Hacked Off is a desperate bid by Gerry McCann to get into politics. Imo a long-held ambition as he had the jargon off pat from May 07.
Amber Alert European representative hasn't come off, Leveson was a short-lived promise of more and better to come, Hacked Off is a last throw. Imo of course.

Yes. What happened to the "wider agenda"?

Yes, he's like a terrier with a rat (with more than one meaning) between his teeth. He's going to shake it and shake it until it gives in.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is was promised a place in politics by somebody he knows and he is now holding them to that promise.
Amber Alert became a damp squid as no doubt people saw through him, but he's going for the alternative and won't give up easily.

Victims send open letter to PM urging action on press regulation

Victims of press harassment have sent an open letter to the Prime Minister ahead of his appearance at the Commons Liaison Committee on Tuesday, calling on him to clearly and speedily reject the self-regulation scheme put forward by parts of the press and expedite the sealing of the cross-party royal charter, backed by Parliament and the public.
Victims of press harassment will be present at the Liaison Committee hearing on Tuesday afternoon to watch the Prime Minister face questioning from MPs on the progress of the self-regulatory system for news publishers.

Equally astonishing is that the (so called) "hacked off" McCanns, weren't even hacked in the first place!
Their narcissism and lust to be in the news, knows no bounds.

Thank you tiny.
In the light of this new appeal to the Prime Minister by the 'Hacked Off'' campaign to implement Leveson in full, could I please renew my invitation to all of you here to sign my petition, on the Prime Minister's website, NOT to implement Leveson. It's here, and has 1,446 signatures to date:
http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/42582
It's simple to complete - and please tell others about it

They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Strange that the non-hacked McCann lead the list of signatures, but the prominent Hugh Grant and the DOWLERS are missing.

Re: Hacked Off Campaign.
What gives those 15 people the right to say how our press should behave, Are they doing it so the press can't print what they know about each individual? especialy the two at the top of the names.
The press know they have to change and are still working on how they can draw up their own guidlines
Press regulation: industry presses on with new watchdog despite reservations
Ipso expected to be running by early 2014 but Guardian, Independent and Financial Times still have concerns
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/sep/06/press-regulation-ipso-guardian-financial-times
Chatelaine, I hope the Dowlers distance themselves from them the whole thing, Hugh Grant is probably missing the nice publicity the press used to give him.

Re: Hacked Off Campaign.
Oh dear they really do seem hacked off, oh dear. They weren't hacked but they seem pretty hacked off - as others have asked, errrr why?
Libel hearing and reporting coming ever nearer, is it possible they are feeling a bit hacked off about that?
Mr. Amaral has reportedly said he will stand on the court steps and take quesitons and will readily answer them, could this be the reason for the sense of urgency?
Time will tell I suppose.

Re: Hacked Off Campaign.
Hugh Grant is noticeable by his absence, especially after his generous donations to Kate and Gerry for their recent fundraisers.
This is probably a last ditch attempt by the mccanns to ensure they get first approval on anything that is published in the future.

Oughtn't the McCs follow Kampfner instead of heading the list?
And did nobody inform JK Rowling of the undesirability of herself associating with this lot?
Who ARE all these people, anyway? Anyone care to enlighten me (if that's not attaching too much importance to a grouplet of 15 people bellowing for a one-sided curtailment of the free press of a democratic nation)

Press Regulation: Newspapers Expect Bad News
Danny Alexander insists no final decision has been made but reports suggest a press proposal on regulation will be rejected.
A decision on the newspaper industry's proposals for press regulation is expected soon amid reports its own charter has been rejected.
The sub-committee of the Privy Council looking at the plans is meeting again today ahead of the Council's own summit on Wednesday.
Danny Alexander, who co-chairs the sub-committee, insisted a final decision had not yet been made but sources suggested it was close.
The newspaper industry is braced for bad news amid claims politicians have concluded its plans are "flawed".
The Chief Secretary to the Treasury told Sky News that the committee, which met on Monday, was still "completing its deliberations".

Re: Hacked Off Campaign.
I can't express how outrageous it is that the press is threatened with state regulation by a group of largely anonymous wealthy individuals, headed by a man who has, with the aid of PR media manipulation and lawyers, repeatedly fed the media nothing but distortions of the truth. McCann has done everything in his power to prevent the facts of the investigation into the disappearance of his three year old child being known to the public, whilst at the same time, with enormous help from the media he wants to gag, raked in millions for his Private Limited Company.

Re: Hacked Off Campaign.
That's all right, but don't fret. When Kate was giving us the benefit of her predictions that there will be 'rioting in the streets', she didn't realise that they wouldn't be rioting for her, and her husband, but against what she and her husband are trying to force down our throats.tasprin wrote:I can't express how outrageous it is that the press is threatened with state regulation by a group of largely anonymous wealthy individuals, headed by a man who has, with the aid of PR media manipulation and lawyers, repeatedly fed the media nothing but distortions of the truth. There will be rioting in the streets if the ancient rights of the British Free Press are defiled.
The British public will NOT accept government/political control of the Free Press.

Re: Hacked Off Campaign.
Completly agree with both your comments. Rebecca Brooks said they would put Theresa May on the front page if there wasn't a review into Madeleine McCann, I've wondered if there was there a reason behind the Milleband story, more or less saying we know where the bodies are hidden on everyone?bobbin wrote:That's all right, but don't fret. Maria Miller, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, will make a statement on press regulation in the House of Commons later.
But the full Privy Council is not expected to meet and announce its decision on the press proposal until Wednesday. Its decision on the plan put forward by politicians and campaigners should be announced on 30 October.

NOW we know why Harman was so involved
Now we begin to understand why Harman was so keen to get involved in controlling the Press.
We understood why people like the McCanns and Hugh Grant, and Aline and all sorts of other people with things to hide wanted to,
but only now do we understand the Harman connection.
This is a reconstruction of the waiting room when they were told the Government was not going to give them what they wanted.

Re: Hacked Off Campaign.
Ahh, great timing, I stumbled upon this, this morning, it probably explains the atmosphere in that room. Hacked Off were putting huge pressure on Labour, Harriet Harman especially, and had leaked a Draft letter, a nasty one, that would be published if Labour did not side with them. Now I wonder who would use dirty tricks like that?
When oh when is someone going to wipe that smirk of his face!

Probably 'realising' that it's probably better to have somebody whose family member was PROVEN to have been phone 'hacked' and, sadly, 'killed'
Rather than a person, who has NOT been legally 'cleared' of possible 'involvement' in the disappearance of his own daughter, and who was not phone 'hacked'!
And a person, whose ONLY 'claim to fame' is his SAY SO that his daughter 'was abducted' without a scintilla of evidence, or proof, that an 'abduction' even took place.
As confirmed by his own legal counsel, under OATH, in a High Court, in England.
