Does sociopathy go hand in hand with this type of liar or are the two conditions separate issues.?

It's the old joke of 'mind over matter', they don't mind (lying) and you don't matter.

No, I didn't know that, thanks. Waiting for part 2 with bated breath. Brilliant find!
You don't need to wait, tigger! Part 2 has been there ages - I read 1 and 2 together (if you recall, I posted about it) For me, the articles are good but the comments take it further... There is a poster named 'hobnob' who is pretty incisive!
If Part 2 isn't there, its been taken down for some reason, its definitely been done - I'll have another look :)

Excellent! Just read it all, the Hobnob poster particularly is very good.
I love the 'not owning a statement' - amazing how the brain refuses to cooperate. It's truly a minefield to start telling lies.

Very interesting. Can anyone tell me who or what 'Seamus O'Riley' is? Just like to understand where he is coming from.

I have no idea who he or she is but I don't need to know either. Why does it matter?

I think it matters in so far as establishing whether these articles are based on a professional opinion of a qualified psychologist, for example, or random thoughts of an amateur blogger. I say this without wishing to devalue his efforts in any way at all.

It is my understanding that Seamus O Riley is a site name. I understand its a group of forensic linguists and students (good ones at that)

That is interesting, thanks. - I very much like the idea of 'owning' a statement. I'm trying it out on my sister who has severe problems with reality.
I find that indeed, she doesn't 'own' her statements very often. laughat

Seamus O'Riley

Post by Ribisl on 17.02.12 18:32

"Seamus O Riley is Peter Hyatt's internet name. A detective is also called a shamus, pronounced the same as the first name "Seamus". Peter aka Seamus is an investigator and statement analyst."

By all accounts he (or they) is quite prolific and I find some of his analyses fascinating.
