Post by Bishop Brennan 04.01.14 1:13

Actually I suspect Gerry might well be "furious". And sweating. Not an easy verdict to call. Will the judge infer that their distress was actually because their daughter had disappeared rather than because of a Portuguese book that has never been available in the UK? Will the judge conclude that the book simply summarises the police files and as such is not libel?

Or will there be a technical fault that the book falls foul of, and the judge looks sympathetically on the tales of tractorman and the new burglarmen...

Place your bets.  But meanwhile Gerry is probably angry at having zero influence over the verdict. His team is however spinning the news very effectively in case of it going against them.

Madeleine McCann's parents left furious....
--------------------------------------------------------

Just a pity that Madeleine McCann's parents weren't 'furious' with Matthew Oldfield who told them, lied to them, he had checked on ALL of their THREE kids when, in fact, he hadn't!

Just a pity that Madeleine McCann's parents were not 'furious' with Jane Tanner for not telling them at ten, tennish, on the night of May 3rd 2007 that she had 'seen' a child being 'carried away, wearing the exact same pyjamas as their missing daughter, and which way he was going!

Oh well, such a pity they were not 'furious' with their 'friends' as they are 'furious' at anybody that dosen't 'believe' ONLY their story of 'abduction'

By the testimony of the Tapas 9, the McCanns did not learn of JT's supposedly crucial sighting until several hours after it happened! And - even weirdre - no one ever thought to organise searches in the direction of that sighting... What ???

Isn't this the Jerry Lawton guy who swings both ways - sometimes producing anti-McCann stuff and then producing this sort of white stuff on the floor. Or have I got that wrong...is he in fact a journalist of great integrity who only ever files stories he believes in? I am sure it must be the latter.

Kate McCann says she searches the flat three times before raising the alarm. Jane Tanner says that by this time she is already back in her apartment.

JANE: I went out to the front door of our apartment and then I saw Rachael came and said: "Oh Madeleine's gone!" So that was the first that I heard about it. And then I saw Kate and Fiona running around shouting 'Madeleine' and Kate said to me: "Jane, Madeleine's gone! Madeleine's gone!" and that was the first that I heard.

BILTON: What time was it about?

JANE: I'm not sure, it'd be ten'ish, around ten'ish.

BILTON: And now all of a sudden what you've seen...

JANE: Yeah, as soon as Rachael said to me: "Madeleine's gone" this person sort of came into my head. I hadn't given it a second thought up to that point but then this person sort of... I suddenly thought oh, well that person was a bit odd. Suddenly Madeleine is not there and I've seen somebody that made me think oh, that maybe was a bit odd. It just seems too much of a coincidence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But Jane 'forgets' to tell ANYONE which way 'this person' she 'saw' was going in!

At 10PM , less than a minute after KM 'raised' the alarm!

Weird, huh?

And the McCanns didn't even come close to being 'furious' with her for not telling them what she had 'seen' and which way did the person go!

Weird AGAIN, huh?

Post by Briohazard 04.01.14 8:00

I had a phone call from my 10yo sons school. They told me that he wasn't accounted for.

My IMMEDIATE reaction was (whilst grabbing car keys- screw my shoes) to panic. Heart racing, I screamed at the principal "have you called the police!?" And "where was he last seen!?"

Abduction never crossed my mind.

I flew into the car, driving down the route I take him to school on. I don't allow him to walk anywhere, do my first thought was "if he tries to go anywhere, it will either be my house or his fathers".

I was concerned about him being hit by a car en route. Still, no thoughts of abduction.

During frantic calls between the school and I (calling my mother/sister/friends didn't cross my mind, and I didn't want my ph tied up with unnecessary calls incase THE important call came through) I never stopped driving, looking.

Within half an hour he was found- he'd taken off because his girlfriend upset him.

I later called the school and apologised for the yelling and blame. Their reply? It was normal. It was normal to yell, blame and direct my maternal instincts in that manner.

If I were kate and Gerry, and I suspected kidnap, I would be questioning all and sundry no matter who they may be. It's their daughter. Loyalties mean nothing to someone with parental mode in full swing.

An observation not a criticism....you do not allow your 10 year old to walk anywhere yet you seem to accept that he gets so upset by his girlfriend[ he is 10?] that he leaves school after a disagreement with her?

Pity they weren't so furious about what Mr. A. had written in his book that they couldn't wait on the FIRST  day of the hearing to get in the witness box and tell the world just how ill he had made them.

