Martin Smith Sighting - Connections Empty Martin Smith Sighting - Connections

Post by jd 02.11.13 18:03

Irish 'tourist' (?) Martin Smith claimed that, on the night Madeleine disappeared, he saw a man carrying a child.

On 26 May 2007, Martin Smith stated to the police "that it is not possible for him to recognise the individual in person or by photograph.....However, Martin Smith said the man was not Robert Murat
Then in September 2007, Martin Smith said the man seen carrying the child bore some resemblance to Gerry McCann

Martin Smith and his family were staying at the Estrela da Luz complex on the night of May 3rd 2007 and gave their account of a man seen carrying a child "some weeks later".....after Murat was made arquido

Martin Smith and his son Peter are from Drogheda in the Republic of Ireland, 30 miles north of Dublin.

Martin Smith visits Portugal at least three times every year, staying at an apartment he owns within the Estrela da Luz complex. Peter, who was due to return to Ireland on Friday 4th May ahead of his father, says he only heard of the child's disappearance at the airport on the Friday morning.

He says he was told by an acquaintance of the family - the son of the builder of Estrela da Luz who was also leaving that day.

Irishman Gerry Fagan, who co-owns the Estrela da Luz with his English business partner Simon Burgess (as part of the Oceanico Golf Holiday franchise), is also from Drogheda.

Drogheda is linked to the narcotics trade.......self-styled Drogheda drug baron Tony 'Skitter' Finglas and his sleazy Thai exploits. Tommy Coyle, a leading underworld 'fence' based in Drogheda who was known throughout the British and Irish underworld (Coyle had links to a former RUC detective who had turned to crime and built up a career as an international drug trafficker)

According to the Irish Press, Gerry Fagan's business partner, Simon Burgess is based in Northwich in Cheshire, the same county that McCann sponsor, Brian Kennedy is from (leading Hollie Greig sabre-rattlers, Robert Green and retired construction and waste disposal expert Paul Malpas are also from this area, Malpas only returning to his native Ireland in the last few years). Edward Smethurst is also from Cheshire

It is believed that Fagan and Burgess were introduced by an English Solicitor working out of nearby Almancil called Ronald Swyer (there was an alleged sighting of a child fitting Madeleine's description at the 'Dunas Douradas' complex in Almancil)

Oceanico regularly run Golfing Events with the Associação Portuguesa de Seniores de Golfe, curated by Teresa Symington, whose husband Bob Symington is a member of the famous Symington Port and Wine dynasty and (I think) the brother of Ocean Club owner David Symington. Bob would also be Uncle to David's son, Angus Symington - the celebrated Robert Murat lookalike

Bob Symington's long-time friend, Andrew Bull (who died in 2009), like Bob's nephew Johnny Symington, served with the British Embassy and the British Council in Portugal. The pair had met whilst boys at the Oporto British School. The Symington family appear to have links to some of the most senior figures in the British Establishment. Bull, also born in Oporto, was the son of a Director of Mackenzie & Co in the port wine trade. He began his teaching career at Tulse Hill, in South London (Murat's father also lived in Tulse Hill for a time).

The owners of the Estrela da Luz apartments now own the Vilamoura Golf Course that Daily Telegraph journalist, Martin Symington speaks so fondly of in his Algarve Reports. Oceanico often organise events at the nearby Palmares Golf Club - where Murat and girlfriend Michaela Walczuch met with business associates Jorge da Silva and his son on the day Madeleine went missing.

They also own the Millennium, Pinhal, O Connor Jnr and (Nick) Faldo Golf course in Silves, the Victoria in Vilamoura and the Amendoeira Academy.

Ever figured out why gerry mccann 'said' he always played tennis and NEVER golf?

Oceanico is financially supported by the Anglo Irish Bank but Fagan and Burgess are also backed by a consortium of Irish-Americans in New York. Terry Devey - the Dublin-based construction tycoon is also an investor.

Another Portuguese golfing sponsor and construction millionaire, John Geraghty loaned the McCanns the use of his Praia da Luz apartment in the months immediately after Madeleine's disappearance (??), allowing the Leicester couple leave their infamous Renault Scenic in the garage. Geraghty is also allegd to have requested the keys to the church in Praia da Luz on behalf of the McCanns. Geraghty's father arrived in England from County Galway in Southern Ireland.

