It's really heart-warming when the police open a cold case and get a result. Well done!

Familial DNA was the downfall of this rapist. His father was actually his biological father. I'm reading 'Under the Banner of Heaven' by John Krakauer at the moment which is about fundamental mormonism (fundamental latter day saints). Familial DNA would be a nightmare to prove in an inter-bred family of polygamists where the family tree is akin to the plans of a nuclear submarine.

Confusion is good.

Try also the murder of Colette Aram
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Colette_Aram
Offence 1983, arrest 2009
I worked on the case briefly. His son was DNA tested for a motoring offence which gave the family profile and lead to the arrest, conviction, and suicide of the father.
I am also convinced, on good but circumstantial evidence, that he was guilty of a rape of an 18 year old girl I dealt with a year before Colette was murdered. That happened only half a mile from where we now know he lived, at the end of a lane which has since been re-routed. But the DS and I remember it well.
No case is ever too old to be re-opened.
Remember that Tapas 7. And sleep well.

Here is another case that was solved after nearly 25 years by familial DNA.

That was an interesting one. The police continue to investigate even though Morley has been dead for 15 years.
Police do not give up. Cases are never closed, until there is a result.
Think on Tapas 7, and sleep well.

The other two slept well within 5 days. They told us so, so it must be true.

Amazingly the other two have apparently suffered psychological damage and lack of sleep for 'nasty' things said about them. Just look at the writ their non self-funded lawyers served.

Let us just remind ourselves of that.
They claim £215,000 each for emotional distress
They say they suffer 'permanent anxiety, insomnia, lack of appetite, irritability and an indefinable fear'.
The writ also says Kate McCann is 'steeped in a deep and serious depression'.

And there they are suffering

Terrible isn't it.

So probably what most parents with a missing child experience imo. How in a legal context are those emotions attributed to/blamed upon the specific actions of another person who questions/contributes to the search for Madeleine in a society of free speech? I'm fascinated as to how a price can be put on it. Is there some sort of matrix?

Apologies for going off topic. I'm rapping my own knuckles.

I think the topic was more or less at and end anyway.

They say they suffer 'permanent anxiety - not knowing who they will find when they answer the front door,
insomnia, - through worry that one day the truth will come out
lack of appetite, - at the thought of prison food
irritability - as they worry that the other will say or do something which will give the game away
and an indefinable fear - of being caught.

The writ also says Kate McCann is 'steeped in a deep and serious depression' - as she contemplates the probability that one day her actions will be exposed.

Just purporting a theory you understand. No foundation for any of it.
