I still want to know how a Charity can be a Limited as well? Or is it just included in the name?

This is the description of their activities:
MISSING PEOPLE OFFERS A LIFELINE FOR THE 250,000 PEOPLE WHO RUN AWAY AND GO MISSING EACH YEAR. FOR THOSE LEFT BEHIND, WE SEARCH AND PROVIDE SPECIALISED SUPPORT TO END THE HEARTACHE AND CONFUSION.

I wondered that to tigger, I said so earlier, it is listed on company check as a Private Limited Company.

Then surely the Charity Commission should be approached? We've had the whole weird Fund thing having to be a Company because they couldn't be a charity and a company!

So they must have a separate number to their Charity number for the company. I'll check out their site again - I expect that by law these details should be on there....

Directgov says

You may want to register your charity as a limited liability company if it's likely to deal with financial risks. This might be because:

it has a large income
it employs people
it enters into contracts to deliver or use services
it owns land or property

An example of a charity that is a limited company might be a local arts charity that organises promotional events. They might need to be a limited company in order to hire a lighting company for an event.

Not being a 'reader' of the Sun or a watcher of ITV I only saw the news when checking in to this site so I am still taking this in. Being a cynical so and so I cannot say I am surprised at this move as a 'role' was memtioned by GM many moons ago. Clearly having been an utter failure in the role of parent must be pary of the qualifying criteria to become an ambassador for this charity. It seems odd that it has the same name as an organisation in South Africa where I read one of the founders was adjudged to have been quite a dodgy individual. I also see that there seems to have been a lot of negative reaction which the charity doesnt seem to care about. Then when one looks at the rather insipid, sickly list of so called celebrity patrons then this charity seems rather lightweight and based on popularity rather than a serious attempt to do something about the issue. Some while ago I posted my opinion that this whole thing seemed like a job creation scheme for someone who as a child and adult appears to be a spoiled brat. Constantly changing tack, nothing ever perfect enough, attention seeking and unstable. This charity will lose any ground they have gained by this decision. Perhaps it will alter its name to Losing Children. Possibly now more suitable.

Sam ***** They KNEW that countless people would be strongly opposed to their appointing of Kate McCann as Ambassador of Missing People BUT still cling to the illogical belief that, despite evidence to the contrary, Kate is an "amazing ambassador" for the cause.

Sorry, but would the Admin of this Page please explain the rationale behind this conclusion?? Indeed, did any thought go into the writing of that Tweet? Please expand on that statement and, while you at it, can you also describe the criteria employed by MP, which resulted in eliminating all other contenders except Kate McCann?

I look forward to reading your reply.

Comments on Missing People site

Post by PeterMac on 10.07.12 15:09

Before they get whooshed..
Liz Newman ‎@ Polly Brown you are spot on there, with the McCanns its always been who you know! The fact of their total disregard for the care of their children has never come into it by the powers that be. Missing People Organisation included apparently now.

Roanne Trudi Greenway Non judgemental ..... Are you taking the pee !!!!!

Barry Smith So we now have facebook pages we can share around the internet. Oh well goodbye missing people, you are in real trouble now.

Paula Jones Missing People, you trust the police, why do you not trust all of the people here who are telling you they think that your choice is a bad one? We support the charity, do our strong feelings on this not count?

Roanne Trudi Greenway I have a sky dive and a marathon in aid of you guys , forget it now as if she doesn't step down then my fund raising will go to a charity will morals !!!
Karen Laverick No-one is asking you to judge Kate McCanns neglect of her 3 babies....just not to make her the ambassador of your charity....
Debbie Carden Wray ‎@Polly. I absolutely agree!!

Sam D Salway I will tweet the page

Paula Jones You may not be intentionally condoning leaving children alone but in your actions you are putting out the message that it's ok. You're justifying the McCanns going out every night and leaving their children in an unlocked apartment, and not only that, justifying them leaving them unattended where ANYTHING could happen. How do you rationalise this?

