The McCanns claimed the police did nothing...they felt alone...they wanted a 'Metropolitan type response'!

How dare they complain about the Portuguese Police!

While researching for a video about the Portuguese Response I am putting the police timeline together from GNR and PJ statements (in progress)

GNR & PJ activities and timetable from statements

This a very basic timeline of the police attendance times from statements that also included other officers not interviewed! I had to share.

(Keeping in mind the 40 minute difference before the police were called)

Looking for HideHo's Facebook address, I came across this topic I'd not seen before.

Let down by the police?

On the 5th they already had iirc at least two liaison officers from leicester Police.

I have a question here: would it be normal practice to send liaison officers and if so, why not the Met? Or is it normal to send officers from one's own catchment area?

Wednesday May 9, 2007

An email between Portimão and Lisbon of 9 May 2007 was the subject of a Freedom of Information (FOI) request asking for Ambassador Buck's communications related to the McCanns.

This email (or a portion of it) was withheld based on "Personal Information" exemption: Section 40 (2) and (3) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
------------------------------------------------
Further information emerged regarding the 2 additional experts Buck had announced on Tuesday May 8th.

Ambassador Buck said they were "kidnapping experts" and had joined the 3 other British investigators who had been in Portugal since Saturday 5th.

"... two 'Cracker-style' criminal behaviour experts from Britain flew into the Algarve yesterday to join investigators..."

They were from CEOP and their dispatch had been organised by the British Foreign Office.

"A spokeswoman for the CEOP said the move was unprecedented and had been organised by the Foreign Office."

From the book Madeleine:
From the minute he got up the next morning, ( 9th)Gerry was on a mission. Among the first people he spoke to was the ambassador, John Buck. The foreign secretary, Margaret Beckett, also happened to call him. He pleaded with them both to try to improve the way the investigation and the search were being handled. unquote

The official Madeleine McCann website is launched under the domain name bringmadeleinehome.com
-------------------------------------
So by the 9th of May:
Three British police officers
The Consul and Pro consul
A trauma councillor
A PR expert
The British Ambassador
Two Criminal Behaviour Experts
A phonecall from Cherie Blair with offers of help
A phonecall from the Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett
Ambassador conferred with the PM of Portugal Jose Socrates and senior police chiefs
Investigators were in close touch with Interpol and Europol.

Police have interviewed over 100 people and followed up 350 sightings.

McCanns say the police let them down - They felt alone - Police Timeline shows differently! Empty Re: McCanns say the police let them down - They felt alone - Police Timeline shows differently!

When one looks back nearly seven years ago to family TV interviews and press reports, the whole of Team McCann were telling the world two different stories. One, that they were grateful for police input and were co-operating with enquiries, and on the other that they felt the police were not doing enough.

The fact that they have had more column inches, more hours and more money spent on this case than any other missing person, shows that their demands for more, more, more are totally out of place.

Their mixed up versions of are they grateful for the help or are they not, suggests to me one thing. It suggests that although they have claimed over the years that they are working WITH the police and being kept informed about everything, perhaps this is not the truth (is it ever?). It suggests to me that the McCanns FEEL as though there is something that the authorities are holding back from them. After all, if this were not the case would they keep saying there is more that could be done? We all know that even since the review and £7million of taxpayers money down the drain, apart from some stupid media stories about 3 burglars they've been on the brink of arresting for months, diddly squat has materialised, at least as far as we know.

And their silence, welcome though it is after nearly seven years of them pushing themselves into the public eye with monotonous regularity, seems to point to their having given up on begging for money from the public. Could this, after all these years, indicate that perhaps the investigation IS making progress but perhaps not in the direction of random gypsies, petty thieves, vans full of cleaners, ugly spotty egg men and dead tractor drivers?

Could these years of trying to destroy the reputation of the PJ and the Algarve in general finally be coming back to bite them on their money-grubbing ar$es?
