Madeleine's health at the time she disappeared

Post by AndyB on 09.07.13 21:18

Forgive me if this is all common knowledge but I haven't been able to find anything and I'm quite new to this: Have there been any rumours/facts about Madeleine's health at the time she disappeared? Specifically, what I'm interested in is; did she have ADHD?

maddie's health condition

she could have had heart problems.  She was short for her age (90cm), and coloboma can indicate problems in the organism.

but we don't know.

There have been lots of debates on this fuelled by the refusal to hand over medical records.

If it is true that Madeleine had a coloboma of the eye - and thanks to the McCanns later backpedalling on that issue, we can't be sure about it - it's a serious condition and unlikely to be the only problem she had.

I think that the only other thing that Kate and / or other relatives ever mentioned was colic as a baby.

The in-laws have spoken of a child that 'could throw a tantrum' and was 'a screamer'.

Imo she looks 'peaky' on many photos, it's my belief that she never was really healthy. The statement given by their GP is fairly useless as I believe he had only been their GP for about a month.

We also have reports of her waking during the night - the PJ asked questions about that. There appeared to be a 'star' chart on the wall in Rothley. A star for every night that she didn't wake up.

Coloboma

Post by marconi on 10.07.13 8:11

I think it was a star for every night that she didn't come to her parents'bedroom.

On the book Kate tells that Madeleine was exhausted on the afernoon of the 5h. Kate had to carry her home.

More times Kate talks about Madeleine's tiredness.

It is not normal for a child of Maddie's age to be exhausted at 5pm,  after a normal creche day. Such a creche days could have forced her heart. Being doctors, the MCanns should have known it.
Exhaustion, coloboma  and sedation seems to be a bad combination, imo.

Madeleine's general health

There is also the fact that she was an IVF baby and that can be associated with health problems.

I've wondered if she was a hyperactive child

I wondered if MM's coloboma could be related to the fact that she was an IVF baby. This is a small section from a study of under 5's suggesting there may be a higher incidence of coloboma amongst IVF children, although concluding that more work would be needed,

' ..... Despite the limitations of our study [ ] the results [ ] should stimulate a heightened awareness about the possible higher incidence of ocular malformations in children born after IVF. Detection of these ocular structural malformations in high-risk pregnancies, such as after IVF in particular and in uncomplicated pregnancies in general, is feasible. Ophthalmologists and, particularly, obstetricians and gynaecologists must be aware of the potential increased incidence of ocular abnormalities in IVF offspring ....'

This is from JAMA Opthalmology October 2001, Vol 119, No 10, Occular Manifestations In Children Born After IVF

I don't really know what use it is to us that there may be a connection, but interesting anyway

It's not very clear whether a process called ICSI was used for those IVF results, that's where a normal looking sperm is selected and injected into the egg to force fertilisation.  Normal IVF is where egg and sperm are mixed and like in the body the strongest sperm fertilises the egg.  With ICSI even the normal looking sperm sometimes has faults and this method of IVF does have higher abnormality rates.

A while ago I was looking up the colobomo and tracked it through several health sites. It's also linked with foetal alcohol syndrome. I started studying Maddie's upper lip for lack of definition and her eyes for a hint of epicanthal folds and was convinced I saw them. But it's never been mentioned before as far as I can find and I'm probably just wrong. I mean they do seem to drink like fish, and if you thought you weren't ever going to succeed with a pregnancy... Just horrible speculation obviously.

well im sure it was all a misunderstanding don't you know, apparently Portugal did not get medical records/bank info. so nothing in files. I have to admit ive always thought maddy did not look well from photos ive seen at times. I wondered if FSA could have been cause of Coloboma FSA can also can also cause behavioural problems and psychological issues and appear to be ADHD:spin: Alcohol does seem to be discussed a lot ?taken a lot in early pregnancy.

