Re: Daily Mirror front page 13/01/2014
I've got a bit of a query. If the main suspects are a 'crime gang' operating in the Algarve, and the Oxley efits were sent to the PJ in 2009, how is it that the PJ didn't recognise Smithman (as one of the notorious crime gang) instantly?

Re: Daily Mirror front page 13/01/2014
Going along with this "story", if the police know the identity and therefore the whereabouts of this gang, where is Madeleine?
Also there was so many people going backwards and forwards between the Tapas and flats and people on balconies and parents carrying/pushing kids around the resort. I very much doubt a gang would have gone unnoticed......
Also, such low end criminals would have blabbed/bragged about getting away with such a high profile case long ago.

Well, surely this will be the test of whether SY is playing a clever, slow game or just arsing about wasting money like a troupe of buffoons? I mean, If SY actually arrests 3 burglars tomorrow, then that's all I need to know...and I'll give up.

Re: Daily Mirror front page 13/01/2014
re my previous post
Hailed by the "New York Times Book Review" as 'one of the most brilliant illustrators at work today', Tomi Ungerer has been making beautiful, anarchic and unique books for children for more than 40 years. He has been described by the "Guardian" as 'the direct natural descendant of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen' and, like all the best fairy tales, his classic story of "The Three Robbers" is by turns scary, charming and surprising. The book tells the story of three fierce black-clad robbers who terrorize the countryside, scaring everyone they meet. One robber stops carriage horses with his pepper spray, the second destroys the wheels of the carriage with his axe, and the third robs the passengers by holding them up with his blunderbuss. One day the robbers stop a carriage only to find a small orphan girl called Tiffany inside. On her way to live with a strange aunt, Tiffany is delighted to meet the robbers, who take her back to their cave instead of their usual haul of money, gold and jewels. The next day, Tiffany sees the treasures the robbers have amassed and asks what they plan to do with their riches. The men are baffled, as they had never thought about spending their money. So they decide to buy a castle and welcome all the lost, unhappy and abandoned children they can find. The robbers dress them in tall hats and long capes, just like the ones they wear themselves, only in red instead of black. Years later, when they are grown up, the children build a village near the castle, full of people wearing red hats and red capes. They also build three tall towers, in honour of the three robbers. First published in 1962, "The Three Robbers" has been translated into 16 languages, but has been unavailable in English for years. Now, this beautifully woven sequence of entertaining text and colourful eye-catching illustrations is back to delight children aged 4-8 and above.
ets I do not find anything amusing in the tale of missing Maddie but I can't take the tabloid crap seriously. prime suspects? Getting a heads up? No way.
Wanting to quiz 3 men who might have vital information? A little more plausible.
A burglary gone wrong? Who is taking the P*** here?

It seems they have asked the Portuguese to arrest three petty criminals.
In England police need 'reasonable cause' to arrest, not just suspicion. I wonder what that reasonable cause is.

A spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry said: “The letter is a significant development. It is necessary for British police to request the Portuguese authorities allow them to operate on their turf.
"It means they have the intention of arresting and interviewing X, Y or Z. We don’t know who they have their sights on but it’s likely it is the burglars.
Doesn't quite have the same meaning as the headlines when one reads the full article, does it?

Surely not "arrest" but interview - in the same way the Portugese asked the UK police to interview the Tapas 9.

Madeleine McCann cops to make first arrests: Three burglars who 'made many phone calls' after her disappearance wanted in Portugal
Jan 12, 2014 22:58
By David Collins
The Crown Prosecution Service has sent an International Letter of Request to Portuguese police seeking permission to arrest the trio
British police are poised to make the first arrests in the hunt for missing Madeleine McCann.
The Met want to quiz three burglars who carried out raids in the Portuguese resort when the three-year-old vanished.
Officers were last night preparing to fly to the Algarve to make their first arrests since the force set up Operation Grange in 2011 to review the kidnapping.
They hope to speak to the thieves after mobile phone records showed the men made numerous calls to each other in the hours after she disappeared.
The Crown Prosecution Service has sent an International Letter of Request to Portuguese police seeking permission to arrest the trio.
“Whether the Portuguese will co-operate remains to be seen. It is a very sensitive issue with differences they have had.
“Police want to be given a chance to arrest key suspects. It doesn’t prove they have Madeleine but it will rule them in or out of the investigation and that is important.
"Kate and Gerry don’t want to build up their hopes too high but they realise it could be a significant new lead.”
Days before Madeleine’s disappearance from Praia da Luz in May 2007 aged three, the gang raided another holiday flat there, disturbing a child. The youngster’s parents interrupted the burglars who fled.
An inquiry source said: “Portuguese police attached no significance to the burglary at the time. British officers regard this as an oversight.”
Met Police have so far been unable to arrest the men as their Portuguese counterparts are reluctant to carry out a joint investigation, instead preferring to follow their own lines of inquiry.
Diplomatic discussions are going on to try to secure agreement for UK detectives to be based in Portugal. Six local officers are working with the Met’s team, making enquiries on their behalf.
The latest development follows a first International Letter of Request allowing Operation Grange to access mobile phone data.
Scotland Yard said: “We can confirm a second International Letter of Request has been sent to the Portuguese authorities by the Crown Prosecution Services.”
No formal arrests have ever been made in the hunt for Madeleine. Early on former GP Kate and heart doctor Gerry, both 45 and from Rothley, Leics, were given the status of arguido. It meant they were formal suspects but they were cleared in 2008.
British-born property consultant Robert Murat was also made an arguido but he was exonerated alongside the McCanns.
Operation Grange has 37 officers and has so far cost taxpayers £4.5million.
In October, a BBC Crimewatch special, featuring a reconstruction and an e-fit of a new prime suspect, sparked 3,500 calls and emails. Two viewers gave the same name for the man seen carrying a child.

It seems like this is a cobbled-together story rehashing previous stories that have appeared in the press, with the addition of a rather long quote from The Spokesman.
Has SY actually confirmed this is the reason why they're preparing to fly to the Algarve? I don't see any direct quotes from SY confirming this. Only assumptions from the newspaper and the McCanns.
Also "Officers were last night preparing to fly to the Algarve to make their first arrests since the force set up Operation Grange in 2011 to review the kidnapping." makes it sound like they're preparing to go there today. When in fact, last night they could indeed have been preparing to fly to the Algarve. They could be preparing tonight, too. And they might have been preparing for the past two weeks. Or months. But when that trip is likely to take place may be anyone's guess.

Perhaps something leaked out of Belgravia, maybe not.
Most times such a news appears on Friday evening or on Saturday. Never on Mondays.
Those papers can impossibly refer to known suspects: they have to talk about burglars and that is better than about gypsies.

Who is David Collins?
Maybe Kate, gerry +1 are being called burglars because they broke in the public wallets, in the taxes, cheating on the UK population, in order to make money.