Nancy Watson If any of the usual suspects crawling through here today gave one DAMN for missing people then they would not be trying to derail a campaign which is there to help all the missing. But they would rather display their hatred of Kate Mccann - and their completely mixed up view of the case - than get behind it. It's a sad, sorry display of the depths of utter perverse depravity which they will sink to. I too am a donor to the charity and I APLLAUD them for appointing Kate. The complainers here can try asking the dozens of other families of the missing who have met her if they think it's an appalling idea - I doubt they will find one. Their view of Kate McCann is skewed by the ugly miasma their lies and misinformation over 5 years have placed over their eyes. They need to take their McCann goggles off and actually try doing something worthwhile to help the missing. Their misplaced energy and zeal could do so much if only they had better hearts and a more rational assessment of facts.

Barry Smith I have asked This morning if they will do a follow up tomorrow to the story if either Kate McCann has not quit or been got shut of. I am sure Missing people will not want any more bad publicity then what they have now.

Judy Turner How anyone who can describe the act of leaving babies/toddlers alone, crying and frightened night after night for many hrs in a dark unlocked apartment as 'an error of judgement' is beyond belief. Words fail me and I fear that making KM ambassador for Missing People is sending out a dangerous message to others.

Steve Morley I find it really reassuring that other people have severe doubts about the McCann's, until today I thought it was just a few of us but from the reaction to this announcement it is clear that many, many people don't believe the abduction "story". And Missing People should remember that there will be many more more out there who haven't actually had the time or inclination to post what they think.

Sam D Salway Everyone I know is calling/emailing This Morning. I have called emailed all papers and locals.

Barry Smith Yes my wife is e-mailing the Sun at the moment. Missing people are going down big time, don't see how it is going to survive at the moment. Someone's head is going to roll for this.

Gary Wyatt if kate leaves we will all donate money but until then how do we know the money isnt wasted like it is in her company called no stone unturned. only 13% on searching. why is she involved? its a disgrace to parents who need real help.

Nikki Evans THEY ARE STILL SUSPECTS IN THERE DAUGHTERS CASE .... how on earth did she even pass the c.r.b , you would think her 1st priority would b to find her own daughter and mayb start by answering the 48 unanswered police questions ,The files show that the only question Mrs McCann did answer was: "Are you aware that in not answering the questions you are jeopardising the investigation, which seeks to discover what happened to your daughter?"
She replied: "Yes, if that's what the investigation thinks."
so kate maybe start by answering the basic questions about ur daughters "dissaperence "and return for the reconstruction u keep avoiding . provide her medical records ect ,

Questions Kate McCann wouldn't answer
www.metro.co.uk

Jackie Bidgood-Owen I have shared this link on my wall and asked all my friends to share as well.......she has to GO now before she does any damage to a good charity.

Dawn Spencer Nancy how can u applaud them 4 making Kate ambassador? its so wrong . missing people read peoples disgust an get rid of her!

Liz Newman ‎@ Nancy Wilson. NO. It is nothing to do with what you spew at all, it is what her name stands for. Child Neglect. She has NEVER physically searched for her own daughter that she couldn't be bothered to care for, now you might not like it but that is the FACTS. How can someone become an Ambassador of other missing people when she couldn't even be bothered looking for her own. Admittingly she has made herself millions of pounds and got her own PLC, but that is not searching, that if filling her bank account. It is immoral the way she portrays herself after what she did to her OWN children.

Nancy Watson Sam, the one who started a bash the Mccanns faceBook page under the pretence of being a reasonable person? We all saw that, none of us believed you then and we already know many, many of the names here. They are long-running Mccann haters who have spent five years sharpening their pitchforks and never miss an opportunity to boot the boot in, even if a charity suffers. The person above claiming to be doing a skydive is a good example. She posted on the Make A Wish Foundation's page that she is doing it for THEM!!

Carla Oliveira This is pathetic. How can anyone in their right mind appoint Kate McCann as ambassador of this charity; knowing that it was all down to her and her husbands lack of good parenting. This is just a slap in the face for parents who have had their children missing for years and still have not seen or heard anything from the media or public. Do they deserve this?!?!?!

Daniel English Missing People Today Kate McCann launched a new initiative to find more missing people, for which we are very grateful. We offer non-judgemental support for all those who are missing and their families. We will never enter into unhelpful speculation. We trust our partners in the Police service and always co-operate with their instructions about appeals and support for families.

IM CONFUSED, are you offically saying you where instructed by the Police service to make Kate an ambassador?