When asking for Public to continue searching recently SY did not show even a picture. no mention was made that she could possibly be needing to wear glasses/contact lenses due to Colombo.Im sure they will have checked any medical history of note by now and if any FAS what type of IVF. if any behavioural problems as would be so significant in case !

do police have the right to check on any medical history of a disappeared person?

In my opnion, I think that Madeleine was ok, short for her age, ok, maybe she would grow up better when she would become older.Of course the SY did not mention eventual glasses.  That is the duty of the parents, who even never mentioned vaccination.

On the tennis ball photo madeleine looks like an aged young lady, an old face, probably because of her lack of enough sleep. she looks very tired, perhaps the holiday's activities were too much for her. Deep folds on her skin.

IMO, a medical condition, hypothetically say for example Asperger Syndrome or Autism for example exists in her Medical Records, then that would be one valid reason for not releasing her medical records. The pertinent question would be : on whose specific instructions were the records withheld, and were the Mccanns involved in contributing towards that decision?

A sufferer of either of those conditions is predisposed to keep a fixated routine and/or a certain fixated OCD habit and will scream or become difficult if they're forced away from performing/keeping the habit. Not saying Madeleine is suffering that.

Just that there might be an explanation for her difficult behavior as Kate told us in her diary.
And, may explain the perplex question as to how the Police got the idea that they were thinking of giving her up for adoption? That is a very unusual question by any standard, so what were the contributing factors leading to that question?

CHARGE SYNDROME

Post by Guest on 16.07.13 7:18

This syndrome is linked to coloboma & IVF.
Wikipedia-coloboma will get you there.
An interesting read and a possible explanation, me thinks
Just IMO.

,yes, agree: with baby colic and sleep problems as well as the coloboma that we have been told of,im sure parents would have been asked to give permission for access to medical records over past 2yrs.uk. as this would be so significant in case imo Also parents Drs who now uk will have explained to sy any medical issues and sleeping problems maddy was having etc. To HELP with investigation. if not why? not people of interest. Im sure if parents refused if  maddy is ward of court the consent to release any relevant medical information that could be linked to her disappearance can be requested. The sleep walking could also be very important to know full history of as she could have just walked straight out of apartment herself or got through that little window and got lost, fell, ran over and taken or anything at all could happen if that kind of situation. Also if Mother did drink in early stages of pregnany which could be a possibility as seem to be lot of talk of alcohol any FAS  imo could make her hard for any abductor to manage and she with the Shock when taken from normal life would be even more vulnerable than a child with no sleeping problems even.

If Madeleine is still a Ward of Court wouldn't it be the Court that has power over her medical records?

And not only the colic as a little baby. One of the relatives said "She was a real screamer", which seemed to imply that this behaviour was current.

the coloboma was at seven oclock and aware there are contacts etc these days, but surely as position of it will stay at seven apparently and such a distinguishing mark some kind of optician will have seen her by now and rare as well as mass publicity. Any optician would have notified authorities ?where any checked for even eye test on children with condition. or any ophthalmic visits as they use the LOOK to and so well known to maddy now as well.just don't understand why its not made more of now seems to be never mentioned, perhaps it is in the checks only.think your right WOC will be able to ask for medical info. and will all be available to current investigation. They can get expert opinions as night screamers may also be very significant. anywhere she went to,or was taken to,the  neighbours would hear screams to ! another clue that could help find her perhaps. She also seemed small for her age which could possibly be linked imo

Don't forget that in 2011 the McCanns said (in an interview with Piers Morgan I think) that "to be honest (alarms screaming everywhere!) they never made much of the eye defect because it was barely noticeable".

It must be really hard to keep all your stories straight but I don't know how they could have forgotten that one because of the enormous advertising campaign there was in 2007 to draw attention to the defect.

So now we have no idea whether Madeleine had the condition or not.

Which implies that she is not at school. Anywhere.
Which implies, sadly, that she is either in the Patented and Trademarked "Hellish Lair" - All Rights reserved to Edgar & Associates PLC.
Or some other fate has befallen her
