I was recently offered a free connection to the gas main in our road but I declined even though it would have saved me over £3000 connection fee. I am having my oil central heating boiler removed on 1st July and having it replaced by a solid fuel system. The surveyor thinks I am mad. I do not trust the suppliers of oil or gas so will take my chances with solid fuel. I just wish I could afford solar power instead of relying on mains electric but at the moment I can't.
I do have a large store of candles though, just in case

Wind turbines which, imo, are just another big con.

Wonder who benefits from it most in UK. Certainly not the workers who pay tax to keep the greedy barstewards who "rule" us.

How many mps will get jobs on boards when they are kicked out, (sorry) retire?

yep, imo, ONE BIG CON.

I expect the cost in terms of energy expended (not even talking about money here) of making one wind turbine plus the maintenance costs would need the damn thing to work 24/7 for about a hundred years before one would make an energy profit. (still not talking money here).

In the sixties it was calculated that for each calorie gained in food production 250 had to be expended. (Tractors, pesticides, processing etc) . It's probably worse now.
A hunter gatherer has/had a ratio of 14 calories gained for 1 expended.

The wind farms (what a wonderful name for lots of other institutions! - parliament, PR companies who produce the likes of CM) make money for the land owners and the industry who makes and installs the things. I understand they don't work in lots of situations, the wrong kind of wind for instance. fan

You're right Tigger, they don't work in the wrong kind of wind but the money still gets dished out.