Dawn Spencer Nancy read all the comments Kate mccann has no support off decent people!!

Sam D Salway Nancy come out of hiding on twitter, I have never been on the fence when it comes to neglect. NEVER EVER, and never will be. Now Nancy I don't know you, don't care for your comments. I stand for what I believe in and that's no child abuse. Clear!

Samantha Allen So am I right in thinking outrage was expected? Wow! if so that makes the decision even worse and makes people question the motives for this decision even more. i don't normally comment on the McCann case and don't know anyone else that does either, but more importantly I don't personally know anyone that supports them either when the conversation has arisen due to media hype....

Barry Smith ‎@ Daniel I am a bit confused as well, because i cannot see the police service endorsing this and also how the hell has she got a CRB check to work with children. Oh and Nancy you talk a lot of rubbish and you are in a minority of 1.

Liz Newman Well it appears both here and on twitter Nancy is in the minority. More and more people are reading the Official Police Files, the UK press and media might have been able to suppress the truth for 5 years, but now people are searching and reading, its all there for them to see. Our press and media ect should be ashamed. They have learnt nothing from Leveson. The McCanns are losing the support because people are finally reading and seeing the truth!

Roanne Trudi Greenway Just for the record have done 12 dives for charity and one half marathon , have a dive for missing people in August and make a wish in October for my 40th , also marathon next year.... So perhaps read alittle better , I raise alot of money for two charities close to my heart , my dad is missing and my friends child has a terminal illness .... No reason to lie !!!!

Sam D Salway Yes vile abuse to me on Twitter, i never did sweat the small people though, bring it on? The more you tweet me the more you bring awareness to the case. As you were Nancy.

Sam D Salway Roanne, don't even stoop to her pavement level. Well done you.

Jackie Bidgood-Owen ‎@Missing People.......I am in the process of fundraising for your charity but have come to the decision to hand back all the money (so far over £1500) I have raised to the people who kindly donated.Sorry you made the wrong choice in choosing Kate McCann.

Lynn Barnden This is a joke surely, what's Kate after?.... an MBE maybe. Kate and her husband Gerry were guilty of gross child neglect for leaving their 3 very young children, ALONE in an UNLOCKED apartment, in a foreign country on not just one night, but I believe every night of their holiday while they were out boozing with their friends. They never even used the free creche that was available to them, that's how daft they were. Madeleine could have even woken up, walked out the door of the apartment and got run over by a car, but as it happened, she was abducted (supposedly). There's a lot more to this case than meets the eye, and Kate and Gerry are lucky they never went to prison for child neglect, and now you have made her Ambassador for Missing People.... you need to have a re-think on this one, as it's a bad move, and judging by the comments on here and on This Morning's website, you need to do it very soon.

Sam D Salway Can Missing people answer the question of where they instructed by the police as stated?

Barry Smith If the Police did instruct them, then we need to know, as a enquire needs to be set up urgently.

Debbie Bartlett Well, without being judgemental I would just like to say that I believe this to be an inexplicable decision by Missing People and I am completely stunned by it. In my opinion, the image of a charity such as this, which does so much good, can only be damaged by appointing Mrs. McCann as an ambassador. Did nobody at Missing People THINK before making this move?

Judy Turner ‎@ Nancy Watson please take note: Posted by Sally Jones - " I helped raise thousands of pounds for your charity last year as part of Rock Choir at Wembley. I'll never put another penny in your direction again. And that's such a shame for the other missing people."

Samantha Allen I would just like to say that i think the people on here that seem intent on bringing this charity down now due to this decision are wrong also...I might not agree with the choice of ambassador but the charity itself is important and trying to stop people donating to it is wrong

Sam D Salway I am will call the Met and ask, see if I get a response.

Sam D Salway Samantha, I agree the charity is important, very important, so why have they risked it all. Shall we all just shut up and put up again?

Justine Bentley What do we do then Samantha Allen? Just say oh ok no probs?
Debbie Carden Wray I am sure there are many other worthwhile charities that support children, the missing and the homeless, I shall support these charities instead

Linda Strong Thank God that I have never been affected personally by having a loved one or acquaintance go missing but know of a person who has. This has to be wrong, I see the main points why and how it must make the people still hoping and waiting feel.

