Gerry and Kate McCann: Safety questions "quite frustrating for us, because Madeleine is still missing"
Gerry and Kate McCann talk to Piers Morgan tonight for the hour in a worldwide exclusive about the search for their daughter Madeleine four years later. They discuss the search, the emotional toll and their new book.
In this clip, Morgan questions the couple about the safety of the complex where Madeleine disappeared. "We did what we thought was best in the kid's routines," said Gerry. "I take your point, but for me, if your children are asleep upstairs in a bedroom, and you're dining in the garden, you're out of sight and you can't hear them. And that's the similar thing to me. ." But The McCann also spoke about the frustration of the safety questions.
"I think the worst thing, about the focus on our behavior – and if we could change it we would have, we can't change it – but it takes the focus away from the abductor," said Gerry. "And that becomes quite frustrating for us, because Madeleine is still missing."
Watch the full interview tonight at 9pmET/PT.

Thanks Dougall, that's UK time is it?
Mind you if that taster is anything to go by it will be the same old, same old. Although Piers Morgan pushes them on the issue it wasn't as secure as your home, he never mentions the fact that they left the apartment unlocked. As for Gerry saying it felt safe, and who would have thought about an abductor stealing your child, well perhaps that wouldn't enter your mind, but you sure as hell would think about all the other dangers associated with leaving 3 such young children on their own!!

Re: A Taster of the Piers Morgan Interview on CNN
whilst googling to see when this interview was definately going to be on I came across this ---
""Nobody I know says they would ever have left three kids aged under four on their own to go out with their mates at night on holiday. NOBODY."
in The Insider, a blog from Piers Morgan
http://gazetadigitalmadeleinecase.blogspot.com/2008/01/piers-morgan-attacks-mccann.html
wonder if he'll stand by that comment and repeat it in this interview?

Hi moroneyml03 welcome to the forum
Yes, it was posted when we heard about this interview coming up, and I doubt he will repeat it, not judging by that clip. Let's hope he surprises us.

Hi moroneyml03 and welcome
I don't think the McCann's would have agreed to an interview with him if he was going ask awkward questions...they get enough of that from that naughty Portuguese journalist Sandra "ask the dogs" Felgueiras

Any awkward questions and Kate would have come out of her 'poor little me' pose and started effing and blinding and smashing up the furniture!
(However Piers Morgan is a huge pompous twat, so no surprises that he'll be any different in this interview. The best thing that happened to him was getting a biff on the nose from Jeremy Clarkson)

Hi Maria
With all the lies and discrepancies that have already come to light the lawyers didn't do a very good job then
What was it Dr Amaral said the other day about the book being useful as documentary evidence?

Out of interest and FWIW, here is the take from 'lily' from JATYK on the Piers Morgan interview:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
QUOTE
Piers Morgan did a really good interview on CNN tonight. I must say I was very impressed with him.
Kate seemed a little nervous but Gerry was relaxed for most of the show. There were times when he gave a slight smile and other times when he looked anxious. I am mentioning this because I was reading MM before watching the show, where they stated that Gerry was smirking. Definitely not so. Have you ever watched someone on TV talking about something serious when they had a slight smile on their faces? I have. It can happen when people are on TV it's a kind of nervous reaction.
For any of them who may be talking about her makeup - the studio hair and make up people did a good job.
I think the title of the segment can be called 'Hope for Madeleine'.
The McCanns were asked if they believed 100% that Madeleine is alive. Kate responded that it was not 100% but she did say that it's wrong to give up. Regarding the abductor, they think that it could have been the person that Jane Tanner saw and that the Irish family gave an almost identical description.
Piers said that he had seen Kate beat herself up - he clearly has empathy for her.
When he mentioned the fireside critics, saying you should have done this, that and the other, Kate responded that they made mistakes but the crime is the person stealing the child.
They don't know how the abductor got in. People had keys - lots of people had stayed there before. The number of burglaries was mentioned. They feel that the first police to arrive didn't have a sense of urgency.
The topic of discrepancies came up. Piers mentioned that (hypothetically) you get an outside lawyer saying this doesn't add up but they say there are no major ones. The UK police told them that you get inconsistencies. No one's writing anything down at the time.
Piers talked about the mood changing with the PT police during the investigation. They responded in the most impossible way as far as the McCanns are concerned by making the arguidos. They mentioned the stories being leaked to the media and they started to sense the hostility. Which meant to them that no ongoing search strategy was happening and which the public was led to believe.
There was portrayal in the media that there there was evidence incriminating against them They talked about the 'deal' that was offered to them. Kate did state that it wasn't a plea deal as such but the bottom line is they were offered a non custodial sentence if they would confess.
Concerning the question of who took her, Gerry said he had been told to be open about who took her and why. He compartmentalizes the abduction so he can get on but for Kate it is different. She said that 2008 was her worst year, she was angry at God. In Portugal she wanted someone to say this is all wrong, they wanted someone to help them.
Piers cut to the chase and asked that for people watching the program how could people help them. The answer was to read the book, visit the website and lobby governments to do a review.
Piers did say on occasions that he couldn't imagine how it had been for them. He said that it has been a harrowing time and that he could not imagine what they are going through.
I apologize as I have missed a lot out and a lot of this and parts are paraphrased using my own words.
Another post I read on MM - connected to Hardlinemarxist blog, where the name Madeleine was mentioned and they discussed the lower case m to start the title in not too pleasant a manner. Can I just let them know, if they read here, that there is another book which has been out for years. It's a children's book called Madeleine. Maybe they can connect the dots as to why they couldn't do that.
Time for bed.

