It's a Knockout presenter Stuart Hall charged with child abuse

Stuart Hall, the former It's A Knockout presenter, has been charged with sexually assaulting three girls in the 1970s and 1980s.

Hall, 82, allegedly abused an eight-year-old girl in 1983, and assaulted a 13-year-old girl between July and September of the following year.

He has also been charged with assaulting a 16-year-old girl in 1974.

Hall, who has been married to his wife Hazel for 54 years and has two children, was given an OBE in the 2012 Queen's New Year Honours list for services to broadcasting and charity.

Lancashire Police arrested Mr Hall this morning and are conducting searches of his £1.5m home in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

John Dilworth, head of the Crown Prosecution Service's North West complex casework unit, said: "This decision is made in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors and I have concluded that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that it is in the public interest to prosecute this case."

Stuart Hall 'innocent of abuse charges' says solicitor

Mr Hall has been bailed to appear before Preston magistrates in January

BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall is innocent of indecent assault charges brought against him, his solicitor has said.

The 82-year-old from Wilmslow in Cheshire has been charged following complaints to police about alleged incidents involving three girls aged between nine and 16.

Mr Hall has been bailed to appear before Preston magistrates in January.

A statement issued by his solicitor Louise Straw said: "Stuart Hall is innocent of these charges."
Distinctive style
She added: "Stuart Hall was not afforded the opportunity to attend voluntarily at the police station. In due course, the decision that he should be arrested will be the subject of some scrutiny.

"Stuart Hall is innocent. There will be a trial and his defence will then be in the public domain."

In a broadcasting career spanning five decades, he is perhaps best known for his distinctive style of football reporting on BBC Radio 5 live.

Mr Hall was appointed OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to broadcasting and charity.

A BBC spokesman said: "In light of the very serious nature of these charges Stuart Hall will not be working at the BBC while the police continue with their inquiries."

At 82, I am surprised BBC still employs him!

Must be a misreporting.

Stuart Hall still compiles entertaining football reports, laced with Shakespearian quotations, for BBC 5 Live's 'Sports Report' at 5pm on Saturdays. There's quite a revealing 10-minute interview of him on YouTube here:

on the occasion of his 80th birthday

Oh dear, so these blood sucking leeches will continue to suck dry the blood of taxpayers, but won't retire even though they drawing pensions? Hmm...interesting!

There should be a cut off age, and 70 is a good limit I should think.

Not that difficult. There are plenty elements in it. Place of crime, whether victims were known to perpetrator, how etc.
The how, when, where, why etc and all that would have to be investigated ...

What is important is that the offenders names are out in the open and will no longer enjoy squeaky clean reputation if they'd been guilty as accused. Mud sticks. He will plead amnesia no doubt since it was a good few decades ago.
Note how he's another 'titled' gentleman who committed (allegedly) crime against children