Karen Dolphin Pinto and next you will appoint Karen Matthews as her side kick!! DISGUSTING choice!

Sam D Salway Clarify, I would not try to stop people donating, people make thier own choices.

Judy Turner Samantha Missing People have stated they expected this would not go down well with the public yet still they went ahead.

Debbie Carden Wray I am with you on that. Sam, people are free to make their own minds up as to whether they wish to keep donating, I am simply expressing my own view, not seeking to influence anyone else,
Liz Newman ‎@ Samantha, no one is "trying" to stop people donating, i DID donate not any longer. If the Charity cared that much they would have chosen a "suitable" person to be Ambassador not someone that neglected her own children is such a way as one vanished. They have said more or less they knew this would not be a popular decision yet they still went ahead and did it. So do they care about the Charity or whoever was pulling the string to get Kate McCann this job? Seems like the latter to me!

Sam Wong They KNEW that countless people would be strongly opposed to their appointing of Kate McCann as Ambassador of Missing People BUT still cling to the illogical belief that, despite evidence to the contrary, Kate is an "amazing ambassador" for the cause.

Polly Brown It's not about whether an organisation is non- judgmental or not, it's about being seen not to condone leaving children alone and unsupervised. By appointing Kate Mccann it sends out the message that they do in fact condone this behaviour. The risk to children increases if other parents decide to emulate it.

imo KMcC will be ambassador for that charity as long as she continues to have a positive rather than negative effect on it. She was chosen ahead of Claudia Lawrence's father or Kerry Needham for the cynical business reason that she is the most high profile person in the UK associated with a missing child. If she is more of a liability than an asset she will be dropped for those same business reasons, she has not been chosen because she is believed or admired imo.
It is a shame that some people are withdrawing support due to her role, the charity has to take this into consideration because they need funds to continue operating.

According to the Missing People admin, they where taking there instructions from their partners in the Police Service regarding the appointment of Mrs Mccann as ambassador!!!. Go figure.

In answer to Kololi/Meagain earlier who said it was good that it was putting the spotlight on Missing People, I don't think it has turned out that way at all. What has happened is the spotlight is again focused on Kate McCann and the charity which does such worthwile work is getting a bashing. Typical everything is always hijacked. Here is a tweet that sums it up......

P*** E****‏@p********

Daniel English I would really like to know what Missing people Admin meant by instructions from the Police service?!!. Who are these `partners` ? please explain

Sasha Howe So Missing People has seen fit to REWARD Kate McCann for her negligence? What message does this send out to society? That it's OK to leave your tiny children alone every night of your holiday while you go out to dine & booze with your friends and even if it culminates in one of them going missing, then that's fine too?? This news has made me sick to the pit of my stomach!! Ask yourselves WHY the name 'McCann' has made it into the urban dictionary as the byword for 'neglect'.
I'm simply appalled by this poor decision by a charity that purports to have the interests of missing children at it's heart.
DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOUR ON YOUR PART!

Samantha Allen Sam and Justine attacking me doesn't help your cause either...I have made my opinion clear in other posts and share the same opinion as yourselves...I am just saying that its not right to try and bring down a charity because you don't agree with their methods...I'm not going to comment again as your attitudes are the reason I don't anyway.....too aggressive, achieves nothing!

Dawn Spencer having a loved 1 missing an not knowing what's happened 2 them must be heart breaking an its a very important charity but Madeleine Mccann is missing due 2 her parents neglecting her so the Mccann should not ever have anything 2 do with missing people!!

Dawn Spencer ‎*mccanns

Liz Newman ‎@ Samantha, I really don't understand what you are saying, except it appears that its ok for these Charities that I and many other probably commenting here to just put anyone in a position of trust no matter what their background? If that is what you are saying then I am sorry you are wrong. Would you put Garry Glitter in charge of a creche? Of course you wouldn't. Its nothing to do with bringing a Charity down, but I will not sit back and see a Charity that I have given to on a regular basis appoint someone who has done such an act as neglect and not state that I do not agree with it. They have made a huge mistake by not putting the Charity first, that is not my fault, it is "theirs".

Thank you, 1993 is quite some time. I see the original founders stepped down in 2004 though.

I don't know, there is something about that website I cannot put my finger on, the logo, the layout, indeed some of the wording. It has a familiar feel to it.