Sergey Malinka's partners at Island Expeditions, Stephen Hare and Grant Faulkner were directors of the 'Irish Legend Bar' and the Le Prieve nightclubs in Praia da Luz respectively.

Prior to his appointment to the McCann case, Goncalo Amaral was Head of the Portimao Drugs Squad.

Thats up to you....Its why this forum is a discussion forum to discuss & analyse facts and theories. The above are facts that form part of the situation in 2007

A little hint: In life, connections are very important. We all need them at times in getting through what life throws your way

Drogheda is certainly very well represented in PDL.  There is a total population of about 30,000 in Drogheda, it is not a big place.

That hasn't escaped my notice either. In Ireland, Co. Louth, a border county, is unfortunately associated with many terrorist and drug related crimes.

Seems there were some very well connected and wealthy Irish people in the Algarve in the 2000's. Also some rather unsavoury underworld characters too connected to drugs and terrorism.
There was a lot of property development/investment going on too as a result of the booming Irish economy. To quote the Irish Idependent writing about the disgraced Irish solicitor Michael Lynne -
"Lynn (now 40), the Mayo-born former wedding singer turned multimillionaire legal eagle and property guru, fled Ireland in December 2007 with a bench warrant for his arrest and an €80m mortgage fraud trailing in his wake.
His choice of refuge from the reach of Irish law enforcement was the Portuguese Algarve, where he had hoped to raise a stock-market listed property conglomerate from the sandy banks of a fishing village where he was building a series of apartment blocks he flogged to "buckaleiros", his term of endearment for Irish property investors."

JD, what a great job. I know of old how much digging you do!

As much as I love Pat Brown and her feistiness, I disagree with her latest blog. The case is far from simple.

I used to read Blackwatch who is mentioned in this article. He was an expert in 2007 and later on the connections with all the main characters which helped me to understand what could be going on.

Mirage, I also disagree with Pat Brown's latest blog. This IMO is a very complex case with many many layers to deconstruct.  I used to admire her first articles in 2007.  I cannot help but wonder if she just chooses to support what Amaral wrote in his book which also makes May 3 sound more simple than it really is.

I believe too it is rather simple. The only real mystery is exactly WHAT caused her death. If we knew, we could take analysis from there. But we don't. And I'm afraid that IS the reason that she had to disappear: so that we won't know.

IMO, of course, as usual.

There are many "mysteries" as you called it, but really there are few known FACTS.
WHEN?  Maddie could have died any time between April 29 and May 3
WHERE? Did Maddie actually die in Apartment 5A or was she brought back there and then she died there?
WHO was responsible for her death? If homicide, was it Gerry, Kate, one of the Tapas7 or someone else?
or WHAT caused her death?  Accident by fall down stairs or off balcony or head hit on wall? Was she hit, punched or pushed? Strangled? Asphyxiated?
HOW did it happen?  see above
WHY did she die?  Through neglect? Unwanted, sickly child? Parent lost their temper? Abuse of some sort?

If you think you know all the answers to all these questions for sure except WHAT, then please tell us as I am sure we would all like to know.

Yes - what on earth happened to Blackwatch? I always had a lot of respect for his analysis of the case.

Yes Galena, Blackwatch was the best. He also talked about the Mark Warner and Ocean Club connections and how they could be covering up for Gerry too due to the Symington connections.

My analysis of the case actually gives VERY FEW FACTS!.

The only FACTS are the following.

1. MM was declared missing on May 3rd 2007

2. Phone messages & calls Are deleted from phones.

3. Timeline is handwritten on MM sticker book.

2. Dogs found cadaver & blood in 5A & Scenic Car.

3. MSM is heavily involved from very early stage.

4. RM KM & GM made arguido's over following 5 months

5. Mcs have hire car prior to arguido status and travel freely.

6. KM remains silent during the 48 questions.

5. MCs return to England without MM.

As far as I can see these are really the only definitive FACTS as such.

Without any statements from anyone ..be they truthful or otherwise..the FACTS look pretty damning !
