Kate McCann's book Madeleine has become one of the fastest selling non-fiction books since records began in 1998.
Her book about the abduction and continuing search for her daughter has sold more than 72,500 copies since it was released on Thursday, taking it straight to the top of the official UK book sales chart.
Only five other non-fiction books have registered stronger sales in their first week.
Two were cookery books by Delia Smith and the others were the autobiographies of David Beckham and former Prime Minister Tony Blair and a book by Princess Diana's butler, Paul Burrell.

Waterstones said its sales of Madeleine have been strong in its two Leicester stores and its branch in Loughborough.
More than 80 copies have been sold at the city's Market Street branch and a further 150 have been ordered to meet demand.
The store's senior book seller, Kim Addison, said: "There has been a huge demand here and the copies have gone very quickly.
"Our big sellers are normally cook books and this has really out performed them.
"That is not a surprise given the local interest. Around 100 have gone at our Highcross store and a lot in Loughborough.
"People are always interested in a tragic story and this is certainly that. They want to know from her directly things like how it felt to be a suspect in the case.
"Kate has put a lot of effort into writing this book and our customers have responded very positively to it.
"They like the fact that the royalties will help pay for the search for Madeleine."
Philip Stone, charts editor at thebookseller.com, said: "We always knew this book would be big but it has still surprised a lot of us.
"The sales success is also surprising given that this is not a time of year when book sales are normally strong."
The 384-page book has knocked celebrity chef Jamie Oliver's Jamie's 30 Minute Meals off the top of the charts, where it had been perched for 32 consecutive weeks.
Industry experts say that overall book spending in the UK rose 7.2 per cent week-on-week to £24.9 million, largely down to Madeleine.
The book's serialisation in The Sun is also thought to have played a major part in the sales success.
All the proceeds from the sale will go to the search for Madeleine, who went missing aged three during a family holiday to the Portuguese resort of Praia de Luz in May 2007.
Following the publication of the book, the Metropolitan Police is to renew the search for the Rothley youngster at the request of Prime Minister David Cameron.

Re: Madeleine book tops UK charts with 72,500 sales
72,500 times 72p royalty, which is probably twice what they would get on a book at £ 9Belle wrote:Madeleine book tops UK charts with 72,500 sales
[b]"They like the fact that the royalties will help pay for the search for Madeleine."
equals £ 52,200
Less the generous advance of £ 200,000 we have been told about, means the McCanns now OWE
£147,800.
The publishers will not be happy cuddle-cats
