ambit of an international co-operation request based on the issuing of rogatory letters. PJ police in Lisbon stressed in comments to The Portugal News that at this stage of the review, the PJ branches in Oporto and Faro are “working independently.”
Met Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has also in recent times admitted it would have been “very difficult” for officers in Praia da Luz to know whether they were dealing with a serious crime immediately after the little girl vanished. Speaking on LBC 97.3 radio, he said: “I think sometimes these things at the beginning can be very difficult to deal with, you don’t know exactly if the child has just wandered off. It can be very difficult to know if you’ve got a very serious crime. I’m sure for them that must have been a challenge. Anybody can go back after two, three, five, six years and say ‘why didn’t you do that’? That’s easy in hindsight. We don’t like it when it happens to the Met, and I’m certainly not going to do it to the Portuguese. What I’m determined to do is to work together to make sure we’ve got the best chance to now try to get to the bottom of this terrible tragedy.
“There is a poor family there who’ve got the torture of not knowing whether their daughter is alive or not.”
Madeleine McCann disappeared from Praia da Luz on 3 May 2007 from an apartment where she was sleeping with her younger twin brother and sister while her parents dined at a nearby restaurant.
