Reward for finding Maddie: over two million pounds.
Just a short topic to clarify this point.
To the best of my knowledge, millions of pounds have been promised to whoever finds Madeleine.
I'm trying to determine the amounts and so to arrive at an exact figure - which should be well over two million.
Sir Richard Branson one million ?
J.K. Rowling ?
and someone I'd never heard of:
Tycoon Stephen Winyard, who donated £100,000 .
Winyard, who is worth about £30 million and has also offered a £1m reward for the four-year-old's return
So: That should be two million plus ....
Did Sir Philip Green also promise a reward?
Why is this information no longer posted either on the official website or mentioned in the many newspaper articles - especially since there have been a number of 'sightings'.
These promised rewards were widely publicised. I've not read anything to the effect that these promises have been withdrawn.

I have never heard of Richard Branson offering 1 million tigger. IIRC he offered £100,00 for the fund.

Re: Reward for finding Maddie: over two million pounds.
In this article in the Times it says "Sir Richard Branson - Contributed to rewards totalling £2.5 million after Madeleine’s disappearance. Has spoken to the McCanns several times and this month donated £100,000 to a fund for their legal costs. “I trust them implicitly,” he said. Is trying to encourage other wealthy people to contribute to the legal fund"

Thank you! It seems a standard fee for the McCanns? A token 100.000 for the fund and one million promised. It's a bargain!

Saturday May 12 2007
• Madeleine's fourth birthday.
Her parents mark the day by calling for people to redouble their efforts to find her. After spending most of the day away from Praia da Luz, the couple attend a special birthday mass in the village where Mr McCann speaks about the impact of the abduction on the family.
He also says for the first time that the couple are convinced Madeleine is alive.
The total reward being offered by business figures, celebrities and a national newspaper for information leading to Madeleine's safe return reaches £2.5 million.
I think it was News of the World that offered about 125.000 (my keyboard doesn't have pppppounds on it)?

Re: Reward for finding Maddie: over two million pounds.
Interesting quote "One entrepreneur, who refused to be named because of the delicate nature of the case, has given his backing in the past. But today he told the Evening Standard: "I am not going to contribute any more. It is a difficult issue and it is not something I propose to get engaged in.
"It is the most confusing scenario anybody has ever seen. I am not judge and jury and I hope what I am reading is wrong. I have not yet been approached [a second time] but I wouldn't put any money in.
"If they can turn the tide in some form maybe there will be loads of backers. But right now this does not look a good place to go."
And "Although the fighting fund set up to find Madeleine has raised more than £1 million, the trustees said the couple - who did not want to take the money anyway - would not be able to make use of the funds.".....Maybe using the funds for the search perhaps? Strange comment to say the least
From the first comment....he seems to be saying that financial donators (or backers) were approached to donate? maybe a bit of bulldozing? and why were they approached and asked to donate?mmmmmm

Re: Reward for finding Maddie: over two million pounds.
I can only see two people capable of picking up that reward.
Tell you what, if we can get a few more mugs like Branston to bump it up to £5m, they might just go for it

From the link given by Candyfloss:
A number of well known figures have publicly supported the McCanns including JK Rowling, Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson, Topshop owner Philip Green and EasyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
A second wealthy businessman, who has given £100,000 to the fund, said: "We won't be pledging any more right now. (that might be Stephen Winyard)
Only September and it was all over!

That was standard practice right from the start: Beckham was approached within days of 3/5. His TV spot went out either on the 11th or the 14th.
Rowling - according to the blog/diary was also approached. She consented to having a poster of Maddie in all the bookshops where her next HP book would be sold. But I think they wanted a sort of flyer in each book.

Re: Reward for finding Maddie: over two million pounds.
The letter asking for money actually appeared on their own website, and some newspapers, it is somewhere on here to, but can't find it, meanwhile found this ....
Desperate for help, the couple are launching an online petition asking the public to back them and demand the British and Portuguese governments do more to find Madeleine.
And they have sent out “begging letters” to sponsors, including author JK Rowling, tycoon Richard Branson, comic Jack Dee and other high-profile celebrities asking them to contribute to the fund.

Had a quick look-
One pound per hour for a multi-lingual call centre - but they told and still tell everybody to phone the local police, who would probably speak the same language if you're local? Or will find you a translator. Otherwise it's pretty reasonable for such a centre, I'd expect French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Russian - errrm how multi exactly? And where is this centre?
Nearly forgot, what's the number?

Re: Reward for finding Maddie: over two million pounds.
I remember there was quite a lot of discussion about that "begging" letter, as the papers called it. People were amazed, that they were asking for money when they had just announced they had been given a substantial advance on the book, which they had just announced. And yet in the same month they were sending out this letter.
Madeleine McCann: parents sign book deal
The couple will receive a "substantial" advance and the deal gives them "enhanced royalties" - a bigger than usual share of profits. The book, simply entitled Madeleine, will be published on April 28 next year to coincide with the fourth anniversary of her disappearance

Both the letter and the book deal and adance were in Nov.2010

Its notoriously interesting that instead of focusing on searching for their daughter and only thinking this and doing this....They are contacting all the wealthy and rich to get them to donate their monies!
