If I were the girl's mum the Police would have to drag me to court to prove my daughter is Maddie, and not for me to prove my daughter is not Maddie.

There is not enough expletive to describe the mccanns for having allowed this charade hence harrassement of innocent children to continue.

It's just unbelievable and shows the utter desperation of the couple that a story which was discredited only recently has now resurfaced and is saturating the media in an attempt to drown out the fact they want to send Tony to jail! When will Scotland Yard stand up and dismiss these stories?

Well , there it is in black and white..not a line of enquiry. I would like to think that SY have spoken to the family and the family are so sick of the speculation and how it is affecting them, that they have asked for DNA to be taken to put the lid on the rumours.
There is a touch of not being 100% certain about it though....a little bit of the tabloidspeak imo re- foreign police forces and their conclusions not being quite good enough. I do not think for one minute SY have this attitude. The newspapers are fond of printing stuff allegedly said by SY... but there is rarely a direct quote.

p.s can the thread title be changed please, it is not DNA from Maddie being taken, it is from a girl in NZ who allegedly resembles her.

Surely every sighting can be used as a cause for doubting the hypothesis that Madeleine is dead because traces of a corpse were located by specialist dogs in immediately outside the apartment and in the hire car. Perhaps one should step back and take a look at this from the point of view of bringing a prosecution without a body and then ask oneself whether it makes sense to follow up every single sighting and document the findings that unequivocally rules each of them out?

You have to admit Clarence Mitchell's timing of the release of this story was impeccable.
Exactly at the moment that TB is saying there is credible evidence that M died 5 years ago, there is another report, of the same alleged sighting which has happened several times, to the same girl, but this time the story is complete with DNA, which will of course take weeks, so the result will never be published.
Just like the India story, which was clearly made up from start to finish. But which papers have the interest to follow it up ?

reading this from Sky...they seem satisfied this is not Maddie.

and the Telegraph needed a proof -read as they lack respect..

a thought : surely the first thing was/is to check the DNA for a match with the claimed biological parents in NZ? If this is being done why any need for it to come to the UK?

Perhaps it is to make sure the same girl is not looked at again/reported on if sighted again. Though why it isn't enough that she has been ruled out via all other means is odd. A police spokesman is quoted as saying although its not a line of enquiry it is just for completeness to do a comparison. (IB Times)

yes and as well as checking her leg and looking for family photos of this girl at various ages, checking her DNA against those people presumed to be her biological parents is the simplest thing to do... this should be enough for SY, so I hoped this was the case and it was the results confirming she was not M which were going to UK... the NZ police say results not known for some weeks.....this has to mean it is in UK to be tested in relation to McCann DNA does it not? I cannot see how the parents of this girl have not complied with the insistence that police check her DNA against them. Confirmed their daughter, lid on this sighting, sealed tight and no comeback from Mcs that things not properly checked.

They never mention the brown spot behind Maddies leg because this would tell them almost immediately the chances of the girl being Maddie......Their only intentions are to keep false sightings in the media, keep Maddie alive for the fund, so they ignore this and just bang on about DNA tests and prolonging the particular 'sighting'...If this was a true abduction then the very first thing they would do is check for the known life marks the child had...But they don't! Nor mention it

This DNA test is so completely stupid and a waste of time - a quick flick through the family photo albums will show if she has been with the family all along, especially photos from age two through to five say.. Less costly and quicker. No-one knows what Madeleine looks like now, the age progressions are an approximation only. The ones the McCanns have had done look like completely different people anyway. Which one would be more accurate? The demure headband one, or the one based on the Everton football shirt picture? Side by side those two pictures look totally unrelated.

Russiandoll, all those methods should be 100% sufficient to rule the child out, so I still have no idea why SY asked for this, if they did.It makes very little sense. We will have to see what pans out. Imagine as the parent having to prove the child is yours to this length. What a nightmare. One look at the photo by Madeleines parents, not to mention checking for the birthmark. would have sufficed! So the reason for the request is known only to SY.
