I don't find it too surprising that MM asked her parents where they were and then 'moved on' She was probably well used to life without her parents around

It's not normal for a parent not to ask the child why she was crying.
And evidently, Kate didn't ask, or she would have had an answer.

Seem to have sent the message without  actually posting.smilie Edited again, as even made a mistake here.  lol.   It's too hot.

If she was well used to life wthout her parents being around why would she mention anything.

IMO the question where were you when we were crying was because they were not in the apartment.  I really do think that if  they had been in the apartment they would have heard crying and investigated, especially if they were in the bath and somebody else had been bathing them.

What parent would not shoot out of a chair or stop what they were doing immediately to investigate crying?

Didn't Kate McCann also say to Madeleine ((I can't remember which day it was), that was she upset about not going to the beach with the other children.  It seems a strange thing to say, why didn't Madeleine go to the beach with the other children, had something happened to her at that point and this was just another cover up story.   Why would a Mother even say that to a barely-4 year old, even if the child did miss out on a beach trip she would more likely say "well we can take a picnic to the beach tomorrow, just you and me, that would be nice wouldn't it?",

Poor little mite didn't seem to be very happy during that holiday and yet the fawners still expect others to kiss the parents' backsides, even after reading how sad Maddie appeared to be.

I agree NewinTown why would a mother even say that to her little girl and the example you give about the picnic is exactly what most mothers would do.

Didn't the rest of the group take the children to the Paraiso Restaurant on the beach on the Thurs without telling the McCanns? (That's interesting in itself when you think about it) When KM went to collect MM, her friend (ROB and Tanner's daughter) had already gone from the creche and KM wondered if MM was upset about that?

Yes, that was peculiar, they go on holiday as a group but don't appear to have socialised much -through the day anyway.
But Thursday was the day when  everything was different from the other days and when Kate McCann picked the kids up from the creche tea she actually told Madeleine that all of the others had been to the beach and she hoped Madeleine wasn't upset about missing the outing  but Madeleine replied that she wasn't upset but was very tired and so Kate carried her back to the apartment.
For most kids (especially ones who were very tired) that would have been a signal to have a crying session or a tantrum that they'd missed out on having "family" fun with the other kids. Most normal mothers would definitely refrained from mentioning it that's for sure.
This is all baloney of course, I don't believe any of it ever happened - the friends distanced themselves that day -on purpose I would think- and Madeleine never asked that question "why didn't you come when Sean and I cried"? either.

Casey5's comment highlighted in red, true or not, how breathtakingly spiteful is that!

I think this is Kate angry at being excluded and lashing out trying to make the others look bad. In some ways she seems very childish.
