3 million pieces of silver

Post by tigger on 26.04.12 7:24

I'm trying to get ONLY numbers in this topic.
Just who has received what and when and why.
Just who is suing whom for how much and why.

The Fund - a forensic examination of the Madeleine Fund by Enid O'Dowd.

A review of the background to setting up the limited company Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned and a forensic examination of the company accounts

by Enid O'Dowd FCA

The accounts for 2011 do not show any evidence of the advance for the book having been paid into the Fund.
The amount of the advance is not known but thought to be well in excess of 250.000 pounds

Not a libel payout, but didn't they say last night that the McCanns were paid £1m for the book serialisation that appeared in the Sun.

Scotland Yard is benefiting by keeping 35 + officers and staff employed at no extra cost to their yearly budget.

The counter at present stands at 2.000.000 - 2 million.

The investigation has been allotted an amount close to 3 million but at present it is thought that more funds will be needed.

Yes they did. Very clearly.
News International paid £ 1m into the "Fund".

So, I did hear right, I mentioned it last night on the Panorama thread, but wasn't sure I heard right! This has been kept very quiet hasn't it. Wasn't it for the serialisation of the book? Weren't we told it was only £200,000 or have I got that wrong.

The Official Fund? It didnt show up in the accounts?
Perhaps another private Fund that mccanns keep for themselves more likely.

They didnt say what NI paid for though.
Assuming it is for serialisation then that is more than they got for bewk profit.

Extracts from the book were also published in the Sunday Times over at least two weeks. Would this be part of same deal? I have lost track of which news corporation controls which papers :)

So have I, considerable tracts were published in the DM as well. May be all part of the same deal.

It could well be over $3M pieces of silver since on one knows whether the mccanns were paid for their Hello Magazine interview or Vanity Magazine interview or Oprah Winnie show, etc etc...

But the money spent is equally impressive:

Método 3

Método 3 are the team of private investigators hired by the McCanns when they returned to the UK, after the Policia Judiciaria had made them 'arguidos'.

It is reported that the final bill for Método 3's work could be anywhere between £300,000 and £750,000 - but what were they doing for nearly two months before the McCanns announced that they had been hired?

And why was the decision to hire them, and release £300,000 of Madeleine's Funds' money, not taken by the board of directors but by Gerry McCann and the family's lawyers and financial backers?
Método 3, whose contract expires in March, has 40 investigators working on the case, here and in Portugal and Spain.

Each has a replica of Cuddle Cat, Madeleine's favourite toy, which they are encouraged to squeeze when they feel demotivated at the size of their task.

I was really referring to the amount being spent on the SY review. An amount set to achieve a certain goal.
So far it's not impressive, although Blacksmith seems to think otherwise.

Sun and Times are Murdoch News international.

Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday is Associated Newspapers. They also own most regional papers too, including the Leicester Mercury. If you want to post a comment The MoS is less censorious than the daily, as different editors.

Express and Star are sister papers, owned by Richard Desmond.

The serial rights would have been Murdoch's, any appearance elsewhere would have been puchased from them. Mind, knowing those two, anything's possible!!

They wouldn't do media interviews for free since they became highly marketable thanks to their missing daughter, though their stock is said to be depleting now at an alarming rate.

Would that this were so.

Now if in the beginning they had gone on TV and said "it's not like dining in your back garden, we will never forgive ourselves........" then I would still be sympathetic, but there has just been too much spin and obfuscation for this.

This is old, but interesting to know what became of the money the good Irish people donated to the Fund, thinking it was a charity.

TV3 chiefs refuse to hand over search cash; EXCLUSIVE MADDY FUNDS FROZEN.

Byline: By STEPHEN MAGUIRE

TV3 bosses have frozen a bank account holding thousands of euro raised by the Irish public to help in the search for missing Madeleine McCann.

Almost EUR25,000 was donated by broken-hearted viewers after the station launched its own appeal in June to raise cash to help find the toddler.

But the cash has since remained untouched in TV3's Madeleine McCann fund bank account in AIB headquarters in Ballsbridge, Dublin.

TV3 is now refusing to pass on the cash to the official Madeleine's Fund set up by her parents - because it is not a recognised charity.

And a spokesman for TV3 also admitted the cash raised may never go towards the fund.
He revealed: "It is the intention of TV3 to hold the funds in the account until a properly registered and recognised charity for Madeleine McCann is established.

"If such a charity is not established TV3 will either donate the funds to a registered charity in the area of child abduction and protection, or we may seek the views of the donors on how to disperse the funds."

The fund, which had the backing of the entire station including presenters Lorraine Keane, Mark Cagney and Alan Hughes, was launched in a huge wave of publicity on June 1 - three weeks after Maddy, four, vanished.

It was sparked after what a spokesman for TV3 called "intense viewership interest" in the story of the little girl who disappeared from her parent's apartment in Portugal more than six months ago.

The appeal lasted eight days and featured a number of special TV bulletins dedicated to the campaign to find Madeleine.

Thousands of donations rolled in from across the country, many conscious of the fact Maddy had strong Irish connections and that her grandmother Eileen McCann is from Co Donegal.

Madeleine's disappearance also regularly featured on the station's main news bulletins.

TV3's Lorraine Keane, left, also featured at the 50-day anniversary of little Maddy's disappearance at which hundreds of yellow balloons were released.

The host said: "Like so many people I am devastated by the abduction of little Madeleine McCann.

"As a mother, I can only imagine what her parents are going through."

TV3 chiefs now face a backlash for not telling viewers the cash had been frozen and for not releasing the money so it could be used to actively help in the search.

And despite the cash freeze the TV3 Madeleine McCann Fund Account No 08632098 remains open for donations.

A spokesman for AIB said the account was still active and in a position to accept donations.

Since depositing the cash raised, EUR24,345, the fund has also built up interest which has been added to the original fund.

A TV3 spokesman added that if necessary it would consult with its viewers if station bosses decided they were not giving the cash to the Madeleine's Fund.

He said: "We may seek the views of the donors as to the most appropriate manner in which to disperse the accumulated funds.

"TV3 will act in accordance with best practice in the circumstances."

Madeleine's Fund has so far raised E1.57million since it was set up.

The fund - formally called Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Ltd - is not a registered charity but a not-for-profit company because its scope is not wide enough to get charity status.
