I think that Cuddle Cat website was one of Gerry's ideas. A money earner, in the same school of thought as taking pictures of Kate in a swim-suit. A repulsive idea, but someone had the good sense, to dissuade him. I think they were hoping that the Cuddle Cat name would catch the imagination, everyone would want to get one, it would be a high fashion item. About 10 years ago I worked in the US, and a British show for children was aired, it was called Telly Tubbies, and the country went wild. You could not get the toys in any stores, people sold them on Ebay for enormus sums of money, whenever they appeared on the shelf in Walmart there were lines of people fighting with each other to get one. I am grateful that my children were too old then to be interested in Telly Tubbies, because I know that I would also have been captuered into the madness. I think the McCann wished for Cuddle Cat to rocket to star-dom in the same way. Perhaps there are boxes of cuddle cats in the garage of Mr Gerry. Perhaps those are the cuddle cats that the detectives of Metodo 3 took to work with them for when they became demotivated. laughat

I think you are right. It is just like Gerry to be thinking about any way to market an item to bring in Funds. Its horrible to think but it does seem that this was thought about in great detail.

I wonder if they thought the same about the Princess Blanket - but surely the owners have copyright of these items - would they have allowed someone else to market them.

It's called cybersquatting

(or, preventing someone doing the same - now, ask yourself why would some budding entrepreneur w a n t that name - after all, it is associated with something horrendous up to and including murder)

Now

Also ask yourself why protect " the brand"

Because to me this all reeks of Tavistock type social engineering and therefore premeditation on someone's part

Down the line expect a marketing campaign for cuddlecat, similar to the yellow wrist bands of a famous cycler, incidentally now facing very serious charges over long term...

Maybe you'll get a microchip with each one!

It took nanoseconds to set up the 3.5m fund, and get all press cops sis etc on team McCann, someone has thought throughanaging the brand very carefully indeed

And:

Stella quoted from Matt's Rogatory statement:
"were all going, oh perhaps we'll be the Billy no mates, the really unpopular ones will get stuck at the Millennium and we won't be able to, we won't be able to go out and visit our friends because we're not going to leave to go and see them and we won't be able to share child care and so it would be fairly difficult and it was a big issue because they couldn't guarantee, the couldn't allocate the rooms for us and they said it'll have to wait until you get in the resort but in the end it was sort of quite quiet and so they sort of could stick us really close together. I can't remember why I started talking about that?"

If you look at these two statements it says a. They didn't want strangers looking after their children and
They wanted rooms close together so they could share child care.

Why would they not want free child care with the same carers and for free ? Because they don't want "strangers" per se. I don't think they wanted anyone anywhere near their apartments - not at all.

Why would that be?

Also they wanted rooms close together so they can share child care - so we believe that meant they took turns to be sick and all children were left together in one room. Which meant all the other apartments were vacant every evening.

So we have nobody hanging around and vacant rooms.

My thinking too, and Goncalo's it would seem

I think the cuddle cat website would have gone on the back-burner after the news of the dog tracing cadaverine on it. "The toy with added death scent" isn't exactly an alluring marketing ploy.

Post by TrollAng on 12.12.11 19:15

I've just been on the Actinic (online store) website. All of the store forms will be standard forms and the company name will come from some information field that's set up on the business settings so that should say "Find Madeleine Fund". I think it might take the year of installation which might be 2006 if Callum MacRae was already designing websites then it would make sense. Will do some research to confirm.

The dates for the websites according to Pamelam:

09/05/07 www.bringmadeleinehome.com
16/05/07 www.findmadeleine.com
26/05/07 www.cuddlecat.co.uk
29/05/07 www.cuddlecat.org.uk

Hadn't come across this before, it's easy to see how the date causes confusion.

However what strikes me here is the agressive method of selling.

In the first place the blessed thing is called a 'Fighting Fund' , to go with it we have the word 'campaign' for the T shirts.

This leads me to think that some very astute and experienced marketing advice was obtained - once again, I don't believe this happened after 3/5/07 but well before.
'Branding' the product, the unique coloboma - although registering the trademark could not really be done before 3/5/07.

Am confused Tigger, the explanation for the 2006 date is that it was the date that the young man set up a template, for future use but what for unknown, to be used 07 for the Maddie site? Is that it?

Apparently, the 2006 refers to the date that the template was created by whichever commercial enterprise creates and sells templates. i believe they're often free.

It's confusing though to see 2006 before the findmadeleine site name.

I am not good with this sort of thing, I'm sure a brighter person than I here will explain. It may be that free templates are provided if you select a provider/server?

Free templates are available all over the internet - and have been for years. You don't need to have an ISP set up - you can create your website locally on your computer and then upload it to whatever server you're going to use with whatever ISP is going to host it. You can certainly choose an ISP after the fact. Creating a website is the same as creating any other kind of document - it's just a series of pages using coding, that you work on with a program like Dreamweaver, and once you've got the entire website created, you upload it to whatever ISP you've set up your contract with for hosting. If you have good website creation skills you can create a website from scratch, but it takes a lot longer than just using a ready-made template and adapting it for your own purposes.

Hope this helps!

Edited to add: If you wanted to get a website up and running quickly - as would likely be the case with the McCanns and the Madeleine thing, I suspect you'd use a template rather than having to go through a "build from scratch" process, which would involve a lot more testing (and a lot more skill!).

Yes the findmadeleine.org URL expired on 14 May 2010 according to the above registration info. Not renewed after 14 May 2009, which is when it was last updated.

You have to register your URL before it can go live (there is a fee for registration). It was created on 14 May 2007, so it was active for at least two years and then allowed to lapse on the anniversary of the third year.

Can't remember the website and Wayback Machine doesn't have it archived.

On 4/5/07.

The speed at which they set up the site is staggering.
It would mean thoughts going into the setting up of a site and name selections etc were already under discussion before the 14th.
11 days after Madeleine disappearance they already knew she was not going to be found for a very long time and that they are going to be needing a fighting fund.
Dodgy behavior like that is often associated to low life scammers out to make quick bucks .
Coming from a pair of middle-class doctors does not render it any less suspicious in fact more so.
It was clear from the outset the Fund was originally never intended for the search when uncle Brian announced it can be used for purpose of helping the Mccanns ie for paying legal fees.
Using fund for PI must be a hard decision for them knowing they are just throwing away money to no purpose where no return is possible. They must have been advised against being seen to use fund for self-serving purpose only rather than for Madeleine purpose.

Thanks for the replies re templates. I am wondering though why one was downloaded in 2006 and not used for a year. It does seem odd to see the year 2006 mentioned.
Perhaps this guy downloaded a few and created various web sites and this was a spare that he used the following year.

Still strange to me but it is a subject I know nothing about.

The template could have been created in 2006 and never updated, therefore it was out there to be downloaded from 2006 onwards. It's not unusual and not in the least suspicious, as far as I can see. They just basically grabbed a template that was created in 2006 and used it to make their own website in 2007.

I've created websites for myself and used templates that were created 2, 3 sometimes 4 years prior to the date I actually downloaded and used them. There are so many sites out there... here's one, for example:

http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/

I think in 2006-2007 there were fewer choices for templates, but they were still out there :-)
