Wouldn't it be bizarre if someone within the BBC was a donor!

Certain people always shoot themselves in the foot, I dont believe that they were hacked or victims of press intrusion, so what is really going on snd who is behind it all? Feigning victimhood and getting involved here may have been their biggest mistake so far, maybe this will catch them out.

It would be very interesting to know what business interests donors have.

The areas of particular interest being healthcare, pharmaceuticals, digital media, wind farms, solar energy and telecomms. I believe people within these business areas would rather not have the press rummaging around.

Follow the money.

To answer the title of this thread, the funders seemed apparent to be people who support the Left Wing, playing one political party against the other political party.

Tory got Murdoch as bed partner, and Labour got Hacked off as bed partner, all fair and square.
Politicians are just ambitious maroons who kowtow to the 'Rich' because that's where the next-election-funding -money is going to come from. And in turn the supporters with money will watch their wealth grow because their interests and investments will be protected by the elected-in Government of Choice. It's called scratching each other's back.

It's a silly game of politics among politicians of the various parties; and maybe even among members of the same party.

Funders names are nothing to set alarm bell ringing for the Politicians.

Mainly individuals from the entertainment and banking industries looking after their self interests either because they have a few skeletons in the closet, or being pre-emptive of future scandals.

Jemima Khan helped bankroll Hacked Off campaign with £5,000 donation

The pressure group refuses to reveal its donors

Separate four-figure sum reportedly came from her mother

By Michael Seamark

PUBLISHED: 00:42, 10 May 2013 | UPDATED: 00:43, 10 May 2013

Heiress Jemima Khan has helped bankroll the campaign group Hacked Off with a £5,000 donation.

The pressure group, which sat in on late-night talks at Ed Miliband's Commons office when the Royal charter on newspaper regulation was agreed by the three political parties, refuses to reveal its donors.

But the writer and socialite confirmed yesterday that she is one of the wealthy backers of the organisation fronted by her ex-boyfriend Hugh Grant.

Ms Khan said her donation was made to the Media Standards Trust - the organisation which spawned the Hacked Off campaign.

A separate four-figure sum reportedly came from her mother, Lady Annabel Goldsmith. Hacked Off has come under increasing pressure to disclosure the source of its income.

Two months ago the group refused to tell MPs the names of rich individuals financing its fight for a Press law and academic Brian Cathcart, a co-founder of the group, was heckled at a Glasgow literary festival when he declined to unmask donors.

Professor Cathcart told the Commons committee in March that Mr Grant had donated 'quite substantial' damages he received from News International over phone-hacking.

But he would not name other individuals, leading one MP to Tweet: 'The champions of openness that is Hacked Off refuse to name large private donors in non-answers to my questions.'

Ms Khan has used her home to host star-studded events to promote the Hacked Off campaign. She allowed actor Mr Grant to host a fund-raising dinner there and she held Christmas drinks for people who had complained about the press, their lawyers and her friends.

Her brother, the millionaire Tory MP Zac Goldsmith, has been a long-standing supporter of Hacked Off and attended its launch in July 2011 with Mr Grant at the House of Lords.

Deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman, one of those present at the controversial meeting in Mr Miliband's office in March, told others present: 'I was texting Zac Goldsmith on his honeymoon for God's sake.'

The late Sir James Goldsmith, billionaire head of the family, had a notoriously prickly relationship with the Press, in the Seventies issuing 63 libel writs against Private Eye.

He once said: 'You have heard of the power of the press. Now you will discover the power of money.'

Both Ms Khan and Mr Goldsmith are journalists. She is European editor-at-large of Vanity Fair and associate editor of the New Statesman. He is a former editor of The Ecologist.

Ms Khan put up bail for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, wanted in Sweden on rape and sexual assault allegations and who is currently holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy.

Ms Khan's £5,000 donation was made in August 2011 and came from the Jemima Khan Foundation, a registered charity established 'to promote charitable purposes for public benefit, with particular reference to the promotion of human rights, the relief from need of victims of conflict and natural disaster, the advancement in life of young people and the relief of poverty.'

All but £1,500 of the Foundation's £122,600 income for the year ended March 2012 came from the JMG Foundation, a body set up with money from her father Sir James.

On its website the only funding Hacked Off discloses is a £50,000 grant over 2012-13 from the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust and over £20,000 it says it is soon due to receive from the Journalism Foundation, a charitable body set up by the owners of The Independent newspapers.

Hacked Off said: 'We do not regret accepting money to fund our activities from some people who did not want their donations made public.

'We understand and respect their desire to avoid the kind of hostile treatment that has been dished out to people who openly criticise the press, and we are grateful to them for their generosity.

'We are grateful too, to the very many generous people who have given money openly. We have been open from the outset about our funding.'

Ms Khan said: 'My donation was to the Media Standards Trust (a charity) for use for Hacked Off in line with their charitable purposes. I am on record as a supporter of Hacked Off, after hosting events to help them raise a tiny fraction of the funds available to the powerful owners of newspapers.

'The all-party agreement is a major achievement for such a small campaign group, especially when set against the vast resources of the press.'

Her mother Lady Annabel would not comment

Well, that's the point isn't it really, of Hacked Off? So if the above individuals refuse to divulge their interests, they are basically buying silence so their past and future 'private' lives are never discussed unless they allow this.

thinking Well, being caught by the police committing a lewd act in public isn't very private to start off with - such individuals could have nothing but 'good' publicity courtesy of HO. How would that work? Close the public galleries in the courts?

For donations over £ 100,000,- complete anonymity is guaranteed. No-one will ever know that you were a donor. No-one shall ever print a single word about you which has not been passed by our resident censors and your good self. etc.

Only problem I can see here is that it's not so easy then to take the press to court in order to get a massive compensation for them printing information that you've previously leaked, just so that you can sue them.
Unless you've already been there, done that, in that case Hacked Off is a better option for more than one reason.