I will have a good look at it, will be interesting to see who pops up in the directors, patrons etc lists.

Hi PeterMac, I have merged your thread into this one, as I have already posted up lots of these comments, and otherwise posts from members will be split across two threads on the same subject.

I have left HdH as a standalone thread as it will be moved to her video section a bit later.

A reply from a representative of Missing People............

S**** G***** Well, I'm a mother of a missing son - he was 18 when he 'disappeared' 20 years ago - and I have worked for Missing People as a family representative for 2 years. I totally support the appointment of Kate McCann, having met her and worked beside her more than once I know she is a genuine person and a grieving mother. Yes, they left the children in the evening but under the particular circumstances, being in a closed resort, being close by and checking regularly, that's something many other parents would do too.

That's something many other parents would do She obviously knows next to nothing talking about it being a closed resort.

Thanks for posting the video HideHo. Very strange interview. Kate doesn't seem to have any enthusiasm for her new appointment whatsoever. Her posture is laid back almost to the point of lethargy and her voice is monotone. She doesn't seem to believe in what she is saying and seems resigned to the fact that she will again come into a huge amount of criticism or worse. Her reply on the SY question was vague, evasive, and she flinched at the mention of Stephen Birch, 'who is he?' she asks, not the expected 'as parents we need to know'.

I've just scrolled through the site, they're employing a large number of people, I'm surprised they have anything left of their donations to search for children.
The return for last year lists 43 employees, 44 now with Kate? Surely at say 35000 each I make that about 1.290.000,- per annum.

They've also done some (hopefully freely donated) website adjustment to show a suitably heroic and young looking Kate sliding across the screen from right to left - giving a dynamic feel to the whole thing. If they had to pay for it I hope it's not the 37000 or so which was the cost of the Maddie site for the first year.

Why am I beginning to feel that the only dynamics are in the requests for donations?

From bed smasher to charity ambassador. I have worked for several charities in my time, as do many, voluntarily. No publicity,no hype, but then I dont know anybody famous or leave my kids alone to go out on the vino night after night. Neither do I have a 'wider agenda' or spin doctors and an army of lawyers protecting my 'profile'. What actual results has this charity had? Are they just there to raise awareness? In which case it would appear to me imo that once again in this sad old country there is another institution where the lunatics are running the asylum.

A pity Kate was not asked if she was being paid as the site says this :

Everyone at Missing People welcomes Kate McCann as a new Ambassador. In her new role, Kate will be working with the charity, other Ambassadors
and Family Representatives to:

- Raise awareness and understanding of the 'missing' issue
- Help the charity to safely reconnect more people by promoting 116 000 - the new number for 'missing'
- Help to raise vital funds so that the search for every missing person can continue

Our thanks go to Kate for so generously giving the charity her time and energy.

will be interesting to see her appear in public for this launch as I would expect given her role, as she was not willing to meet the public for book signings last year.

If I had a missing child, I certainly wouldn't want Kate McCann on the case seeing as she openly admits to never having ever physically searched for her own daughter...

What I have understood from the interview:

That the McCanns aren't in a hurry to re-open the inquiry
That the police let them know about Birch and other publicity in advance (so does Murdoch run it past SY first?)
That she personally (or both) launched the Europe wide childline? Is this true? Are they paying for this?
That they have a dinky new travel kit for sale (free advertising for TM)
That she seemed a little put out and almost forgot to be happy about the child whose picture was going to head the campaign being found.

Despite the flapping hands and the jolly frock, there was a certain lack-lustre quality around the whole thing. The interviewers eyeing the autocue and Kate reciting her lines.

The lack of enthusiasm may well be because that's as good as it's going to get, Kate. This is your life for the next 50 years - even being 'ambassador' doesn't come close to the glamour of the early days - not a celebrity in sight.
The film rights which were being discussed so ardently in January 2008 don't seem to come off do they? Yet another documentary is going to be one bit of information too far - the public are losing interest, but we don't. So annoying.

Now in the Telegraph
"We are really pleased with the way the Scotland Yard review is progressing, It's in good hands.

"But what we need is for the Portuguese police to reopen the case. That is crucial."

Have they actually written to the PJ and asked?
