Just how thick can you get? The ice and 'climate scientists' rescued from the Antarctic 2014 and the Arctic in 2008

Not just the ice that's sadly thick - Christopher Booker blog 5 Jan 2014

What a wonderful parable of group-think has been the story of those 52
green zealots, ”adventure tourists" and journalists from the BBC and
The Guardian
who were trapped in ice up to 10ft thick last week, until
they were removed — to the safety of Chinese and Australian
ice-breakers — from a Russian ship still stuck off the coast of
Antarctica.

Led by a ”climate scientist", who brought along his wife and children
for the ride, this purported to be a ”scientific expedition" to find
out why the sea-ice around Antarctica was being melted by climate
change.

The more we learn about this adventure, the more bizarre it becomes.
These ”scientists" seemed blissfully unaware that there has recently
been more sea-ice round Antarctica than at any time since satellite
records began in 1979, currently 1.5 million square kilometres more
than its 30-year average
(see the Cryosphere Today and Watts Up With
That websites).

Having hired a ship with only minimal ice protection, they were
oblivious to forecasts last October that this year‘s ice, even in
mid-summer, would be dangerously thick.

Like irresponsible children, they frolicked around in the snow for two
days longer than was thought wise by their Russian captain, who warned
before Christmas that they should leave before the ice closed in.
Even
when they were helicoptered off to the two ice-breakers, which could
get no nearer than 10 miles, the BBC was still reporting that they
were taking measurements ”to track how quickly the Antarctic‘s sea-ice
was disappearing".

All this is uncannily like a more dangerous rerun of the famous Catlin
expedition in 2008, backed by the BBC and Prince Charles, when Pen
Hadow and two other global-warming zealots set out to walk to the
North Pole, again to measure how quickly the ice was melting. They
were shocked to find the Arctic so cold that they soon had to be
rescued by a helicopter containing David Shukman, now the BBC‘s
science editor, who at least made no mention of ”global warming" when
he came to fly them back to safety. The trouble with all these people,
of course, is that instead of doing any research, they believe what
they are told by the BBC and The Guardian.

It's a source of amusement to have a look at how many people high up in the BBC have financial interests in global warming/renewable energy/green issues etc.

Just a little observation.

PS. It takes a long time and a lot of patience to wade through the quagmire of companies to get to any information.

Ah Yes, they will say, but the reason there is so much ice is that errm, er, it is, like, y'know, a consequence of warming.
It is just that YOU don't understand the complex mechanisms.
And, by implication - we do. Though we can't actually explain it.

Perhaps it is all those glaciers rushing down into the sea.

Someone nicked my green recycling bin last week - the green bin is the one that houses all the unwanted paper that is delivered daily through my door and the mountains of useless packaging I'm forced to buy. I rang the very nice people at the Council and they sent two men in a lorry to deliver a new one. I was told I can't have a replacement elasticated top to cover the bin and that if I claim for a new bin within the next two years there will be a charge.

Wow, they take this global warming seriously!!! a cynic could be forgiven in thinking it's a bs industry  titter

I hope the arctic tourists have had their carbon footprint wiped.

ETA:

If you watch BBC wildlife programmes please note that not all of their reporting is true - some of it is photography of animals held in captivity and slotted into a wildlife programme until someone asks questions.

Doesn't matter if it gets warmer or colder.  Out come their silly little graphs claiming it is man made climate change.

Too many scientists make a fortune out of this nowadays, anybody who disagree's is accused of being in the oil companies pockets, disgraced and sent into exile.

I had a shock on New year's Day.
A bloke came to the door, and asked if I had been sponsoring a Polar Bear.
Apparently the Bank had not kept up the payments, and he wanted to know where to put it ! ! !

Dutchman on the Russian ship asked on tv what had been his scariest moment said: when a 100 m high iceberg came barreling towards us but stopped some way before reaching us.

That's OK then: just jump ship and leave the crew to their fate

Lord Jim comes to mind
