Staff notebook in reception

p. 56 “It wasn't until a year later, when I was combing though the Portuguese files, that I discovered that the note requesting our block booking was written in a staff message book, which sat on a desk at the pool reception for most of the day. This book was accessible to all staff and, albeit unintentionally, probably to guests and visitors, too. To my horror, I saw that, no doubt in all innocence and simply to explain why she was bending the rules a bit, the receptionist had added the reason for our request: we wanted to eat close to our apartments as we were leaving our young children alone there and checking on them intermittently.”

p. 325 "It was here [combing through the files] I found the receptionist’s note in the Ocean Club staff message book explaining that we wanted to book the Tapas restaurant for the rest ot that week because we were leaving our children alone in our apartments. I was dismayed. This was a green light to a child-taker - and yet no mention of it is made in the files until December 2007.”

In what language was this note written ?
If in English it may rule out a Portuguese, or ‘foreign’ abductor. Unless he is skilled at reading English handwriting, upside down across a desk. And which desk ?

Or are we to believe that the staff notebook was left on the reception desk in full view, and open at the McCann’s special page for the entire week, and facing guests and visitors.

Kate says it was on a desk in reception. Is there a receptionist on duty during the day ? The resort says there is 24 hour reception.

If so, did that receptionist not notice the spotty, smelly, mumbling, stooping person with bad breath and funny clothes, walking with a limp, smelling of garlic and being ‘Stereoypically Foreign’ as he tried to read the book upside down across the desk in case it contained details of a perfect blonde child abandoned every evening by its parents, with details of which doors in which apartment would be left open, and how often checks would be done.

Really ?

Are we also to assume that this person visits reception regularly throughout the year trawling for details of this sort. And that the staff message book was left open at the relevant page for the entire week, with nothing else being written in it.

The more Katey tries to blame everyone else, the more bizarre the story gets. One day even the most fervent believers will start to look more closely at what is being said.

It also shows up a huge discrepency as I posted a few days ago, where they say in this video they didn't think they would get into the Tapas.

candyfloss, I missed your earlier analysis, thank you for posting up yet another clear discrepancy, which we'll add to our list. And thank you PeterMac for a brilliant, withering put-down of the appalling attempt by Dr Kate to blame a Mark Warner receptionist for Madeleine being abdcuted.

I thought that it would be hard to top the lunacy of how the McCanns explained away everything that led to the conclusion that Madeleine had come to harm in the apartment. However they've certainly come up with a good contender with the note left at the restaurant. Are there any statements from Mark Warner employees which support the McCanns' request for a table near the door? Not of course that where they sat had any relevance to their ability to be within easy reach of their children.

The bit I've highlighted in red sounds like they were leaving there children alone, and asked for the Tapas - but what if it was booked, would they have gone elsewhere, further away? The way it is written as a statement of fact suggest maybe they would? There was a lot of talk on the 3A's that said they had gone to Chaplins one night after the Tapas, don't know if that's fact or a forum myth?

REPLY: I don't believe for one moment when they said they 'nearly went to the Millennium', as Dr Gerald McCann claimed in 'One Year On', that they were telling the truth on that occasion. Dr McCann meant us to believe that if they'd had a buggy, they would have gone there with the children that night.

REPLY: That's certainly not been admitted by any of the 'Tapas' group, nor has it been in the PJ witness statements, nor has it been substantiated in any other way, so far as I know. Someone very early on claimed they'd all been to Chaplins on Tuesday and that there had been complaints about a crying child, leading to the McCanns being summoned by Ocean Club staff to go and see to the children. This was of course the very night that the late Mrs Pamela Fenn was said to have heard Madeleine crying 'Daddy, Daddy' in distress for 75 minutes between 10.30pm and 11.45pm that night. That has led some people, among them Steve Marsden (alias 'Stevo' and Brian Johnson of 'Faked Abduction fame) to suggest that Kate McCann arrived back in a temper at 11.45pm to quieten Madeleine and that there was an 'incident' that took place then which may be relevant to Madeleine's disapperance. I don't know if he sustained this theory in 'Faked Abduction' as I've never read it.

With an open mind, one could also wonder if another person in the reception area simply heard the request for the Tapas Bar bookings being made and the reason why.

There is a possibility that somebody read the booking book I suppose but there is also an equal possibility that their arrangements were overheard or witnessed at any time during the holiday.

Having looked again at the plan of the resort, there are 2 'Receptions'.
The main one is staffed 24 hours but is nowhere near the Pool reception which is the one just down the lane from the open apartment.
Katey says the message was in the Ocean Club staff message book. Which implies Main reception, and main offices.
But that is a long way from the Tapas restaurant and the Pool reception.
It is confusing, to say the least.
