Independent 4/10/13 SY Review Team says there's now *41* persons of interest, and they're trying with the help of Interpol to track mobile 'phones linked to 31 countries worldwide... *PLUS* A new Crimewatch TV appeal in FOUR countries
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/madeleine-mccann-case-police-launch-huge-trawl-to-trace-phones-of-people-who-were-in-praia-da-luz-when-she-went-missing-in-2007-8857404.html
Those who thought the top CPS lawyers visiting Portugal nine months ago meant that there might be arrests in the near future have not proved to be right.
One of them was Alison Saunders, who will become the Head of the Crown Prosecution Service in 2 months' time.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Police are attempting to trace mobile phones linked to 31 countries to identify thousands of people who were in the Algarve town of Praia da Luz when Madeleine McCann went missing six years ago, Scotland Yard said.
The scale of the huge trawl emerged as police said that they had identified 41 people of interest, including 15 Britons, during an investigation by the country's biggest police force after an appeal by the family to Home Secretary Theresa May in 2011. The girl, then aged three went missing from a holiday apartment on May 3, 2007 as her parents Kate and Gerry dined at a nearby tapas restaurant with friends.
“What we're trying to do is to use every route available to us to identify as many of them as possible and the phone data is one route into that,” said Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Andy Redwood, the senior investigating officer on the inquiry. “If you were in Praia da Luz at the time, you may get a routine phone call from the police.”
The girl's parents are to make a new television appeal in light of “fresh, substantive” material unearthed as part of a British police investigation. In the week Crimewatch airs, equivalent programmes made in Holland, Germany and possibly Ireland, are expected to be broadcast.
Detectives have issued 31 international letters of request to mostly European countries in relation to some of the persons of interest as well as accessing phone records. A large but “manageable” list of phone numbers identified as being present in Praia da Luz - though not necessarily used to make phone calls - has been drawn up by detectives with a “significant” number unattributed to any named person.
And significantly, police officers are now able to create a log showing calls being made at the time of Madeleine's disappearance. Mr Redwood said his team could never say for certain that it knew everybody who was in Praia da Luz when Madeleine disappeared. He said 99% of the phone numbers are likely to belong to “completely unaware and innocent individuals”.
Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns' spokesman, said: “Kate and Gerry remain very grateful to the Met for the work they are doing in liaison with the Portuguese authorities.
"Their forthcoming appearance on Crimewatch is an important stage in that ongoing process. Naturally, they hope it will lead to information that will provide the breakthrough to finding Madeleine."

Oh absolutely but I never really expected anything to come from this as IMO it's just to make up their Pensions.margaret wrote:Oh what perfect timing as the libel case is not going well.

Still thinking on, all those enquiries into 31 countries for 41 persons of interest. Mountains of work still to be done!

Crimewatch should be interesting.
Hopefully it might be a step forward the McCs to have to explain the inconsistencies.

Just when you think its all over, lol.
Those of us who know this case inside out and upside down (and we are legion) know this is baloney, because there is no abductor. They can contact everyone who was in PDL that week, heck they can contact anyone who has ever been there (only taxpayers money), but the fact remains, the suspects will have to fit in with the story, not the other way round. Courtesy of the PJ files and Kate's book, the whole world knows exactly what the parents and the friends were doing that evening.

The revelation of a new theory that will give a different understanding about the case........
New, as opposed to what old one ? All that has been in the mainstream for the past 6 yrs is abducted by a stranger.
Understanding of the case by the majority .......stranger abduction.
What on earth is going on?
And why all this now, as the libel trial is in full swing?
Also, where do the Portuguese police fit into this new stuff coming out?
eta the Express front page story just announced on Sky news at midnight, will be reported in more detail in a few minutes.

Amazing. This seems absurd.
They could probably save a few years and a few million more taxpayers quid if they used Eddie and Keela as a starting point.
Either this is a wonderfully elaborate trap to get the McCanns off guard or else it's a determined effort to hit the ball off into the long grass and avoid solving the case.
Or this SY team are genuinely crap.

First job must surely have been to check the Tapas 9s intriguing delivery of pay as u go phones a day or two after Madeleine disappeared. Didn't they come from Payne's brother in law? Also Redwood's boys must have dug into the odd calls and deletions as described by Dewi Lennard.

Do you think with all this telephone call tracing they might discover all the calls deleted from the Mcphones that night?

Operation Grange has been going for 2 years and 5 months now, and the cost of this investigation, on their own figures, has risen to not far short of £6 million.
To that must be added the costs of writing to 31 countries asking all their mobile 'phone companies for records - and those countries then sending them over to Belgravia Police Station, where Grange is located.
Following all that lot up may mean that Redwood has to recruit even more staff within two years of their police retirement date.
Add on the cost of obtaining these shoals of data, processing them, and then ringing everyone up and maybe visiting some of them - not forgetting visits to the 41 'persons of interest' already named - and surely the total costs of this SY Review will sail past £10 million before very long?
All to be funded by the patient taxpayers of the U.K.

Yes, indeed. So why don't you analyse McCanns' own phone records and trace those that were deliberately deleted after their daughter went missing?

" 41 people of interest, including 15 Britons,"
well, last time there was a total of 38 including 12 Britons.
So, the 3 new suspects are British.
On Sky News just now :
3 of the 41 on verge of being eliminated.
No arrests made yet.
Ian Woods re McCanns.........suspects no more, now they have the police on their side.

The McCanns are to make an official appeal on Crime Watch at the end of the month, as opposed to all their previous personal appeals on the media.

SY will have done a reconstruction with their advanced software, this is what we will see ?
If the inconsistencies in the statements are not highlighted then it will be very interesting.
Wonder if a rep from the PJ will be there.
ETA...........I JUST READ THAT THE MCs ARE TO BE SHOWN FILMED IN PdL FOR A RECONSTRUCTION.

It also needs to include McCann Team chief private investigator Dave Edgar (the first 'professional' employed to look for Madeleine, according to ,er, Dave Edgar) saying to Jane: 'Do you think you might have seen a woman, not a man' - and perhaps also: 'Could you have please have another think about whether on 13 May 2007 you were right to identify Robert Murat as the abductor 'by the way he was walking'?'Cristobell wrote:Well the crimewatch reconstruction should be interesting! I suppose that Paul Peachey thinks that we should be impressed by big numbers. Doesn't he realise that after all this time the UKs top police force should have narrowed down their search to one suspect in one country. Now we are up to thousands of people in 31 countries.
What he has told us here is that after all this time, Scotland Yard are totally clueless as to what may have happened to Madeleine, they give no credibility to Edgars' theory, and they are just going around in circles not really focussed on what they are doing.

I would particularly be interested to see how this reconstruction tackles the visit said to have been made to Apartment G5A by David Payne at between 6.30pm and 7.00pm and how the differing accounts of that visit can be reconciledrussiandoll wrote:If the inconsistencies in the statements are not highlighted then it will be very interesting...