It was an attention thing, he wasn't getting his own way. Hasn't tried it since either. And no offense taken :)

ETA: sorry I'd misread your comment a little. It upset me quite a bit but in posting what I did I wanted to focus on a natural maternal reaction to learning your child is missing, as opposed to focussing on the reasons he took off. I hope that makes sense

If you found the window at the front of your holiday apartment open with shutters jemmied and your daughter missing, and your friend was in the apartment next door but two on the same side of the building, you would think the immediately obvious thing would be to say, 'did you hear anything?' 'did you see anything?'

The same with Mrs Fenn, directly above the McCann apartment, but no, Mrs Fenn had to ask what all the noise was, and then got told 'a girl has gone missing'

Yes Brio I understand and saw where you meant attention to be focused in your post, the parental reaction. I simply find it sad when parents are so fearful for their safety that children of 10 are not allowed to walk anywhere.....I am of course unaware of your location in relation to school , maybe too far for a walk but it sounds as though you are anxious about his being outdoors without an adult and that this, not distance, was the factor influencing your driving him everywhere.
I hope for his sake in learning to be streetwise that he is allowed soon to be outdoors walking with friends, somewhere. You said this about his escapade

"Within half an hour he was found- he'd taken off because his girlfriend upset him."
My point......sounds like he walked out of school, walked somewhere and was safe and maybe even alone.

I do not mean to be unkind but you decided to give us this information which was not necessary for the missing from school story, so I feel that as long as I am polite I am free to comment on this aspect of your post.  All said that I wanted to say so I will let the matter rest.

no, you picked up on a lot from one post. It shows great intuition. I'm not angry and I didn't take offense, nor did I think you were being unkind. I just wanted to reply to say that it's amazing what can be read from between the lines as everything you said was accurate.

I recognised this aspect of myself, and we are now a year later from the incident and I have gotten to a point where he can walk to and from school now and to the local shops. He has gone to friends places and I have started leaving him for 10 minutes while I go to the deli down the road. He loves his newfound freedom. It took a lot of self discipline, but were getting there. It was all mainly due to the fact is moved from my home town and wasn't comfortable with the area nor familiar with it, and that had escalated into an anxiety problem.

There is more truth , thought and genuine care in this short exchange than is contained within Kate's book.

Back OT.

Would the McCanns even be in Portugal IF GA's book had NOT sold any copies.?

What i mean is that if GA had only sold say 3 books in total would the McCanns have taken him to court?

When does it become viable to 'sue' somebody who you say has devastated you?

Surely the McCanns have to take anybody to court who they think has damaged them.

Or do they only sue when they think a particular 'person' has money.

Surely you sue somebody even if they have only written one libellous sentence about you.

What i find strange is they didn't sue this guy.

7 December 2007
“A Culpa dos McCanns”
Manuel Catarino has written a book. In The Guilt of the McCanns, he writes: “Kate, exhausted, keeps repeating the same. She played with the children in the living room, she put them to bed – and by 7.30pm they were already asleep. The police don’t believe her. They think Madeleine died accidentally in the living room and the parents, in a panic, fearful of the consequences, interested only in defending their reputation, hid her body and staged her abduction”

Says Clarence Mitchell, It’s “another shameful attempt to make money out of the situation”. (unlike himself who has made at least £240,000 from the 'situation') Clarence Mitchell is paid to represent he McCanns, how much is not said.

So, it rather looks like the McCanns waited, once again, to take legal action, this time until it appeared that Gonçalo Amaral had made a significant amount of money from his book, and was therefore worth suing. One wonders why the McCanns didn't sue the author of the book A Culpa dos McCann (The McCanns' Guilt) Manuel Catarino. Never heard of this book, whose publication pre-dates that of Gonçalo Amaral by seven months?

Perhaps that's why the author has not been sued! The book didn't sell! He wasn't worth suing!

The McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “That’s his point of view – we disagree. Kate and Gerry have not been given any special treatment”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps that's why the author has not been sued! The book didn't sell! He wasn't worth suing!

So it appears the The Mccanns can tolerate 'damaging slurs and possible libelous statements' from a person whose book dosen't sell well but can't tolerate the same from a person whose book does sell well, when his book is first published 8 months LATER than the first..
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “That’s his point of view – we disagree. Kate and Gerry have not been given any special treatment”
------------------------------

You sure about the McCanns not getting 'special' treatment, Mr Mitchell?

"Kate and Gerry, are driven from EMA, and arrive back in Rothley accompanied by officers from the UK's Special Branch."

That would be the McCanns that have had a solely dedicated team of 38 police staff, for 2 years 8 months, unlimited funding from the taxpayer, and who are accompanied around Europe with/by the chief investigating officer, into the 'disappearance' of their daughter,

Yep! NO 'special treatment' there!
