http://northridge.patch.com/articles/former-csun-recruiter-convicted-of-killing-actress-sister

A one-time Hollywood resident and recruiter at Cal State Northridge was convicted of second-degree murder Monday for killing his wife, who was the sister of actress Aasha Davis.

Lyle Stanford Herring's attorney argued during trial that his client's wife, Lesley, simply disappeared in 2009 and there was no evidence to suggest she had been killed or that she was even dead.

Members of Lesley Herring's family, including the actress, were in court in downtown Los Angeles when the verdict was read, and some cried uncontrollably and hugged each other.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge George Lomeli, sitting in for Judge Ronald Coen, who presided over the case, set sentencing for June 7.

Lesley Herring, 44, was last seen Feb. 7, 2009, at the couple's condominium complex in the 2700 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard. Aasha Davis - - who has appeared on Grey's Anatomy and Friday Night Lights -- reported her sister missing after she failed to show up at work for several days. The actress made public pleas for information to find her sister, and Lyle Herring even took part in a 2009 police news conference asking for help locating the woman.
Herring, now 59, was arrested more than a year later, on April 29, 2010.
During closing arguments, Deputy District Attorney Pak Kouch told jurors they had two questions to answer -- whether Lesley Herring was dead and whether the defendant killed her.
"He killed her and then he covers up," the prosecutor said. Left behind were the woman's car, purse, wallet, keys, cellular telephone and the bracelets she routinely wore, along with $26,000 in her savings account, according to Kouch.
Lesley was thinking of leaving her husband, something Lyle couldn't let happen, according to Kouch.
The prosecutor said Herring told his cousin that he did something he can't recover from and that he would "burn in hell" for what he did.
Kouch noted that a neighbor had seen the defendant wheeling a dolly containing a carpet large enough to hold a dead body on to an elevator at the condominium complex, and that another neighbor saw him later with an empty dolly.
A cadaver dog from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office alerted on the defendant's two vehicles -- a Mitsubishi and a Cadillac -- suggesting that her body had been in each of the vehicles, Kouch said.
"The defense would have us believe ... she is out there," Kouch said. "Where is the corroboration that Lesley is out there somewhere?"
Defense attorney Marvin Hamilton Jr., however, argued that the prosecution had "failed miserably" to show that Lesley Herring's disappearance was anything other than a missing-person case.
"She had left before, but she'd always come back," he said.
Hamilton suggested that she may have gone "underground" to leave her husband.
"I would suggest to you that she's still able to return," the defense attorney said, telling jurors there was no plausible evidence she is dead.
He accused investigators of being overeager to pin the murder on his client.
"They did not investigate the one area that was most important," he said. "They were treating him (Lyle Herring) as a suspect from the very beginning ... It's the proverbial rush to judgment."
He also questioned the work of the cadaver dog, named Indiana Bones.
"We don't know what Indiana Bones was smelling ... He could have been smelling a ham sandwich," he said. "It was not corroborated when they searched the cars." Actress Aasha Davis, whose real last name is Pforzheimer, testified that she became concerned in February 2009 after her sister's boss called and said she hadn't shown up for work.
"My heart skipped a beat," the actress testified.
She said when she phoned her sister and her brother-in-law, both of their voice mailboxes were full.
The sister's acting career helped the case get a higher profile, including being featured on Nancy Grace's show on CNN.

Just caught a bit on Eden channel of dogs being trained to detect diseases, looked like medical people were involved in the training. One dog was trying to detect bladder cancer, and they said they had made this test even more difficult, the dog correctly identified the diseased sample. But of course we all know dogs are "incredibly unreliable". I'm sure that should GM hear about this he will inform them that he has thoroughly researched the use of dogs and will present his findings - he might even use his flipchart!

They have trained dogs to detect
malignant melanoma, http://medicaldetectiondogs.org.uk/how_it_works.html,
Breast and prostate cancers, http://medicaldetectiondogs.org.uk/prostate.html
Bed bugs ! ! http://medicaldetectiondogs.org.uk/bio_detection.html

There is almost no limit to what they can do.
unless, of course, Kevin and Carter- Ruck and Tony Bennett - keywords search -
They are involved with the McCanns in Portugal.

In which case they are notoriously unreliable.

Good gracious, even dogs that had no training do detect diseases with each other and with people around them ... I can give lots of examples.

Woman on tv last year speaking about her dog, which had died...she was crying remembering how he had alerted her to breast cancer. Began by sniffing the same breast and becoming agitated, this was repeated on many occasions. She then went to her doctor who examined her and sent her for tests. Cancer diagnosed, successfully treated. That woman credits her beloved pet, as well as surgeons, with saving her life.

They would have people believed they do REVERE noseless DOG (reverse spelling) though, so much so they even held keys to enter DOG's house in two continents.

She says so in her book. She made at least one trip to collect Gerry from the airport. We discussed the fact that she was not a named driver on hire agreement, I think.

And the Mccanns or their irks excuse for the dogs alerting to the hired car was because of Maddie's Poster in the rear window!

Interesting! Am not of the twitterati, but odd that the McCs should suddenly begin a counter-offensive re the dogs NOW several years after the newspaper reports that they found so 'hurtful' and (imho) lucrative. Why remind everyone?

I'm thrilled these dogs are not distracted by detecting bovine excrement - they'd have gone into overdrive in PDL. As far as I am aware they are not trained to sniff out BSE (mad cow disease) or Foot and in mouth disease either. Poor dogs might have needed sedation.

He is of course technically correct.
It was humans who climbed up the ladder into the loft space, and therefore it was a human who found the body.
But the human was told to do so by the dog.
And by the dog which had told them on a previous occasion.
It was human action
and HUMAN ERROR

This was precisely the point the person was making but MWT was playing dumb for reasons one can only guess at. With an attitude like his, it's a good thing he retired early from the police.

Yes, quite. It is such a pity that the interviewers never press the point home, but let people like MW-T, and Edgar and the rest get away it.
His problem, of course, is that he nailed his colours to the mast a long time ago, and cannot now find a way to alter his official view.
The easiest way is to say "More evidence has now been brought to my attention, which has caused me to alter my opinion."
I don't know why he can't