Re: A Taster of the Piers Morgan Interview on CNN
I'm watching the interview now and it seems so lame.... alll the same stuff we've already heard from them.
One thing which has perplexed me though... Kate (or might have been Gerry).. said that an Irish family gave a description of the alledged abductor which matched the description given by Jane Tanner...
if I remember rightly from reading The Truth Of The Lie online, the Irish family gave a description which matched Gerry - especially the way he was carrying the child... however this was never followed up further....
and Jane Tanners description changed on a number of occasions as we know!

Re: A Taster of the Piers Morgan Interview on CNN
Has anyone watched this??
Just wondered if I heard correctly when GM said the Smith sighting was 4 to 5 mins after JT saw the abductor. Anyone hear this, or did I mishear.
Matt has now been mentioned to do with the door ajar scenario. She wondered if Matt had left it further open. As we have been saying on the forums she had said not how we had left it.
She mentions the curtains were closed when she found Madeleine missing, and they whooshed with the draught and that's when she saw window open and blind up. (I thought they were open)
GM says inconsistencies to be expected The biggest he thought was when he did his check at 9.05pm and that he was adamant he was on one side of the road, and yet JT and Jez say they were on the other. He says police say this is normal that there would be inconsistencies.
KM say 2008 was my worst year.
asked about Madeleines eye defect, she says something like to be honest we haven't put too much emphais on the eye defect, you can hardly see it unless you are really close. GM says people have been saying it coloboma, but he says he doesn't think it's that.
When asked if she sleeps ok now, KM answers I'm sleeping fine now.
Disclaimer]
Just my notes from the interview done at speed. So may not be totally corrrect..

How can they have said in this interview that they don't know how the abductor got in?
when the shutter story didn't work they said they left the door unlocked so the children could get out if there was a fire. If there was an adbuctor, then clearly he/she came in thro the door and couldn't have believed their luck to find an unlocked door. This unlocked door would have perhaps made it practical to
kidnap Madeleine in the limited timeframe available (limited according to the McCanns and friends due to their checking ) as time was not spent picking the door lock.

Re: A Taster of the Piers Morgan Interview on CNN
Gerry also said that the eye defect was possibly, or probably NOT a coloboma, but just pigmentation.
Is that important?
Well yes. Because if it is a coloboma it might point to a range of other signs in a syndrome, Turners or whatever, that we went through years ago.
If not, and he is saying it was just pigmentation, then firstly her medical records would show it because it would have been investigaged at some point in her short life, and secondly it adds to the Disney version of her being the most wonderful, caring, "perfect" (though I shall not be able to use that word with equanimity for a long time, now it has been polluted by Kates sentence) little mini-adult.
Why were the medical records not available ?
