An aunt of missing youngster Madeleine McCann has described a new book about her disappearance as “truthful and scathing”.
The girl’s parents, Gerry and Kate, have secured a multimillion-pound deal to write an account of their search for their daughter, who vanished from a holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007.
Money raised by sales of the book, entitled Madeleine, will be used to pay for their ongoing hunt for the child, who was aged four when she disappeared.
The couple, who are both 42 and have five-year-old twins Amelie and Sean, revealed recently that their search fund was dwindling.
Mr McCann’s older sister Philomena McCann, 46, who lives at Ullapool in Wester Ross and is head of social subjects at the local high school, said Kate had finished writing and the book was being edited.
Ms McCann said: “Kate is mainly doing it and I know she has written some very truthful and scathing things relating to the Portuguese police.
“When Madeleine went missing we thought it would be really important for Kate to keep a detailed journal and she felt it was important to keep an account of everything and some of it has been used for the book.
“I don’t know if I will be able to read it myself. I have been thinking about it but I think I may find it too upsetting.
“Kate and Gerry feel a real responsibility that they don’t want to continue asking the public to support them, and that support has allowed them to go on.
“They think about what they can do to help themselves and they came up with this idea.”
The book will be published on April 28, 2011 – to coincide with the fourth anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance from the Praia da Luz resort.
Ms McCann said the family, who live in Rothley in Leicestershire, were regular visitors to the Highlands and “loved” travelling north with their children.
She added: “They will be spending Christmas at home, but we will meet up with them at my mum’s after Christmas. Amelie and Sean are amazing, most of the time the family just get on with things as much as they can but sometimes they just can’t.”
On their website dedicated to Madeleine – www. findmadeleine.com – Mrs McCann says: “There are several different reasons as to why I finally came to the decision with my husband Gerry to write and publish a book. My reason for writing is simple; to give an account of the truth.
“Publishing this book has been a very difficult decision and is one that we have taken after much deliberation and with a very heavy heart.
“Every penny we raise through its sales will be spent on our search for Madeleine. Nothing is more important to us than finding our little girl.
“We are hopeful that this book may help the investigation to find Madeleine in other ways too. Our hope is that it may prompt those who have relevant information, knowingly or not, to come forward and share it with our team.”

Did Madeleine really "disappear" on April 28th ?
I would have thought May 3rd was the official day.

Wasn't it only last week that the book was only part completed according to newspaper reports, that was quick work then

It's up to the ghost writer now to edit out all the erms! and you knows!, which will no doubt reduce the content by half and something comprehensible put in it's place, which is probably the hardest part.

Oh dear, she has let the cat out of the bag that KM has been keeping a journal for the eventuality of their book, and the book is about their truthful and scathing story about the PJ! So it isnt going to be about how Maddie was taken.
It's going to be a 'bash' the Pj and look at 'woeful us' book no less.

Err....didnt they say it was 348 pages? How did they know? Of course it was finished donkey years ago.
How did the 6000 words came to be in the public arena? Strategy perhaps in order not to give the impression book was already in pipeline with KM diligently keeping journals.
This is KM idea of working full time at home searching for her. She spent nearly 4 years keeping journals then transferring them into this book. She hopes to find 'vanished' Maddie in her pages and every page she flip is money and she keeps flipping until she turned 348 pages into the multi-millons sterling pound deal. Easy money. Err ......who says crime doesnt pay?
Would be interesting to read her scathing story about the Portuguese police. Hell will have to freeze over first before I buy their shites.
Wonder who is doing the editing or is it censoring by lawyers if it is about denouncing the PJ?

Re: Missing Madeleine book is ‘truthful and scathing’ - Philomena McCann
The book, as many of us suspected, will not be about Madeleine, it is all about doing their utmost to discredit Amaral before his book is published in the UK and, of course, making lots of money. A couple of days ago on their Facebook Site, the McCanns posted to a link to Vee8's 'Amaral-Bashing' blog, along with the comment The Reason Why Kate is Writing A book
Official Find Madeleine Campaign A Tale of Two Bookies. Why Kate is writing a book.

I'm trying to imagine abandoning my kids for several nights, one going missing, suspected by the investigators to be dead at my hands and having the cheek to write a woe is me book about MY trauma, more hard to imagine is anyone wanting to buy my book. its a funny state of affairs.

It certainly is a sad reflection on society when we have the McCanns being treated as celebs in the media. If, by any chance, they will be appearing at book-signing events, perhaps that would be a good opportunity to hand out leaflets listing the questions we want answers to.

We have to remember that very few television companies and newspapers left OJ Simpson out in the cold. One also recalls many reporters skipping about with glee, on account of having captured a few kind words from Harold Shipman.

Thanks but it does beggar belief the cheek of them and worse still our country in not just allowing them to get away with it but aiding and abetting them to and handing them money for the pleasure. Makes my blood boil.maebee wrote:soulthief wrote:I'm trying to imagine abandoning my kids for several nights, one going missing, suspected by the investigators to be dead at my hands and having the cheek to write a woe is me book about MY trauma, more hard to imagine is anyone wanting to buy my book. its a funny state of affairs.

You know it is getting near Christmas when Aunty Phil appears...she has clearly been gotten down from the loft for her annual appearance.

I seriously begin to doubt whether anything TM and their immediate family say or do matters anymore.
It can be as contradictory as they like, or refuting a previous statement - any number of similar media announcements/statements about any aspect of the disappearance of Madeleine - it doesn't really matter. Even publishing the case files has had absolutely no effect on any possibility of prosecution of anyone.
They have snared the media and newspapers, the Home Office and Government - we could all stand on the highest hill and shout out loud that something stinks - nothing will happen.
We may as well be speaking another language.

BTW, just caught my attention their publisher is called 'trans-world' as in transit from one world to another.
How apt ...who can ask for a better named publisher for their kind of book? A book hiding their deed against their child who has transited into another world according to the Police.

How right we all were
I've just come across this old topic and I can safely say that the book was every bit as bad as we thought it would be. Angelique, your post on 26/11/2010 is even truer now than it was then with the complete reversal on the coloboma issue.
